I think the tittle says everything :P

This forum has a lot of different people and I would like to know what do you all think about this outdated (for me) thought...

Playing video games is not a sign of immaturity. The immaturity comes in when it takes over you life.

Shirking responsibilities,

breaking promises,

ignoring real life friends,

wishing you were home playing video games instead of having quality time with family,

losing sleep,

skipping meals

spending the rent/grocery/bill money for upgrades so you can be more competitive in the games

quality of work or grades declining because you're more focused on the gaming world than the tasks at hand

you've become homebound or a recluse because of games, games games and more games

amnesia....forgetting where the "off" button is.

These are signs of an addiction right up there with alcohol and drug abuse. It controls you, you do not control it.

Gaming addiction has become so widespread, there's Gamers Anonymous with it's own 12-step program.

I think it starts with the immaturity to recognize the problem is budding so it can be snipped off before it blooms. Once it blooms, it becomes an uncontrollable vine that intertwines you and makes you a prisoner. Here's something to ponder: The digital matrix is the vine.

I play video games only for relaxation and stress relief for individual and specific games. Tanki Online is a stressful game SMH.

Wow, I never realized that someone was actually stupid enough to introduce this topic. Come on man, do you actually think that our Forum Admin is immature -_-?

He never specified the forum admin to be immature. If you think this topic is "stupid" in any way, at least try to be constructive with your criticism, rather than type a big angry comment that says "THIS TOPIC STINKY I NO LIKEY D:<". Really.

Like Katydid says, it only really becomes immature for a person to play video games if they prioritize it over everything else. Games are meant to entertain - nothing else, so no reason to think they are immature purely for being video games. It's when someone values temporary entertainment over social life and other important things that it becomes a problem.

Am I stupid enough then because I want to know what does the people think about this thought only?

*cough* At least it's better than being spamming around the forum with non-sense posts .-. *cough*

By the way, I said nothing about the admins, they were chosen correctly and I never said they are immature.

Admins play video games right? Check your title, read and read it again then come back and rewrite your statement.

And when I said that I agree with this thought? Besides the tittle, I explained my own thought is a word only.

Check it below due it looks like you are either blind or you are only looking for a place where to spam without knowing about the topic a bit deeper .-.

You re-read it.

There are players who will make nonsensical posts/comments just to get their post count up. Nothing was said about Amins/Mods or anyone else. OP just wants to know if the community thinks playing video games is immature.

Back on topic

The post I made previously (#2) describes a close friend. I'm not going to go into any detail here, I don't have her permission. Let's just say there were a lot of devastating real life events that happened in a short span of time. She went into a deep depression, turned to gaming as a cathartic, and never really came out of it. Actually, she needs Professional help so she can move on with her life. She refuses to get that help because she doesn't want to face those tragedies again. It's the same as turning to alcohol or drugs to "forget." Worse part of it is, she lives alone.

It's a shame to know that case. I hope that you or someone else helps her to take her life sense back. She clearly needs to get over the problems she had.

TSY, in many places Cedric has specified that he does NOT play Tanki, he says that after working all day the last thing he wants to see is a tank, and other things as well

Such as I expected ...

It's fine while it doesn't become into an addiction or something like that. I hope that people don't become addicted as well as they remove this kind of thought.

Playing game for more than 5-6 hours is an act of immaturity not before that B)

5-6 hours a day?!? Wish I had that kind of time. I come home from work, let the dogs out, take a shower, let the dogs in and feed them and fix my supper. After that, I have 4 hours to do whatever it is I'm going to do (including playing on the computer) then it's time for bed.

Saturday, I do my shopping and clean house. Sunday is the only day I have for just me.

At work, sometimes we'll have a 30 minute break while the machines are down for adjustments for other products, minor repairs, or whatever happens to a machine in the course of a day. It's during that time, I'll turn on my laptop and get some tanki in (battles and/or forums).

I don't think it has anything to do with time spent, as long as you meet all your responsibilities to yourself and family. We all need friends, so don't ignore them, either.

I read an article that stated (paraphrased): It's not the school system that's failing the students, it's the student's failing themselves. They spend too many hours on the computer doing non-academic activities instead of enriching their lives by reading, spending time in a library, going to museums, spending quality time with family, keeping up with current events nationally and internationally, planning for the future and working to achieve those goals, getting involved with the Community in which they live. Socialization (outside of the computer) is declining.

This article was very long and went into many aspects not covered by this OP's inquiry.

In short, think how life was before the advent of home computers. What did youngsters, teens and adults do then? How did they spend their time? Yes, there were games, but they were geared around real life socialization. Some families had game night every week that included the entire family and, at times, included friends and neighbors.

I need to get off my soap box before this becomes an off topic lecture.

Lol! Are you kidding me? Our current school system is as worst as it can get. They teach you nothing and bore you to death by their constant dead lectures. Students fail because of bad education system not games. Also, we go to school for 6-8 hours, isn't that enough time a day to study? Why should we study after scgool if we are paying them to teach us?

We are not robots, we are also humans. We spend almost 8 hours in school and 8 hours in sleep. That leaves 8 hours and we have life too we are not stupid robots.

Tis' why we homeschool...  :p

Seriously though, i am allowed 2 hours a week on computer games. I usually spend that time doing worthwhile stuff, like my Moderator Job at Chess.com (Yes, I am actually a Moderator, but I need a place where I don't have to speak diplomatically every second so I come here :p ) or Admining the Christian Homeschool Newspaper which has 3 writers and 2x more stuff than here xD   Both take up loads of time, but I find them worthwhile + its doing something with my time.

You reach Legend, with 1500 hours of playing time. OR you use those 1500 hours to master the violin. Which goes on your Resume? Your online 'friends' may gape and admire you, but what happens when you drift away from that game? What do you have to show for it? Even if you drift away from the violin, you still have that Grade 7 Certificate. And better eye-hand coordination.

Play for an hour or so a week. Thats fine. Play 10 hours a week? Get a life. Go outside.

I'm going to post a video here later when i get around to it. its worth watching.
