It will, they are only handed out by official contests (none have been held yet)

It's just alternate method to transfer contest rewards in players account.

Probably it's easy for staff to give promo codes to winners instead of sending items in their accounts.

 

Sometime promo codes are hidden in V-blogs so u advice u guys to take a closer look.

Promo codes might be received through official giveaways, as a reward in contests, hidden in the weekly VLOGs etc. If you want to get an idea of how a promo code works, you can see it here.

If they planned to buy a gold box or two (example), and they win a promo code, they can save the money that they planned to spend on those.

In this way, buyers were also getting advantage before promo codes update, because contest/giveaways were there. The only difference is that you get reward in form of promo code, previously Tanki were sending rewards directly to their accounts.

That would be really cool, but they would have to be rare though. Maybe as rare as Gold Boxes and/or Premium.
