Bootable Tanki Online Client like a Live CD

Recommended Posts

I have a great idea in my head for a client that forgets user login information when playing Tanki Online on public computers such as internet cafes.

My idea is to have a "bootable Tanki Online client that works like a live CD" environment where players burn an .ISO Tanki Online client to a USB or CD. The client will have its mini operating system that will load up and install in a RAM Drive. This mini operating system will only work in memory, so all login data to Tanki Online will be lost when the PC is restarted. This bootable Tanki Online live CD/USB client must have sound and display resolution drivers so that it automatically sets up the sound and the correct screen resolution according to the size of the monitor.

A RAM Drive is allocated computer RAM memory which stores data. When the PC is switches off or rebooted, all the information is permanentally lost.

The idea of having a "bootable Tanki Online client" is to make sure that players which plays Tanki Online on public computers don't have their Tanki Online account information stored on public computers and then other players can retrieve nicknames and passwords by logging in to those computers.

My priority is to further increase the level of security for every Tanki Online player by putting this amazing idea in the developers head about creating a bootable live client for Tanki Online.

Here is an example of a Live CD/USB environment: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiren's_BootCD

Thank you.

Declined

Players that are aware of how to use this, when to use it and why to use it, are usually so deep into the matter, that they can easily craft such a boot media by themselves. Even if you use such a boot media, you still do not know who sniffs the network your public computer is patched into, and catches your password this way.

On the other hand, keeping this boot media creation tool up to date all the time (drivers, tanki client - as you do not like to waste downlaod time at your public access, OS patches, ...) and to test all that stuff on various HW, requires a lot of time and test hardware.

Small gain for large costs.. therefore declined.

The players that play at public computer frequently are better off if they

1) link a valid and working email account to their tanki account, to get it back in case of theft. Have a good password on your email account too (not the same as your tanki password at least..)

2) opt to play only low-rank alt's when they are at some (usually time limited) public computer access. Those battles are fun too, and bystanders can participate a lot more in it, as the battle speed is moderate

Why don't you close the topic when it is declined?

Why don't you close the topic when it is declined?

To allow players to comment on the idea, discuss it and potentially improve it. On numerous occasions we actually changed the topic status to under review after players corrected us that we misunderstood the idea.

In this case you should close it. This topic is pointless.

We don't make exceptions and we don't decide what's pointless and what isn't. If you think it's pointless - ignore the topic and don't reply. It will be archived eventually (unlike valid ideas).

This topic is pointless.

..and therefore it was declined.

Still some of the "pointless and declined" ideas in the past inspired the readers to a very much better feature idea. And therefore this is done like that. Like if someone would read the given reason for the decline and get's insprired to offer another way to get back your account in case of theft, involving a smartphone (like 2factor authentication)..

A bootable media of a Tanki Online client does not need to be continuously updated every day. This bootable media needs to have a mini operating system, that is kept small and run from a RAM Drive. The client would be the same type of client we already have but it will store the nickname and password in the RAM Drive. Once the computer is turned off or rebooted, the RAM Drive and its stored information will be lost.

The developers can accept my idea on making this simple bootable media which consists of only a desktop mini operating system which is very small and the game client. That is all what's needed. Of course, there can be the addition of a mini web browser, just for browsing.

You go online with that thing, so you need the security updates. So you need to update it at least once a month.

And each time Tanki run's an update of their game, they need to update the client as well.

In the end you would have to do this about 20 times a year at least.

Yes. Good idea. Please folks try your best to improve my idea so that developers will change their mind and post this topic in the under review section. For this to work, you must come up with bright ideas that will be something that will work properly in Tanki Online according to the dynamics of the game.

Just take some good thoughts and list them down here on this topic. You folks can help each other to put bright ideas together and make them work for Tanki Online.

You can correct the idea and show that the developers misunderstood it. Also keep yourselves on the topic and don't go off topic.

You have many options of how to start up Tanki through the browser and client and I know for a fact that barely anyone would bother getting a CD to start playing Tanki

There is nothing wrong on using a CD or USB flash drive to boot up to a mini bootable operating system with a small web browser and a Tanki Online client.

Since this bootable media would have a file size of 5 to 10 megabytes, it will boot up extremely quickly. When players load up and run Tanki Online, they will find out that the game runs faster because it operates from a RAM drive, and will also reduce critical errors and lags.

Please consider my idea as a valid one.

Ummm... Moderators keep this idea declined. Thanks... Tankers are happy about the way the game starts up. They may not have space in their USB slot to plug it in. Also, there could be side effects such as lags or bugs that can occur. Players can start the game through the browser and the client. They are more satisfied that way so your idea will stay declined I guess  ;) .
