small minority of pure EN servers (same language)

Recommended Posts

I dunno guys. I'm sure there were logistical reasons for pushing all the different servers in together.  But I have to say, on the one hand while it pushes everyone in together, so you get to play against a larger variety of players, its rather irritating when you can't talk to 1/2 the team because no one has a common language.   Might I suggest you still need some english/russian/other servers even if its just a minority 1 or 2 to help the linguistically impaired along a bit.

Love Aunty

Well it could help to have a single EN server to start with, and check how populated it will become over time. This is far from returning to the old status of enough server space for split communities.

In order to estimate the population, we could look back to the past years of experience with the DE and PL communities: there we saw, that those servers were not very well populated with mid-to-high rank players.. but the EN community (in this game) is maybe 10 times bigger then the German one. Could work and could improve the situation.

on a sidenote:

Actually matchmaking could solve that issue for you with the wink of a finger. A very short time ago Tanki introduced a setting in the in-games settings page, that allows you to set your country.

This is imho a perfect preset for a few features (like showing a country flag above a tank) and it could especially be used to match players of the same language into the same battle.

Hmm.. and after writing this: would you like to rephrase your idea to propose that countrylanguage-specific matchmaking, or do you like to stick with the server based idea?

Option 1 - You can hire a translator to come to your house.

Option 2 - Talk less, play more.

Option 3 - Use google translator knowing the fact you won't understand them if they reply back.

Option 4 - Don't play Tanki if you find the game irritating.

Interesting idea. It could actually work and make communication with others easier for players who don't speak russian but I think these players are actually a minority right now and the number of non-russian speaking users seems rather low. I guess implementing this would improve the gaming experience for some of us, but I wouldn't say it's a necessity.

This is a good reason for me to change my location to North Korea and leave it like that...

I don't know that they are mutually exclusive.   However... I guess it depends on which way you look at it.  I was also considering that a language specific would help cover both bases in one go.  Battle is more likely to mono-lingual, or at least able to match on one language, and chat itself would also be more likely to be one language also. Although imho the chat side of life seems to have died off.

I think I'll stick with the server side system for the moment. BUT perhaps as a seperate idea, use language as a matching term for matching system.

Option 5 - Give your team mates the middle finger and do what you have to do

Option 1 - to expensive, unless you're volunteering?

Option 2 - sometimes you just need people to get with the plan.

Option 3 - babel doesn't translate cyrillic...

Option 4 - The game has been great, but like everything is has its irritating points. Otherwise there'd be no ideas :)

Option 5 - Aunty does that frequently, but it doesn't improve team play much :(

To me it looks like most Russian players usually use the same Russian words to communicate with players of different language. After a while they start to look familiar, and you can tell what they mean. For example, something that looks like "npbet" means hi. If you don't understand them, sometimes they try to communicate differently

They will probably understand basic "tanki English" too in the same way.

It should be by language, not country. The flags from the main page could be used for the matchmaking. Simple.

The more important part was language no country... so yup run with that theory.

The players I see, and to be honest they may not be russian, but its some cyrillic variant.  Can't get a word out in english, but know enough to get cranky if you start tearing strips off them.   The most common words I see, are MNP, which used to be a error correction/compression protocol my dialup modem (who remembers those) used to do, and CNC which is a computer controlled wood working device :P

Other option would be to have some kind of list of these words and some approximate meaning somewhere, but I can't get any answers about what they mean.

It took me a while to figure out what you mean, as I was talking about "language" anyways. Finally I noticed that I used the word "country" in the last line, and this is maybe what you are talking about.

Well, we are on the same page; for sure it should match players by their language.

I'll edit the post above

I will send you a link to a list of the common words and their meanings in PM to not go off topic
