In the US people usually pronounce Aunt like Ant. I don't know why and it seems odd to me.

aunty only used in India.... ok  ;)

you mean aunties of Indian origin....  B)

no, I mean Auntys :P, but you are incorrect...we have all sorts Aunties.... like licorice...

Around since the late 13th century, the first recording of “aunt” is found in Robert of Gloucester’s Chronicle (1297) where he wrote, “Sir Gui de Mountfort, that was . . his aunte sone.”

I'd be happy to be 40 again :?  But it depends on your parents how old your Aunty is going to be... not your Aunty we don't have to be old.

Well Aunty is a Daryl... no indian in there at all.  I'm 47, and the boys used to play Tanki, but have given it away... they still have a go occasionally but that's it. And no, I won't identify them.

You don't think Aunty is one of the things you picked up from the British? Like us....

Aunty

aunt is used by british.... becomes aunty in India.... but british using aunty is not expected.... because aunty is kinda desi word.... which gives me the view of aunty is that typical Indian woman dressed in saree.....or salwar kameez  :)

btw have u ever tried saree.... ?

Ahh no never worn a saree, used to be a jeans gal.  But since back surgery the only thing I've successfully worn is a parieu. Which is Cook Island for a sarong.

Aunt and Aunty aren't quite exactly the same thing here......eg:

This is my Aunt Jenna, is fairly normal, in their presence...

My Aunty went on a holiday and all I got was this T-shirt,  when not in their presence...

So Aunt is more formal than Aunty. But that's probably just a question of semantics. And of course there is the flip side, perhaps we got it from the British via India.

You didn't read the message did you... :P  The parieu is a SARONG! No idea where you might find a saree here... Some of us a britishers but like the aforementioned message, its like licorice allsorts here.  Ahh I had spinal surgery 7 years or so ago now, and no its never been the same. I'm as good as I get, but you just have to make the most of what you've got.
