maybe they are  wating for the right moment to activate overdrive

I activate it only when going for the flag and I only go for flag when overdrive is on 100 %

Pffffft. People save it for gold boxes.  -_-

Yeah, during the battle no one knows how to use it but under a gold, everyone learns pretty fast.

On the other hand though,

I don't press shift if some noob keeps pushing me and tells me to use overdrive because one; I like to save my overdrive for multiple tanks and two; I can't freaking move towards more tanks if someone mults around! A lot of players don't seem to get that I just want to go to the base where a lot of other tanks spawn and they just block me or push me against a wall. Trust me, I tell them every single time... and then I start to see the age difference when they type all sorts of rubbish.

If you're an Isida people expect you to use overdrive for them all the time.

You bring up a good point, which I haven't even thought of yet.

They are noobs, most of them are low rankers. I am tired of saying in chat that use overdrive plzz plzz..... but they don't listen.

3-4 months is probably an overestimate. I think in 2 weeks there will be very few players who don't use it.

And don't forget about the players who don't have any supplies, since I think you need at least 1 of each supply to be able to use the overdrive (not sure though).

I suppose at Colonel+ there might be some tankers without one of each ( ) but...

This about those with the big white star that means OverDrive is ready to go... I'd be shocked if that shows up and they can't actually use it.

When our team is struggling and at least 1/3 of the team has the big white star, but does not activate - I begin to question - what are they saving it for?  It's there to be used.  You keep saving it and die, never activating it - what's the point?

All the while the other team seems to activate all the time.

And when I tell them to use it it's mostly silence. Or a response in another language.  Team games where you can't communicate - another mistake was going to one common set of servers regardless of language.

Which is useless for low ranks as one GB per 2 battles, while you can have 3-5 overdrive per battles.

Also in the melee there is always one of your teammate using it, so you can benefit from it for free :)

but still you never know when the gold will fall, and it need not be that you will be around your teammate when he uses his overdrive. Not supporting the idea of saving it for golds, just saying what people think of it.

Actually I was wrong about the supplies. The Overdrive does not use any of your own supplies, not even mines. So not having enough supplies would not stop one from activating it.

However, some players may still think that it uses your supplies, so if they don't have a lot of them, they may want to intentionally not use the overdrive so that it doesn't waste their supplies. So that false assumption may be the reason why some don't use it.

ikr.

2 just drop within the first 2 minutes of the game, I got one and nearly got the second one.

The best chance to get them is to jump on top of everybody else (and if you can, lay a mine before on the drop zone - got 2 like that).

I've no idea sir, I run towards the base and notify everyone with ''I got 100''

Mostly 3 or 4 tanks drive towards me, I think they recognize the 100 regardless of the language barriers.

EDIT: I suppose whether to wait and share the overdrive or just activite it yourself has to do with how far you're from the base and if you're in an emergency or not.

The overdrive feature has been out just a few days, maybe give it some time. I believe players will eventually learn when to use it or not. Maybe the mult pushers will go away too but that's a different story.

Yeah, I agree.

I rarely use my overdrive just because there are teammates around me. usually i reserve it for isidas or people who are going to get the flag or points. I mean there's no point helping those campers, they'd just spawn right where they already are, at our base! many a time they shoot at me and say"press shift noob!" i just tell those welfare cases to piss off. besides, druging is for the weak. I automatically give my 100% to those who contribute the most to the team, but those who bother to ask me to activate my overdrive for them are  welfare cases looking for benefits as well as noobs who can't fight without drugs.

I usually don't have many or any supplies, but am still able to use OD.

At most times, I'll use it on team mates who are low on health and don't have a star. If I see Wasps without a star, I'll use it on them. When there are a couple of us with long range weapons helping out team mates or keeping control of our base, I'll share my star with the other player. But if he doesn't reciprocate or just uses it on himself without sharing, then I won't use it on him again, even if he begs.

How long does OD last? Seems like it's only 10-15 seconds. Or is it another case of Tempus Fugit (time flies) .

Ahh yes the A;;-Star Noob Team effect. It is amazing how many tanks run around forever with stars floating over their heads. This is the only good feature to the Overdrive concept. When you see a lot of stars remain you know you are on a crap team and you can lave. When I am drivingmy Isida, I know whom to heal.

its strange how nobody found the right answer yet

most players save it for the gold box, and then use right before the end of the match if gold doesn't drop

I think you might be right about eh gold boxes. I cannot believe that after two trial runs and all the stars and blue dome graphics that players with hundreds of thousands to millions of exp points are unaware the OD system is in the game.

Most players are clueless, that's why.

So if DontBeGreedy is right then Lightning78 must be wrong.  But that is not true. They are both (probably) right. Most players save for GB use and most players are clueless. Saving for a GB drop is bad tactics. Bad decisions are what I expect from most Tanki players. Seriously I have never playered an established game with so many long time players that are still stuck with such rudimentary misunderstandings of their own game.. OD is just the latest example.

You know, after playing for a while I realised that the claims that many players don't know how to use may not be all true. When I was playing I didn't activate Overdrive as soon as it became available - I waited for a good opportunity, since it's such a rare resource. I also didn't activate it when there was just one player next to me clearly wanting me to do it. It just wasn't worth it. So sometimes I'd wait for 2-3 minutes before using it at the right time. Some players also prefer to keep it to use only when a gold box drops, which is a rather selfish, but nonetheless sensible tactic.

So with that in mind, it seems that most players complaining about others not using overdrive are just not looking at the whole picture and aren't considering the position of the player who has an overdrive. And the amount of players who actually don't know how to use it is minimal.

Well, when your team is losing half-way through the battle, and half the team is running around with the white star, there's a problem.

The "device" is no good if you keep saving it for the "perfect" opportunity.  Use it - perform - you will get it again.  Maybe your team will benefit.

I disagree. There's a very specific strategy for the Overdrive. In DM it's pretty simple - you first use supplies and you activate overdrive when the supplies start to wear off. In TDM and CP it's a bit more complicated - it's best to use Overdrive next to at least two other teammates who are low on health and their supplies are running out.

But in CTF the overdrive is an extremely powerful weapon for capturing the flag, especially since it's nearly impossible to attack, steal the flag and get back to base before your supplies run out (i.e. in 30 seconds). The ideal use of overdrive is when you see your teammate running away with the flag, so you drive up to them, use the overdrive to give them a boost and follow them back to base. If you used your overdrive and didn't save it for the right moment, the chance of capturing will be much lower.

I wasn't suggesting just enabling OD for the sake of enabling it. Of course it's much better to use when near multiple team-mates.

But I saw instances where a group of enemies swarming our flag area - multiple defenders - and nobody triggering it.

I've been in games where our team lost - as the battle ended - half the team had the white star. There's no excuse for that.

And if someone is saving that OD for a gold-box drop - I shake my head at the selfishness.  It's a TEAM battle. Go play DM if you are not willing to help out the team.
