Let's discuss Matchmaking map changes!

On the other hand, the dumbest thing Tanki has done in more than a year was to change the repair boxes so the cycle is interrupted with any kind of hit.  That means "continuous fire" weapons like Isida, Firebird, Freeze and to a slightly lesser extent Vulcan now have a HUGE advantage over other turrets.

Tanki - how could you be so stupid?

(Actually, I didn't think Tanki could be MORE stupid than their elimination of pro games for missions - but they surprised me.  Apparently there's no limit to the depths of Tanki foolishness.)

I sometimes wonder if the developers get together in a room and say, "What is the coolest thing we can do and what is the absolute dumbest?  Then they vote and pick both the coolest (like Magnum) and the dumbest (like the change to the repair boxes).

Instead of screwing around with old maps - why not add some new ones?

I wonder what 90% of your post has to do with the topic. TBH people complaining about the repair kit are the foolish ones. But whatever.

Adding new maps is not the goal - it is both resource intensive and not particularly rewarding in the long run. Just look at Deck-9, Magadan, and Canyon, which were added just a few months ago. Few players play them. You can find some battles on Deck-9, mostly parkour battles on Canyon (and even those are hard to find), but I've yet to see Magadan anywhere. Even though these are old maps that took less time to develop than making a new map from scratch, they show that there is limited benefit to adding new maps, especially given there are already plenty that are not played, and many maps in general.

The old maps are being changed for balance. Have you even seen any of these changes? They consist mainly of adding dedicated spawning areas that reduce spawn camping. May I ask how this is "screwing around?" Most of these changes will change gameplay for the better, and were created specifically with the upcoming matchmaker in mind, in an effort to make those kind of battles fairer (whether matchmaker battles will actually be fair or not is another question). And in my opinion, due to the addition of Magnum, many more maps need further tweaking (such as Noise).

Was the test server open?

Yes but it's closed now. But don't worry these map changes and the Match Making will be live on the servers for a few days for testing in the next week or so.

I think you are both on to something. I would also like to see new maps, and I agree that plenty of existing maps are not good and are not used.

IMO - those two are not exclusive statements. The existence of crappy maps (Magadan) does not mean no new ones should be added. Adding new maps is fine, assuming they are interesting enough to garner play. But I'm also good with making improvements to existing maps in service of increasing their popularity.

BTW I like Canyon but it does require three dimensional thinking.

That is not what I mean. I mean that the effort put into developing new maps is not really worth the effort for the developers. While we as players may want more maps (I certainly do), the impact their addition would have on the game would be moderate and best and they don't generate revenue, as do some other features (not that this is a good thing for the players).

Solimansk is odd now. And that barrier on the north-south corridor kind of nerfs long-range weapons.

They have ruined Brest by getting rid of that "back door" section.  capping flags is much, much harder with no "sneak attacks".

I agree on the Solikamsk, though you can still snipe base-to-base easily.

It was kinda annoying when everyone would just show up from that area and you had to waste mines there so no one would take the flag - I guess that's why they did it.

Since this last update, I've noticed changes in some of the maps.

What changes have you noticed?

1...Brest CP no longer has a cp inside the buildings.

2...Year 2042 Tunnel going under the building on the right (looking from Red team) is gone. The RK is still there, though, but on the ground.

There has been discussion about the map changes with screenshots here: http://en.tankiforum.com/index.php?showtopic=360726

Yeah, people had the element of suprise and defenders had to poop mines all over the place. Now it's a shooting pit for Magnum users and the strategic element is gone.

I just played in Tribute and they made that map amazing <3

Polygon is also REALLY good.

Brest, I dont really know...

Industrial Zone? Unbelievable. They changed the whole format there by removing the tunnel on the right side. There's also newer platforms in Red base...

Forest has new extensions which will surely pay off big for XP/BP or format players.

Rest are very intriguing - I'll surely play on those whenever I get the chance.

I think the reason the devs did that is to remove sneak element, not the strategic element. More strategy was required to get the flag from the forward or the right/left sides, the open back side was just a shortcut to surprise the defenders and leave.

More strategy?  nah... it like running a gauntlet.

If you can get to that back area you deserve to wreak some havoc.  How do you think flags are stolen?  The distraction allows the flag-runner to come in and steal the flag. Team-work and strategy.

There will be fewer flag caps in Brest because of this.

Preliminary re-creation of the new Polygon:

Ironically I find that with the removal of some camping areas others are created. Consider this area for example:

A Magnum on red team can just sit here and lob shells into blue spawn points all day. This exploit is probably not restricted to Magnum players.
