HTML 5 testing is live in the Test/Main servers!

Bare strict ban'te hein tanki devs. Invite codes are only given to testers, not even mods and admins blah bla bla... Testers kya koi normal players nhi hote? Koi martian specie hoti he kya?

Testers work closely with Developers, they are chosen on a very strict basis and having the knowledge of Russian is a must because of communication issues. Testers are responsible for testing out stuff on test servers before an update is released on the main servers so that things do not go wrong during the stress test on main servers.

So far an interesting experience. Apart from the obvious formatting differences, HTML5 version is less optimized. In TO client I get 60 FPS max graphics, in HTML5 less than 30 FPS on max graphics. Perhaps some of this is because of lag and because it's a browser. Another difference: the garage.

Here's the TO garage, max graphics. It looks quite aliased (jagged edges).

Here's the HTML5 garage:

No aliasing! This is definitely an improvement.

Apparently decimals are not recognized.

Overdrive icon is slightly different.

Probably the biggest difference is in the physics/camera movement. The camera moves much faster, and gravity seems to be higher. I can't exactly identify what feels different about driving, but it I think the acceleration is greater. In TO it feels like you are driving "bricks on ice" (to quote developers), in HTML5 it feels like you are watching a video that is sped up 2x, jerky movement and all, yet the speed is the same.

The sound is really messed up. It sounds muffled and hollow, as though there's a low pass filter applied over everything. Turret rotation sound is too loud. When multiple sounds play at once they clip.

I've noticed that the first time I spawn into a battle, I can't do damage until I self-destruct.

In short it is both impressive and promising that HTML5 is up and running, but there are still many rough edges to be polished.

Just tested HTML 5 in Test server

HTML 5 works fine in chrome/chrome-based browsers & equally sucks in Firefox/FF-based browsers. May be because of server load, it took long time to load a battle, overall, it looks interesting. But I feel it require more than 2 Mb/s upload speed for better game-play.

I wish TO bring out HTML 5 form open mass testing like they did for Match Making System.

Just tested it, overall its almost ready but there is still a lot of finishing touches to go.

Noticeable changes:

This might be your teams color now, instead of green and yellow its red and blue like spectators have.

Supplies that you use by pressing keys don't have a dark background, instead they are clear as if you pickup up a drop box.

Score board is a bit glitchy and appears all of the screen lol

Overall

There was also a lot of static in the sounds, I know it wasn't my sound system. The tanks also feel 'real' now and the physics engine is slightly different.

Should i download the client ?

You can try it and compare by yourself. Then keep the one that is must convenient for you (you can always go back to the browser anytime). You will have to do the comparison again when HTML5 is on track. The data load when required, so the first time you load a map it will take the same time as with the browser, but when you go to that map again it will be much faster (as map data are already loaded on your PC). Don't forget to reset the keys on the parameter of the client if you changed some of the game control key.

However the client has some inconveniences:

* You can't past battle link, you would have to do it on the chat (not authorized if it's a TO event), better to do it from your clan chat (if you have one) or get invited.

* when kick out of a battle you can't join the battle back, system has lost all your details. Maybe it took me too long or the error system message took longer to activate, longer than in the browser so it's already too late.

* the sky box, when untick is bright white (not grey like in the browser).

* don't create new account with the client, that block the client on this account, you will have to reinstall it.

* once in the battle you can't copy the battle link so you can't report hack and violation.

* you can't zoom in or out the lobby window.

Test server is open again, here are some observations:

  • A lot of the formatting issues have been fixed, text doesn't stick out of boxes anymore (for the most part, mission text still does). The scoreboard now displays K/D correctly.
  • HTML5 is now more optimized. I can run the game at 60 FPS now, albeit at rather low settings (shadow under tank and fog are the only things on). It still isn't as well optimized as Flash version yet.
  • Physics is much better, very close to the Flash version. A welcome improvement.
  • Sound is still bad, but it doesn't clip anymore.
  • I no longer have the bug where when you spawn you can't do damage.
  • When I self-destruct, I lose a kill, but my tank's death shows up on the scoreboard only after about 10-15 seconds.
  • When in the garage, your tank does not have a shadow (this problem was present in the previous test as well).
  • Some visual changes: the flag in CTF floats above the base, and by floats I mean it actually floats, bobbing up and down. The lines extending from a capture point to a tank are thinner. These things will probably change.
  • You can't press G key to access garage like in Flash version, but this is a relatively new update so not surprising.

Also, you can enable/disable Overdrives in PRO battles. Someone suggested these kind of "overdrive only" battles where overdrive is enabled and supplies are disabled, and having tried it I can say it's not a good idea. The positive feedback loop is ridiculous. Whichever team has ovedrive enabled at the moment dominates until the other team has their overdrive enabled. Nevertheless, it's good to have more PRO battle options (it is so nice to be able to turn Overdrive off).

In short, this test is a big improvement over the previous one. It's actually fun to play!

So far it's okay.but

  • The fps is really low
  • The tank in the garage looks like it's floating (Viper Monster's UFO has come to life  )
  • Physics are quite bad (turrets feel life they have no recoil and impact force at all)
  • The Font is ugly
  • The loading times are very high
  • The graphics have no shadows, lighting or whatsoever. Looks very bland
  • Sudden self destructing
  • Ping is also high

I know it's still in beta testing but for me so far those were the issues I had. Another thing is it is unplayable in Firefox/Waterfox. The screen was pitch black in it. Only worked from Chrome

The HTML 5 hasn't even reached Beta testing yet... Also, it's the Test Server, so everything is acting like a placeholder; like of course that won't be the official font.

Refrain from using profane abbreviations!

Check your graphics settings, they have options for lighting and shadows, but FPS is very low. Ping is high because it's test server. Interesting, loading times were pretty quick for me, and physics seem very similar to the Flash version. Have yet to encounter random self-destruct.
