From about mid-2018 up until this point, there has been a huge influx of new paints. We probably had around ~100 paints, with about 20 being special and unobtainable except through some means, like becoming a helper, winning an eSports or Parkour tournament, or getting lucky in a container. But now, we're hitting around 300 paints. I feel like right now, we're all being flooded with tons of paints in game. Special event? New paint. Celebrations? New paints. Special Missions? New paint. New Challenges? A baker's dozen of new paints.

This leads to several issues:

1. Diversion of resources. Yes, developers and game artists would like to have a new look for skins, but when they're scrambling to make a dozen paints per month, when are they going to get the time to work on the more important projects? Creating more paints requires work, and that work that could be used to make skins for hulls and turrets or giving people a better UI for HTML5 is being used to generate more paints for Challenges.

2. Loss of value. Firstly, those that were once known as rare now have little value on the battlefield. For example, being in MM with a Helper/eSports/Parkour paint that you earned doesn't turn heads anymore. There are plenty of impersonation paints out there (cases in point) and in addition to that, there are some animated paints that distract us from the real value of some hard-earned paints. Additionally, new paints have no value either. Many of the old paints have a description, a story behind the creation of the paint, which gives it its own backstory and an incentive to wear it. But now there are dozens of paints with the typical "this is a paint that is an aesthetic coating to your tank..." description, and that doesn't really seem to instill any sense of value in the paint.

3. Loss of originality. Though many of the helper and award impersonation paints were not created with an intent to copy the paint, there are some paints which I feel like are very similar in nature. I fear that the team that is in charge of paints is running out of ideas, which will affect what I said in the first point. As developers need to spend more time coming up with original paints, they will end up with less time to advance the game.

Spoiler

Take, for instance, Nano and Ecofriendly. These two look very similar, except that the hexagons are a different size and color.

Another example: Surf and Badger Badger. Color schemes are very similar, patterns are very similar on a tank.

Paint Surf.pngPaint Badger-badger.png

There are various other examples, but these are just a few that I know of.

4. Lack of realism. When I started playing a few years back, I used to own Green, Holiday, and White for camouflage purposes to take the flag unnoticed. Now, when I enter the battle, there are tanks wearing so many different colors: pink, purple, blue, red, orange, basically any color you name, it's there on the battlefield. It's not realistic like the darker/camo colors of the older times, which I feel is another issue. The game no longer resembles a tank game when the majority of players are flying rainbows, not driving tanks in camo.

These are the issues with so many paints, but I feel that they are solvable.

Here's what I propose:

- New paints should only be added with an important and valid reason. For example, a paint can be created to commemorate Tanki's birthday, but not to fill up some open slots in challenges. This reduces the amount of paints added to games, which I feel will increase the value of paints.

- Supply garage/shop paints in challenges. Over time, that would mean more and more people would come to own the paint, so one could also substitute it with the alternative reward of a set amount of crystals or a container for those who have already obtained the paint (or even a paint container, which allows a player to obtain a random paint ?).

- Find a way to reduce the number of extraneous paints. While it could just be kept here with tons of extra paints, I feel like players might like it if they were allowed to trade in their paints for crystals or had their dozens of challenge paints removed at a value, for instance, 20k crystals per paint. (This only applies to regular challenge paints)

While the last idea might be less valid than the first two, please consider my suggestion. I feel that paints are starting to lose their value among the players. I hope that the solutions provided above might be helpful for both developers and players. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Under Review

I do agree that there are far too many paints in the game and many of them do resemble others too closely, especially special paints. Having a paint that looks like a special paint makes it lose its originality. Not only this, a lot of the paints you can pull out of a container also look very similar to each other as you correctly pointed out. The only trouble is, if new paints are not brought into the game, players could lose interest and get bored by playing with the same few paints over and over. Certain challenge tier rewards would also need to be reworked if there will be no new paints in the battle pass.

Disagree. Paints are significantly easier to create than something like skins, and selling them is an easy way to make money. More paints give players more customization options. I really don't think it matters if a paint is "rare" or has "value" if it looks ugly. Case in point: Spectator paint.

Same. I like to see new paints, and they are a good reward siurce of challanges. Tanki can't put the same paints again and we need some new paints. Maybe, helper and award paints should be animated, or have a better design somehow to be more valuable.

I agree with the OP and the suggestions given. In fact, the value of non-animated paints that aren't popular (only a few like Spark, Emerald, Zeus... actually are popular) can be further increased by having special missions like "earn 10,000 battle points while wearing a camouflage paint (green, forest, marine, urban, ... basically anything that's not a flashing rainbow)". The holiday paint would always be designed so that players that don't have any paints of the required type, and don't intend to buy any, can wear it to do the said missions.

There are literally over 300 paints in the game and most players own already an enormous amount of paints. Why do we "need some new paints"? Go to your garage and select one of the other paints you have to play with, or pick a paint you normally don't use.

I only do challenges for the final reward, containers and supplies; I do not even care about the paints, they are the last things I need

Lack of realism.

We have Ares shooting electric peas and Hopper jumping around like a rabbit on coke, and some rainbow paints ruin the realism for you. Ok.

Working on a couple on cheap paints each challenge is probabily pretty cheap and it gives the devs some "content" to fill the slots, now that there are no more 2010 skins to put at the end of a challenge.

The fact that we have like 3000 useless paints clogging up the garage bothers me as well, but I'm pretty sure the Devs don't care one bit about it.

I believe you missed this line.

Paints had value before tanki added wall hacks to everyone. I used the rusted green paint or orange.

Old paints were believable to be seen. Yes a tank with white hearts don't look realistic but it looked like it fitted on the tank.

When I got the zombie paint, even tho it was ugly, it felt special. I got Mr smiley paint which is almost purely yellow when there were no other yellow paints in game it felt special and unique. Now I just use emerald cause one of the most common paints in the past are now one of rarest paints in game.

Also, pink is used as camouflage in desert.

haha, okay, a suggestion to players... soon paints will gain value so collect as many as possible with quick. XD

Nah, not gonna happen. Devs keep repeating over and over again that after the 2012 Rebalance fiasco, there will never ever be any more crystal refunds for in-game items. And especially not for paints, which most people earned for free in the first place.

Can we have a competition(if it hasn't already taken place) to write descriptions for such paints which have this generic description?

I don't remember which livestream video, but the devs said that creating a paint takes only 5 minutes or so, and that these are released to distract us from new major updates?
