Subscription pools for daily missions

Recommended Posts

We all know one of the reasons for having missions is to get more players playing things together for longer, rather than splintering away into little groups that don't mix so much. But there are also different reasons for players to want to do missions.

1 - The players that do missions, just because they want to try and complete 3 missions a day.

2 - The ones that do 1 a day just to get the 7 day bonus

3 - The odd mission doer that gets them done if they happen to work out in regular combat

4 - Those that ignore missions altogether.

I wonder... if missions couldn't be broken up into groups, based on difficulty real or perceived, to manage a few things.  Obviously the easier missions will have the lower rewards, and the harder missions better rewards, which is much as it is now.  But it would leave the door open, for players that don't really like missions, or find them exceedingly difficult a way to feel they can get on top of missions, while those that know all the "lurks" can have the harder missions for extra benefits.

I'm thinking probably a subscription to pools of different missions, say easy, normal, hard.  The further up the chain you subscribe, the bigger the over all mission pool, because if you choose the hard ones, you'd still get missions from the easy and normal mission pool as well.

So I guess to sum up...

1 - Easy missions for less reward.

2 - missions assigned by difficulty

3 - Easier for the less mission inclined to have a go.

What do you mean by "subscription?" Will players pay crystals to get a certain type of missions and then pay more crystals to change to a different type of missions? At the moment we already get a range of missions, so depending on the type of player you are, you can choose to complete all 3 or just one, change the easy one to a difficult one or vice versa, etc.

I just don't think your idea will improve anything.

I think he means that you can choose between being more likely to recieve easy, medium or hard missions. Choose Easy if you are just after the streak or don't usually bother to get your missions, hard if you are after big rewards, and medium for something in between.

So it would have to be a paid system then, because it makes it more convenient. We pretty much already have it at the moment: you can pay crystals to change missions you don't like, and it works just like the subscription - by changing missions, say, 4 times, you have a pretty high chance of ending up with the mission types you prefer and you pay some amount for that. Therefore I don't think a whole separate system with a similar purpose is necessary.

No not paid, sorry if that was confusing. Subscribe in the sense that this is the group you belong too.  I think TakeAShower  has the gist of it.  Its more horses for courses..  If you don't really like doing missions or they're just too hard, you join the easy mission group.  If current set isn't to bad, join the normal mission group, which still includes all the easy missions as well.  And for EXTRA layers of difficulty join the hard group, which would have the weird and wonderful like cap 3 flags without killing anyone, come first on CTF without capping any flags.   In some ways you're right its a bit like re-inventing the wheel, but I think with MM coming, the idea will become more valid.  You'll consistently get a set of missions you're more likely to try, although there would still be missions in any given group you don't like so the change mission button is still appropriate.

I haven't been terribly clear in getting my point across, it seems a little difficult for me. However I think its worth

considering.. whether it goes somewhere or not.

In essence allowing players to decide (bad move that) how capable they are at doing missions, and choosing a group accordingly.

Pool Example

Easy mission pool would contain things like (this is example only)

-   Collect supply boxes

-   Earn 50 Crystals

-   Earn 150 xp

-   cap 1 flag

-   capture capture points.

Normal mission pool

-   Come first

-   cap 3 flags

-   Earn 500xp

-  Collect a Gold Box

Hard (the weird and wonderful)

-  Cap 3 flags while registering no kills

-  Come first on CTF with no flag captures

-  Collect 3 gold boxes

Well, that's where Tanki makes their revenue in that sense. You get one free mission change per day that you can use to get rid of a mission you really don't want to do, but if you want to tailor the mission set to fit your needs exactly, you're going to have to pay to change the missions you like. Seems pretty fair to me - you buy convenience for money (crystals).

Shrug. Its not about being able to get exactly what you want, you might still get battle types you don't want, some don't like earning x crystal, some don't like collecting boxes, maybe you hate DM, but you'd still get whatever came around.  So from that side, I think being able to change 1 is still fair.  Thinking about MM though and given the chain rewards, I was happy to turn over 4-5 missions till I got something I could get done.  Going forward, I wouldn't bother I'd just stop doing missions altogether.  I see this as a way of keeping more people doing missions.  A bit bigger picture than just being able to select mission types alone per se.  Alternately take away the free mission change if you're on this system, the likelihood of needing to swap is less so fairs fair I guess.

So I guess where we're at is..

easy normal hard extra-hard pools of missions - arranged by level of difficulty

players may select mission difficulty levels to suit.

you lose the use of the free mission swap, but can still pay for extra changes.

I think it has some pros, not 100% sure if its enough to worry about right now, but as mentioned earlier to go with MM in future, I think it has definite merit.  I don't see any real cons, unless you think people are going to somehow rort easy missions, but I don't see that as an issue because you get less reward for them anyway.

Thinking about it, the extra hard level missions could make a space for some of the strange ideas floating in the ideas for mission forum :)

You now get 3 levels of mission difficulty every day - easy, medium and hard. You can do just the easy missions and a couple mediums, and you get a decent weekly reward. By doing all the missions you get a really good weekly reward.
