For many Tandems bring moments of uneasiness and for some it means euphoria but no matter what, by the time you finish reading this guide, you will have on your fingertips the secrets to becoming one of the best Tandem players in the Tanki Universe!

In layman’s terms, tandem means a group of two. And in Tanki, a tandem battle is when two teams with two players fight against each other.

There is more than one facet to Tandems. First of all, it teaches you to think on your feet and to be resilient during rough circumstances. Furthermore, it prepares you to have a competitive yet healthy approach which is desirable in every instance of life.

So without much further ado, let’s get started!

1. Choosing your team

The chemistry between your teammate and you is the key to victory in tandem battles, therefore it is important to be wise when choosing your teammate.

:excl: NOTE: If you have already chosen your teammate, you can skip this section and move on to the next.     :excl:

Always try to find someone who is more skilled than you as your partner because you will know where to improve and how to. But if you can’t find someone better, it’s still good to have someone equally skilled as a teammate. Never settle for someone less skilled than you unless you are the kind who doesn’t mind helping a less skilled teammate.

2. Communication

Communication plays an integral role in team battles. A team without communication is like a country without a head. Some people prefer to communicate via the team battle chat while others prefer talking through headset using voice communication services like TeamSpeak, Discord, Mumble, Skype etc.

I highly recommend that you use team battle chat if you have slow computer like mine. You can use a text expander tool (link) to save time on typing frequent messages.

Noise gating tools like NoiseGator (link) can be used for reducing unnecessary background noise

3. Strategy

                                     iCx25K0.png

There is no other substitute for winning than fighting, but to quote John Dumelo, a Ghanian actor, “A man with dreams needs a woman with vision.” What a woman is to a man is what a strategy can do for you.

proper strategy must incorporate both your fighting roles (who defends and who attacks), props and routes that you can exploit whilst attacking or defending (eg: using the house in red base of map Sandbox for protecting oneself while holding the flag) Above all, it must make the weakness of one to be nullified by the strength of another and vice versa.

3.1 Capture The Flag (CTF)

Preferably a small to medium sized map is sufficient for two players. A large map makes for a dull game unless you want  a sniping/camping competition.

Now after choosing a map, take its top view(link). Now draw the routes and assess the risk of getting hit in each route.

When attacking, your focus must primarily be on taking routes that provides the least risk when you are unsure of where your enemies are. On the other hand, you can venture on the fastest and more exposed route, when you are certain where your enemies are positioned or are respawning. Additionally, your teammate can help by clearing off enemies that pose a threat to you.

Contrastingly, when defending always try to secure the less risky routes and, if not possible, try to confuse your enemies to take the riskiest route so that your teammate can fight him.

3.2 Team Death Match (TDM)

The favourable side to TDM  is that it is less troublesome than playing in CTF as there is no factor of flag and total number of kills of the each teams determines victory.

There is only one rule you need to know here: unity is strength so it imperative that you fight alongside each other.

4. Equipment

                                     dnhboUG.png

The equipment your team chooses must invariably be something both of you is good with. You both should choose your respective equipment after listening to each other’s interests. Similarly, the choice of maps you are going to play should  be decided on the basis of your mutual opinions.

5. The spirit

More important than victory is the spirit of facing new challenges. Do your best in duels and you will surprise yourself with how fast you are improving. Losing is always inevitable in any initiative in life, but always remember that, even if you lose you are gaining something that is far more valuable and incomparable to that addition to your win counter. It is none other than experience, my friend.

No guide is complete without a touch of professional advice. Let me introduce to you a revered eSports player, ladies and gentlemen I present to you *drum roll please* Lankbouv. He has been a renowned player when it comes to CyberSport having competed in several major tournaments like the Domination Series, Master Of Sword. Let's hear what he has to say!

Lone.Berserker: Hello Lankbouv! Thanks for accepting the interview. To start off with, could you provide us with some information on past eSport tournaments you have participated in?

Lankbouv: Things I have participated in

Pro Series Season 4 - Won Pro Series and Gladiator

Masters of Sword #1 - Won Silver

CC9 - Won Champion

TOF Economy - Second place

DominatioN Series - Won Acid

Besides these main tournaments there have been several other less successful ones + lots of Blitz/Ranking Cup tournaments.

Lone.BerserkerCertainly no mean feats. In your opinion, for a Tandem battle which is the best map and which is the best equipment?

Lankbouv: The most fair map for tandem is Zone, but just after that is sandbox and sandbox is certainly the best map for tandems.  Best equipment is a subjective question for each format.  All weapon/hull matches are boring.

Lone.Berserker: How do you think about your performance in past tournaments?

Lankbouv: I think my past performance improved greatly from pro series season 4 all the way to Domination Series when I played incredibly well.

Lone.Berserker: Did you find yourself stressed? Was the competition tough?

Lankbouv: In MOS I got really stressed in the final, because there were expectations on me to perform, but in previous matches I didn't have stress.  In Domination Series I had stress but it didn't affect my gameplay as it did in the MOS final.

In terms of tough competition, the only games I have felt the enemy was hard to beat was Synergy and Vavilon.  Everyone else, when AK is on on form, can be beaten easily.

Lone.Berserker: What mode of communication would you prefer for playing Tandems? Why?

Lankbouv: Voice of course, because quick decisions are needed sometimes, it's not simply enough to say "Flag 1".

Lone.Berserker: Last question! Do you have any tips for aspiring duos?

Lankbouv: My advice is to play sandbox endlessly, then other maps like Zone and Garder will come to you.  Play on voice, you will win more, it's a simple fact.  So many times with people not on voice we lose flags due to mis communication.  Another thing is to stop missing shots, practise your aim.  Many say you can do that in parma, I disagree, the way to improve your aim is to play in an environment where missing a shot really matters, as I did when I was a reserve in AK, people were angry when I missed, and so I learned to aim well.

Lone.BerserkerI'm sure that would be certainly useful for many aspiring to become Tandem experts. Thank you again for accepting this interview. And wish you luck in future ventures!    :)

LankbouvThank you

Hopefully you have gleaned something useful from this guide. So, this is where I leave you to your journey to becoming the best tandem expert in Tanki. Good luck!

Option 1 - The Ultimate Guide to Tandems

Screenshot_9.png

Hello and welcome to everyone! I am I3.R.0 and I'd like to bring you all readers to this new and interesting guide to tandems.

Tandems as we know have been really popular throughout the world, be it a lovely couple like the world famous couple Romeo and Juliet, be it a tandem of two best friends or be it a tandem of two players in a sport, such as Brett Lee and Shane Warne, who formed a great pair of speed and spin in the world of Cricket. We don't lack examples do we? Let's begin with our main topic.

We discussed many examples about the types of tandems in this world. But our Tankiverse is no way different from it as well. Even we have many tandems in existence. Some official, while some randoms. If you are looking for 2v2 battles, then you should go to EU1 in a peak time, where you can see a swarm of 2v2 battles in Sandbox, Deck 9, Duality, etc. which may be even more than the no. of honey bees in a honey comb (   :P) .

Well, talking about tandems, we should always consider a few points which would make the tandem successful in all aspects of the game. Let us move on from scratch to the most important points.

1. Perfect Co ordination -

Pretty much self-explanatory. I might relate many things to cricket because there are many examples over there which I feel easy to relate. We often see in cricket, where batsmen don't even call to run, they just make gestures by shaking faces or by hands. This is why we see 3s and sometimes 4 runs by running as well. The same applies here. Obviously we cannot make hand gestures here. Now here comes the part of Communication. There are two methods by which the tandem can communicate with each other (considering that they stay at two entirely different places) - by Voice call or by chatting. Yes, we do have Battle Chat as a primary communicating option. But for me, it's a last option. Some things do suit to be your last option but they can never be your first option. Same applies here. There is no rocket science here. Obviously not everyone of us has a typing speed of more than 40 WPM. Of course we can make small indications using chat such as f1, camper etc. But I always suggest voice call. Voice Calling makes it really easy and simple for you to contact your partner at the go and provide instantaneous information to him/her from time to time.

2. Proper Use of Communication -

In the last step, we learned why it is necessary to communicate using voice call. Now let us move on to look how we can use voice communication to its best. Firstly, no unnecessary talks on the call. Only battle related information, such as "Flag 2 shot. Moving from the left. Go Block em'. I'm running with enemy flag." Now if I being a noob typist who types at a speed of around 10-15 WPM try to type all this, until I send the message, my partner would be dead and the flag would be captured. Simple. Even if I am a pro typist, until I send the message, the flag carrier would have reached half his way towards his flag. So basically we can see that the battle chat doesn't prove to be efficient enough for tandem matches.

3. A good Match in playing style -

Well, sadly, not every couple can form a good tandem. The reason is that the playing style of one player does not match with the other. This is one of the most common cases we see in tandem tournaments. We all know how important rhythm is, be it a dance performance or a fight. For that, both players must know each other well enough and they must be familiar of their playing styles. If we look at some of the best tandems, we'd find that one player already knows what move the second player is going to make, even before the move is made. So player one takes actions according to it. This perfect anticipation comes only if regular practice is there. If someone asks me how I can match my playing style with my partner, then the answer would be the same, Practice. It's because practice makes you aware of your partner's moves and you are able to react accordingly.

4. Perfection in moves -

This is no chemical reaction. It's just a mind game. It's a stage, which is a goal for each and every tandem in Tanki. Perfection is a stage where in the tandem has already things prepared in their mind before the match begins. They are already prepared to react on each and every possible situation in the game. They have done so much practice that they have the confidence of fighting anyone. This stage of perfection is just like enlightenment for sages. Let's take an example again. Let us suppose my flag is taken. Then I'm already prepared for this. I know that my partner will follow the flag carrier while I distract the second player in their team and try to pick out a vantage point at the enemy base, so that I can shoot him whenever he comes out of cover. That's about it. My partner returns the flag safely and we have things in control again. You might say the other guy in their team might have shot/destroyed me before I reached their base, but if that had happened, then I wouldn't have called this as PERFECTION.

Yes I know the last 2 points seem a bit hypothetical but they do exist and it is possible to reach that stage. So yeah, that's it and now you have the 4 golden keys towards victory for your tandem team. Good Luck playing in Duet Masters and I do hope your tandem reaches the Perfection Stage. Title: Wandering In Space

Most of the times... you want to spent time with the loved ones...  :wub:

But self love is an undeniable attribute of oneself...

Sometimes in the darkest moments of your life... you go deep into solitude and loneliness, just to comfort yourself...   :)

This space mode in TO is a perfect environment to spend time with yourself... Aaaahh... what a pleasure in roaming freely in space... flying and gliding like a free bird... or an astronaut... and falling down like a wandering rock in infinite space... and feeling so energetic after activating an overdrive in mid air... like something boosted you up... What a feeling  :rolleyes:

This picture was taken one day when the legendary player Oufa was dominating in the battle field like always. He had just jumped into the Blue base on Noise and he could he the gold box's loud cries, he took the flag, on the way to the top he encountered one mammoth and an isida! Every tankers worst fear, however Oufa being the legend of Tanki destroyed the mammoth with no problem and then capped, he did this in the space of twenty seconds leaving him with ten seconds to catch the gold. And he was successful.

Option Three

Contrarily to what many believe, Rift is the first war map ever created. Naturally, there are many other lands, but they are no older than Rift. Rift has an interesting story, for it is where the first battle of tanks ever took place. Heed my words carefully, as is the story of your past, and of your future.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Long ago, when I was but a wee M0 lad, tanks lived in peace and harmony. The world was no more than rolling hills and craters from ancient meteorites. All tanks were treated as equals, no matter what paint they wore or what gender they were. They had a noble and kindly king, named King Paxton. All tanks played different roles in society, from bakers to architects to artisans. They played their roles diligently, and there was no need for currency as all gave to each other freely. War and conflict were nonexistent.
Unfortunately, all of this was about to change. You see, little by little, as tanks progressed through countless generations, they started to look at themselves as separate from others. Many believed that they were better than the rest, or that they deserved to be more happy. This change, though subtle at first, was the precursor of their downfall.
One day, Queen Amalthea, King Paxton’s wife, gave birth to twins - their names were Kerchak and Zoltan. These two brothers felt that the other tanks were inferior, and so treated them as such. Not so long after, the time that all tanks had been dreading arrived - King Paxton, already several centuries old, died, and Kerchak and Zoltan took control. They formed a totalitarian government and established themselves as dictators.
2qdn29i.png
An image of the two brothers
All other tanks were forced to pay heavy taxes and provide free services to Kerchak and Zoltan. The two brothers summoned the finest painters in their domain to paint them with special designs that set them apart from the other tanks’ solid colors. After a few years, Kerchak and Zoltan made a decision that would change the Tanki World forever. Because they felt that it was improper for two leaders to rule the same land, they decided to split the territory among themselves.
To the other tanks’ deep chagrin, the two brothers ordered for the rolling hills to be demolished and flattened out, and for the ancient craters to be filled with cement. Architects were asked to build two massive palaces, one for each brother, divided by a gap that would act as a limit between the two kingdoms.
The two buildings were built almost entirely out of white slabs of stone, and were made up of a series of ramps and balustrades. Each palace had its own watchtower, which the brothers used to “keep each other in check”. Large bronze pipes were used as a sort of support for the places to stay balanced on the uneven terrain. The only connection between the two palaces was a bridge, used for official meetings between the two brothers.
Between the two buildings was a massive gap, which later became known as the Great Rift, hence this map’s name of Rift.
330wykw.png
A picture of Rift before anything was built (top) and a picture of Rift after the palaces were built (bottom)
For a long time, peace was reestablished in the kingdom, although the common folk suffered a great deal from taxes and the corrupted government. The only right that tanks had was to choose which dictator they wanted to live under, who in turn accepted them into his realm. However, there was a fatal flaw in this idea - every time a new partisan joined Kerchak’s side, Zoltan became slightly more jealous, and vice versa. What’s more, the brothers had an insatiable ambition for more power. The warmness that had once been shared between the two sides was replaced by a cold hostility, which became so intense that tanks on Kerchak’s side stopped all relations with tanks on Zoltan’s side. While Kerchak’s side became known as the red side, Zoltan’s became the blue side.
Finally, after a few months of this subtle yet deep disagreement, the two brothers freely declared war on each other. All of tankkind, once allies, now had to make the choice of which side they were to fight on officially - they had been incorrigibly split apart.
The tanks spent many years fighting. The death toll after one year was more than the amount of tank children born in the last century. Tanks, once brothers and neighbours, were killing each other unconsciously. Widows filled the streets, waiting in line all day to attain a scrap of food, and returning home with no more than a rancid onion to divide amongst their family.
After two years of this frightful war the two brothers’ armies had weakened drastically, although they did not know this about each other. Therefore, both brothers had the same idea - why not fight one on one, to the death? This way, they would not have to depend on their frail armies to win.
The next day, every tank from red and blue sides alike came to watch the the legendary battle that would seal the fate of their future. Kerchak and Zoltan had decided that they would fight using firebird and titan, along with the red and blue paints.
2vi465t.png
The battle between the two brothers
The fight took place on the bridge that connected the two palaces. Despite their heavy hulls, the brothers exchanged flaming blows in a flurry of motion. Their skill was incomparable; if they had fought any other opponent they would have won. Unfortunately, the two brothers’ skill was equal, and neither could emerge victorious. They kept on fighting until their health was dangerously low, at which point their guards tried to pull them apart… But the two brothers were beyond reason - all they felt was pride and an intense need to destroy each other. Eventually, their men managed to pull them apart, but the damage was already done.
Slowly, the brothers’ life forces were sucked out due to the firebirds’ afterburn. Minutes later, they lay dead side by side. Their armies grieved deeply, and swore to avenge their respective leaders - even today, we still fight the war of our ancestors, and such it will probably be for millennia to come. It is a mystery as to where Kerchak and Zoltan were buried, although it is most likely in a dark mausoleum deep under the earth, where they will rest for eternity.
2lnuyp2.png
The brothers' resting place
Rift is not only the battlefield in which the Tank Wars began - it is also a symbol of the separation of tankkind. Truthfully, we are all made of the same scrap metal, and we feel the same emotions; we all want to be happy. In spite of this, our ancestors only saw faults in each other, and so fought savagely, each with their own beliefs. Now, they have passed the mantle to a new generation. It is our choice to make the decision between continuing to live in this world of hate or bringing peace to our people.
Which will you choose?
2009. The Tanki Turret Creator CoTM had run out of ideas. Popularity falling meant people were quitting; money starting to run out. There were two options. Regain popularity in the population with some fantastic new technology, or ditch the project and run as far away as you could. The company split in two, half trying to invent something new, half scrapping it and trying to see how lucrative careers in pencil-making would be.
The answer was “pretty good.” One day, whilst contemplating the increasing market of the space range - guaranteed to be “out of this world at writing out of this world”, one of the managers threw a pencil at someone, hit, and it bounced onto the table, landing next to a rubber. The manager, whilst rubbing his stabbed shoulder looked at it, and had an idea. He ran off, leaving the others in confusion. He threw together a quick diagram and a model, using a cardboard box and a cardboard tube.
He took his model and sketch back to the TTCC, where they kicked him out and ripped off his idea. With a few tweaks, they implemented a machine to strike fear into the hearts of opponents, and named it “the Smoky”. It went on to be one of the most powerful turrets, and is still popular to this very day.
@QiQi5314
Wasp was first made in a attempt to create a heavily armored vehicle to escort people away from the battle field since the trains can't hold enough people. It was basically a safe with a beefy engine inside and titanium coating outside, with a conveyor belt fitted on each side. The safe couldn't even be scratched by bullets, and can survive loads of cannon blasts, it never fails to deliver the people safe and sound.
Then the creators decided: instead of escorting people away from the battlefield, they dive straight into the fray of battle, being small and fast, they can perfectly dodge the shells flying towards them. First they confuse the enemies with their dazzling moves, then flood them with shots.
But over time, more advanced turrets have been developed, Wasps can no longer survive so many bullets and bombs, it needed loads of cover, and gets damaged quite a bit on face to face battles, so many tankers mounted short-ranged guns with lots of damage on the hull, to kill the enemy without taking more damage.
Wasp also has a bad of flipping when shooting in mid air, and since parkour is also a favourite of many tankers, they've been used almost every time. But flying in the air tips over the fuel tank, and caused leaks and unwanted explosions, so the creators had to change the engine so it uses gases for fuel, and modified the engine to take in less fuel. They called it 'Wasp M1' . But still wanting speed on a low fuel intake, the modified engines costed lots more causing the M2 and the M3 modifications to be extremely expensive, and the fully upgraded M3 which is like M4, is almost un-affordable. So the creators gave up completing the M4 modifications, and drove away to the northern parts of Russia for Christmas in fully upgraded Wasp M3, and of course wearing the Sweater paint.
I've always looked up to my mentor, Hill, when I was young. I didn't know what I wanted to be when I grew up then. I would watch many battles as tanks would jump over the rim and be assaulted before they even hit the ground. There were lots of kills there, in the middles of it. I would see how much strategy went into how to advance, with tactics like drawing the defenders fire with a few strong hulls while a fast one ran for the flag, and tactics for defense as well, like which weapons to use and where to be to flip the opponent when the tanker went into the air for the flag. I would watch and think how I wanted to be like him. Eventually, I figured out what I would be, like Hill, but doubled, with 2 hills and a big ravine in between. That way there would also be snipers on the top of one waiting for a tank to go over the hill and magnums could do lots of damage before the opponent could get to them. Firebirds could stay just below the rim and soften up the opposition, and when any surviving players got to the enemy lines, freezes could keep them in one place while railguns could pound them up into empty rusty shells. So that's what I became. I could be like my teacher, with the same fights over the sides of the hills, but different enough that people would play on me, with slightly different strategies for winning. I could be unique, but at the core, there was the same thrill.
story:railgun
Long long time ago, During the 20th century,tanks had normal turrents and hull,but now,the 30th century,We humans envented a gun that shoots a laser beam that has amazing range and accuracy.We decided to put this on a tank and call it 'rail gun".we humans brought this 'rail gun to war and the winning nation is always the one who had better experience and knowlegde of this turrent we now call 'rail gun'.we even manage to upgrade this rail gun 3 times and now shoots a golden beam instead of the standard blue beam and we also manage to install some extensions with each upgrade if the owner of this turrent can afford it. i hope that we humans could have more and more upgrades and new turrents in the future.
