Least Fun Night of Tanki Ever

I guess we need Hazel and his analyst to concur with Tankers' appreciation of the power of this turret.

They already did a little tweak and last week end did a giveaway of a Griffon module. Now there is 5395 + 1745 (=7140 minus the helpers which weren't eligible for it) tankers who have this nice triple module nearly for free. That's probably what triggered the give away of this specific module: Griffon T-G 24px-Magnum_mod.png  24px-Hammer_mod.png  24px-Shaft_mod.png

Now we have to wait and see, if this helped. So probably no tweak before they perform analysis and measure the effect of this new development.

If I have to rely on a Protection Module to make a turret less "OP" then that's not the correct way to go about iit.

In that situation I'm "forced" to use that protection to just survive when maybe I want to use another.

I don't have that issue with other turrets. Or not nearly to that extent.

OP-ness of a weapon should be considered independently from how many people might have protection against it.

Everyone seems to thing Isida is so OP - and yet i never equip a module that protects against it...

No you have to protect  yourself against the strongest opponent in the map.

You have only to rely on your analysis of the game and in detecting the main danger for you and your team. Then you adapt your equipment.

Lol, nobody force you to die or survive! I don't have all the protection for all the turret so I make a choice about the protection module and stay away form the one i don't have one (or only attack them with supplies on when I have no choice).

OP is a whole. You can't blame a turret to be OP and:

1/ no protection against it

2/ face it head on

3/ not turning your turret

Isida is strong a short distance, while Dirty harry is from far and usually hidden behind an obstacle, which make this turret more hated than Shaft.

everyone wears rail protection in high rank.

rail with high calibre is more dangerous than magnum because it can shoot accurately at infinite range, and spawn kill an m4 medium hull without protection.

Well, I did use "force" in quotes...  the OP-ness of Magnum affects the game more than any other turret save the mystical "Isida-trains"... except you only need one Magnum to have similar effect.

How you "staying away" from Magnum?  Hiding in a tunnel whole game?

Don't understand 3/ above...

Radar battle: locate where they are and where they shower your Territory with their shells. So you choose to drive where they don't see you and where they don't strike.

Sneak behind or flank it and then eliminate the threat.

Not turning your turret do not apply to you, you're a pro.

My list of things that need nerfing:

- Vulcan (a little)

Vulcan needs to be nerfed?! Why?

If only it were so easy . . .

What a drag. Game after game trying to complete missions only to find blowout after blowout, massive drugging non-stop regardless of situation, and of courseat least two Magnums per team. At least. (Naw.... it's SO HARD to use.  BS.  Just remove it from the game. This is a LOS game. )

I digress.  The point being now there are two reasons to leave a game minutes after joining. There used to be one: Lopsideed score.  Now there is a 2nd: Magnums everywhere. And with OD these two factors are just magnified.

SMH.

I love Magnum.

Yes it is. It works for me, I don't see why it should not with you.

But not everywhere, on Noise you stand no chance, the map is too cramped to give you room.

I don't have any protection module against Striker and Magnum. Mainly 40% against shaft, thunder, smoky, isida and richochet. I'm not going over 40% the cost versus benefit do not worth it. I'll keep the money to MU 2 turrets and 2 hulls up to 15/20.

Yeah. Magnum has damaged the game for sure.

It is literally the most annoying and misused weapon ever (Ricochet is close though).

Players think of Magnum as a sort of "much more powerful Thunder that they don't even have to bother using z and x for", rather than as a long-range artillery weapon that I think it was originally intended to be.

It's the players that use Magnum, Hornet and masses of Double Damage and just spend their time running around detonating themselves against you at point-blank range who really really annoy me.

I mean, with the massive splash damage radius it takes minimal skill to use it in this way.

But it guarantees they self destruct, resulting in nothing happening. It's literally just a pointless death.

Unless you can get two or three kills with it and damage other tanks. Even if you only get one kill, you're more than likely to get more than the 5 points that you lose.

Though, I do agree with you complete, it's a pretty stupid tactic.

Exactly, I only use the fire upwards and move back one when under attack. Most people will try and get right up on me thinking I'll suicide myself attacking them.

Biggest issue is CTF. You need to be near your own flag to protect it. And enemy knows that.  So even if flag is in somewhat protected area (ie not in LOS of shaft) Magnum can still target that area.

Same with a CP battle like Alexandrovich.  One point, large map - magnum can be anywhere while it rains destruction on those trying to capture the point. Shafts can still be targeted if they try for kills near CP.  Magnums - not so much.

It does too much damage for a weapon that does not need to put itself in harms way at all.

Being able to target enemies unseen should come at a cost of reduced damage. Or a slower rate of fire.

The fact it has no turning turret penalizes some tankers not at all. ;)

Tanki asked me to take a survery today. "How likely are you to suggest Tanki to your friends?"  Nothingis imnpossible so I answered "1".

"What can we do to improve your rating?" (Or something like that.) My answer: "I've said it all on the forum and your comany does not listen Why should I waste more time replying?"

And here we have this post from Viking4 a perfect example.

Nothing is wrong with the game if the desigeners made a POS out of Magnum just buy a protection module.  If the game is badly designed it's your fault Mister Player.

Gtting close to a3/4 of a year since I spoent any money on Tanki. I cannot put it more plainly what replies like this earn Tanki.

Yeah - saying a turret is not OP if you equip a 250k/125k crystal protection-module against it is... well... kinda silly.

The effectiveness of a turret needs to be evaluated without add-ons.

I battle Isidas every day, on different types of maps without a protection module. Tough to combat? Sure.  OP?  Heck no!

I eat Isidas for lunch with my Smoky/Assault Ammo. When I started I used to use the Isida/Fire.Freeze mod, then the Isida/Fire/Hammer.  I wanted the close-in protection. Now I use Fire/Rico/Twins ... the OP Alteration Trio.

For 'Sidas bang throw off his charge bang throw off his death beam bang bang bang another Isdia dead. Why use a module slot? Heh.

That's the point though. But they actually don't care. All they seem to do is want to ruin your experience.

I thought this was just going to be another hate thread, but I'm reading some very good points.

I agree that this turret is horribly misused as a melee weapon and the designers didn't seem to foresee that exploit. I'm guilty of it myself. My trick:

1-hide

2-reduce my angle to between 0 and 2 degrees - yes flat

3-press and hold space bar until I have a 100% charge - keep holding

4-emerge from hiding and find an enemy, preferably a group of enemies

5-rock my Viking as needed depending on the distance to he enemy, meaning I don't have to adjust the Magnum angle

6-release spacebar - this results in the projective nearly instantly crossing the distance almost in a straight line, and usually demolishing anything it hits and ravaging enemies nearby

7-hide, rinse, and repeat

So I essentially have a Super-Thunder with a long reload. But with so few modules out there, Magnum just plows the field.

Fair? Hey ally's fair in kills and crystals. Tanki has bred me that way (or should I say starved).

Back to modules - modules work in Magnum's favor for a couple of reasons: First, most enemies don't equip Magnum due to its rarity (but becoming less rare) and fire rate. The bottom line is that players have other turrets to worry about. Firebird, Twins, Thunder, Rail, Ricochet, Hammer, and Freeze come to mind although that order is debatable. Second, there is a bigger problem, one which I feel the need to complain about. There is only one useful Magnum protection module - the one with Twins and Striker. The VERY few other turrets out there are IMO rubbish. Unless I end up on Brest or Highways I have not use for Shaft protection. What I really want and what the game needs is a Module with both Thunder and Magnum. Of course there isn't one.

So players like me are learning how to use Magnum like a Thunder.

I generally play no supply battles and Magnum is an absolute beast. On double damage this thing has got to be completely insane.

Almost forgot to acknowledge the point about immobilizing a hull during the charge and firing process. I'm not 100% with the idea but I do think it is a good way to address those like me who are using it like a Thunder. Immobilizing makes Magnum a bit like Shaft, but I'm not sure if it would be too similar due to the ballistic fire pattern.

Earlier this year, I predicted a Magnum nerf in the October time frame. Probably in the week or two before the Halloween event so that the celebration and sale event fans away some of the black smoke from the impacted Magnum player base.

Here's the thing though - we've had plenty of great 50% sales since Magnum was introduced, and while the turret has become common enough to see one or two in every battle, battles aren't 'crawling' with them like we say with Firebird and Isida for years, Freeze and Hammer for months, and Vulcan for the brief window before Tanki sliced a whopping 30% out of its bite. So without Magnums swarming the game, I'm not so sure we're going to see a damage nerf - but I think the imobilizers are onto something in that something needs to be done about he way the turret can be abused.

Whew! Sorry guys - that went on longer than I thought!

LOL, I can only notice that you assume (wrongly) that I'm part of TO and selling blindly TO odds and ends at any cost. Using (again) the connivance conspiracy argument between mod and TO, to undermine my opinion regarding this subject, looks like last resort act.

Anyway I will not amend my POW (based on the current story you provided), and let's say that I'm not a reporter next week, poof my fancy avatar and no urge/pressure to please my respectable admin, if I still post the same thing ... what will be left of your last trump?

Resorting to this can only demonstrate that you don't like people having different opinion and try to undermine their opinion.

I repeat it (coz you seem to interpret things) is your choice not to choose to protect your tank against strong opponent, whoever they are. Listening to your story, arty is everywhere in every battle, thus you do not change the protection module (1.3 hour of use) and then fall under it's shelling. If you put protective equipment against a turret that you qualified as OP, the same way you do for other turret (qualified as not OP), your point of view would bevolve.

I'm not looking to blame anyone (like you are), just to make you look at this from a different angle.

I'm not repeating the stuff about adapting to battle event, coz you're clearly not interested.

Of course play with zero module, that's what I call a manly challenge.

So you think Isida is not OP, let's tell the Isida's haters, coz they do see it all wrong, and let them now that they should worry about Arty instead.

Been telling them that in each and every one of the 17 posts created so far saying how OP Isida is.

I don't create a post on magnum every week (created none at actually) but - as mentioned above - it does do quite a lot of damage for a turret that does not need to expose itself to return fire. tweaking the damage and/or splash radius down a tad would not be unreasonable.

I think the splash damage could go in exchange for a little more overall damage, since then it would be a highly-damaging shot on a direct hit. But, then again, with no splash damage all it becomes is a glorified Shaft that can shoot over buildings.

I am supposed to camp from a safe distance and support my teammates at long range, but instead I jump directly into action, tap the spacebar a few times and destroy everything around. Which turret am I?
