A way to turn graphics settings down even further

Recommended Posts

For those playing on horrible computers (Single core, 2-thread CPU on my chromebook here), I feel that there should be an option to turn down the graphics down even further than the allowed amount now. Not just making the game screen smaller; lowering the render quality, lighting quality, effects (explosions) quality, terrain, vegetation, and shadows.

And it would also be nice to have the + and - keys to change the resolution without changing the size of the screen.

Are you sure you already lowered your graphics to the current minimum? Because in that case you shouldn't see any shadows or lighting and the render quality is already pretty much as bad as it gets. Vegetation won't be possible to remove via settings since in many places it's a vital element of gameplay.

It's gonna look way too ugly if you go below the minimum settings in my opinion  If you are having FPS issues then you can just try other browsers or clients, or if you're using a laptop then plug in the charger or choose high performance in battery settings. Because, Tanki is not a very demanding game in terms of computer specifications.

Admittedly it may have a better GPU in it, but the oldest of our computers which the kids still use, is just that single core multi-thread, with win7 on it, and it plays tanki very happily, in any of the possible ways, browser, client, sa-flash.  So I'd have to think you have rendering problems, possible given chrome does some kind of internal rendering I believe, or just a horsepower problem in the GPU dept.  This thing has... i think its got the old GeForce 8100gs.

The other thing that just popped to mind, is the Flash Player may allow the rendering to be offloaded to your video GPU to increase performance and this isn't being done.  It's an option on the PeeCee version, direct from dopey systems. It might take a little hunting to find it.. It took me a while to find. Google was my friend, it can be yours too.

Oh and what model is your chromebook? Theres all sorts out there, some ARM some Intel based...

Well, getting rid of terrain and vegetation would be pretty cheap, since paints like Forester would do nothing anymore. There's a reason you can't see through bushes.

Plus, even though it's a current option, I disagree with the fact that you can disable shadows. If you choose the right paint, you can actually hide in the shadows, but not with turned down graphics.

SFP will be down, html5 is coming.

How's called gaming without a gaming PC?

Most of the younger generation of tankers don't have/do not have access to a gaming PC.

I know a lot of Helpers who have PC limitations.

I don't possess a gaming PC either. Better things to spend money on (:

Neither I have. I play on an average one.

single thread, 1gb ram, 128mb video, 5 fps, around 800x500 flash player resolution. thats just impossible

Can that PC run an offline 2D game at least? You should really consider buying one with at least 4 GB RAM (which can run at 60 FPS if with all graphic options off).

Great idea ofc. I was just thinking that there should be an option for Ultra Low Graphics, so that tanki can be played on very slow computers with slow internet connections.

I pick up most of my Computers off the side of the road, in the loooong shop :)  Occasionally invest in a newer video card..

Really? even a 386 was able to pull out bad 3d rendering for the much loved Wolfenstein 3D.. not even a poofteenth of the horsepower available on any computer today. :)

I don't think you can go down any further than you already can... unless you're thinking of options such as making all tanks paints' being seen as the default paint (Green).

You are not using the lowest available graphics. Your graphics settings should look like this, especially with Automatic Graphics Quality being off (highlighted):

After configuring the settings like this, go into a battle (try to avoid large maps, for example berlin, rio, dusseldorf, lost temple etc.). Your FPS should be greater than 25FPS. Make sure your not running any other things on your computer. If you feel brave, hesitate a bit, and the go to task-manager (right-click on the taskbar, there should be an option there) and kill off unnecessary programs. NOTE: This is a bit of a dangerous territory, so I suggest some precautions. Do not kill programs if a window of confirmation comes up when you try to kill it, these tend to be system tasks.

Also try to remove unnecessary extensions on your chrome.

If you still suffer from drastic and continued FPS drops, then quit gaming, download Kindle and read books.
