stop Multing + Powerleveling by IP matching

My idea is that Tanki game engine in every battle would go through all the players with 0 score and check their IPs. If 80% of their IP adresses matched, they would all be kicked from the battle. If only one player had any score and the battle was over a minute through, and they were not the only one in the battle for a minute, then they would be kicked and possibly banned (depending on what mods think).

That sounds like a good idea at first, but in the way you put it you will run into serious troubles. A match in IPs across the teams is not a necessary sign for mults, as it could be that some guy's from a student hostel are playing the game with & against each other. And if one of them moved to the toilet for 2 minutes, your system would kick and punish all of them.

(or brothers, of ppl from a really small village sharing the same IP, or private owned buildigings with multiple flats that share one broadband access,... and so on)

 

To do that needs a far more sophisticated system that memorizes relations between potential mults (players with low score) and members of the other team using the same IP; so that - over time - it will find potential relations with an improved likelyhood. So over time it would be able to detect mults&their owners with a better hitrate -> but -> only report them. You can still not purge them autonomously.

^ In addition to this, actual "mults" could all be different friends of one player, whom he asked to join the enemy team to sabotage. And since they are different people with different IPs, the system will be useless against them.

This stinks. This is a good idea but then the mods explained the bad parts. Isn't it sad how far mults will go to sabotage a game?

true.. it's really sad, how destructive (game fun, grief, ..) such highly selfish actions are to others.

But what can you expect from people that live up to the paradigm of "I don't care"..

 

 

What if people who share the same IP are not allowed to join the same battle? I think there are more pros than cons there.

Such players (different person but same IP) often share other things in the game, like they are in the same clan, they play together and therefore get to know the same friends, and so on. I think you can hardly do that.

And all that Mults would have to do is share their skype contact data in order to ask some other mult-user to place thei mults in each others battle.

 

Same IPs are an indication, but far from beeing sufficient.

There could be an exception for clans.

 

Multing using friends and Skype will be tedious, few will go that way.
