hmm i really didn't try but once friend play with sony controller 
if you have the controller then go try to plugin it and change some setting in tanki control and try if it will work or no

There is a program called XPadder, for which is a third party software, and it allows you to map out keyboard keys, on to a game controller. It is a great app that can simulate the controls of the keyboard on a controller. Here is a full guide on how to set it up in Youtube:

I use Logitech Profile to use a controller for T.O. sometimes. But you can't get around the fact that the game's engine simply doesn't offer the precise movement you can get with the analog stick. It only knows up, down, left right or diagonal. This also means that you either hit full throttle or nothing at all and that the turret turns at either max speed or none.
