Magnum and why it should be nerfed

Recommended Posts

Before I begin this rant, I will acknowledge the fact that it will not be accepted.

Magnum. While many like it, many do not. I hate it. One of many problems with this gun is that the maps are not designed for a shot that does not move parallel to the ground. Every other turret in the game shoots in a straight line and cannot go over buildings, walls, and other in-game features. These obstacles are nothing to a somewhat experienced magnum user.

The implement of this gun threw off a significant amount of maps. For example, I just came from a Highland CTF. I used to love this map. It's a great compact little map, but with Magnum, it is no longer fun to play. The players with this turret simply shoot right over the short little walls that, up until a few months ago, protected you from every turret. Add two or three of these Magnums and you create a game that goes from maneuvering your tank to shooting over walls.

I understand that Magum is said to be "difficult to master," but quite honestly, once you figure out the angle and percentage, you can camp all you want. I've used Magnum before, and even on the other end, I realize it's simply not fair.

Back to the Highland example. The max amount of skill required to kill the other team with Magnum is rotating your tank and pressing the spacebar once. No need to get anything more than a 5% to make it over those center walls. So you get your noobs in Highland, but then in other maps such as Noise and Gravity that just throw off the entire game.

So not to be insulting here, but Magnum seems like a gun that some kid said, "Hey, let's make a gun that launches exploding projectiles at a trajectory so we can make these walls useless!"

So in case you haven't guessed, I'm saying we get rid of this terrible gun. It was fun (not really) while it lasted, but it's definitely time for it to go. And if you see this "idea" after it's been merged with another topic, please like if you agree with me and if you disagree tell me why you like the gun so I can rant about it again.

Declined.

Under review

Completed

Developers are the ones who decide which Turrets need to be removed and which new Turrets can be added and when. Magnum is definitely way too powerful now so a nerfe would definitely suit it and I hope the developers will do it. We don't accept such ideas as what needs to be removed and what needs to be added is not up to us.

I hope they do something about it, as the number of complaints is increasing - and they are valid.

@tidesbyu! I think you haven't still get the point, TankiOnline officials actually want us to leave this game.

Highland is not the only map which is destroyed by Magnum,

in the list of those Maps that are completely destroyed by the release of this weapon, Noice CTF is on the top.

Tanki-officials plan for those maps where most players usually play game except for the Sandbox.

see the example of Madness CTF, nowadays do you see anyone who is joining and love to join Madness CTF, No, No-one there,. and before it was changed I myself was playing that map 3 or 4 hours Daily.

That's the tanki plan.

Devs will almost certainly never remove a turret. However, Magnum will probably get a small nerf (for example, less damage, more unpredictable damage, slower reload) and maps should be adapted slightly to fit with Magnum. It is terrible in maps with a lot of cover, such as Year 2042 and Industrial Zone.

I personally hate Magnum as well. Players either use it in completely the wrong way (as a no-turn Thunder) or use it too well.

The splash damage is too much and the radius too great. It's a horrible weapon that (in my opinion) has made the game much worse, not better.

Well, it's not 100% true. Ricochet has the bouncing feature and it makes it quite unique too. Now I agree this is nothing compared to Magnum.

BINGO! I hoped someone would put this up! Someone finally said something! You aren't the only one who hates Magnum, I hate it A LOT actually so I'm gunna share my battle story about Magnum in one of my favorite maps;

Year 2042

I was in a CTF Game playing on one of my lower player accounts but then while I was helping my team capture Flags and defend my base, me and two of my teammates were hit pretty hard by artillery! We just realized that there was a Magnum on the opposition team! It got a direct hit on us from ACROSS the map! Guess what? Whenever I see a Magnum I type in chat saying;

"Magnum = Overpowered noob Turret"

So yeah, Magnum SHOULD get removed

There is a point of no return, but generally, A I don't get that good a score, and B they turn up fairly early, so no loss.. what peeves me even more is when they start to follow you from battle to battle.  And now with this unified mess, you can't even get away

Removing Magnum will be very difficult, just think of the many players that bought the kits with crystals or money, but if you ask for a nerf or change then they can change your topic from Declined to Under Review, I think.

The talk about Magnum in this section is long over due. I posted before a topic suggesting Magnum to be nerfed, the topic was merged to I don't know what topic.

My suggestion is a nerf in damage and splash damage with faster reloads and horizontal turret rotation.

z = left

x = right

c = center

spacebar tap = shot

spacebar hold = angle (0- 90 degrees)

spacebar release = shot

This is what I posted before about Magnum:

The way it is now it is overpowered and contributes to battle imbalance.

It is not a matter of protection Modules, because in my playing accounts I have and I'm using Magnum protection most of the time and still feel it is overpowered. And at the same time the lack of Magnum protections by many other players affect the balance of battles.

The things that are supposed to balance Magnum don't play a role when one team starts to dominate the other. A Magnum that is spawn killing comfortably doesn't need to rotate its turret from left to right, nor it cares of splash damage. For that reason, the impossibility of rotating a turret shouldn't be considered a balancing factor, and thus damage should be reduced significantly.

This is my suggestion.

It is impossible to play in maps like Highways or Year 2042 with opponents who use Magnum (you don't have any chances if they are using supplies).

As for me, Magnum should be removed from the game.

First part: YES I agree with it 100%. Second part: No, I don't think the controls should be changed. But yes, a change in damage and a lower splash damage and splash damage radius would be excellent.

Let's start a list of maps completely ruined by Magnum:

  1. Highland
  2. Noise
  3. Gravity
  4. Year 2042
  5. Highways

Please add maps that are now RUINED because of this turret

Isida, too.  <_<

I don't understand why you would post your rant, here, in I&S, where it'll certainly get Declined. If you wanna get attention and for people to see it, post it in Game Discussion, as a Magnum Rant. Here, it's already Declined, no one will even look at it.

Highways??? There are so many spots that it's hard for a Magnum to be first in such a map. Highways is still the land of Shafts.

I'd add sandbox, the arrival of a magnum will destroy an otherwise balanced battle.

If you agree that Magnum needs a nerf, then maybe you should edit your topic so it can be put Under Review. I think there are enough reasons to suggest a nerf.

For those who did not read my first post about Magnum, here it is: http://en.tankiforum.com/index.php?showtopic=364093

That was basically a rant about how terrible Magnum is. I did not expect anything of it. However, I did get a lot of feedback on it telling me I should edit it and suggest a nerf and that might be completed. So here goes.

I'm not going to complain about it this time. Instead, I think (and others agree with me,) that the splash damage should be less, the splash radius should be less, and the damage should be less. With Magnum, you don't need to actually hit the tank to sustain a serious amount of damage. The splash radius is way too big, so big that in small maps aim isn't actually required. I just came from an Arena CP and one Magnum up top is enough to ruin the game for the other team. While the rest of us were battling it out with fire, freeze, and Isida, one kid was sitting up top pressing the spacebar every 6 seconds. That takes no skill, and he alone was doing so much as to make the game unbalanced. With lower damage, or even more unpredictable damage (such as that of rail); with lower splash damage, and with a smaller splash radius, Magnum would be a better balance and not offset the game.

To sum up:

Damage is more unpredictable

Splash damage is reduced

Splash damage radius is smaller

As a shaft player i dont think magnum ruined highways. shafts were too OP there, magnum evened it out. Previously shaft mammoths with enough shaft protection and a patroling isida on their team could easily get 60+ kills and never die, magnum forces them out of hiding. you cant get that many kills with magnum over there due to the spread of the map and the multiple levels but at least magnums threatens those isidas and forces those shafts to have to run around giving them less time to snipe and prevent them from camping beside beside the flag pointing their fully charged scopes at the slope to instantly kill anyone who comes to try and steal their flag.

To sum up:

Damage is more unpredictable

Damage is already very unpredictable. The stats are clear proof. Also, using Magnum in large maps isn't as easy as you think, especially in highways, you have to memorize the angle and power for many locations. So having that slight sense of being OP is justifiable over the measure of risk and accuracy.

Let's start a list of maps completely ruined by Magnum:

  1. Highland
  2. Noise
  3. Gravity
  4. Year 2042
  5. Highways

Please add maps that are now RUINED because of this turret

As for ruined maps, Year 2042 isn't ruined, and neither is highways. Highlands isn't actually ruined either, tbh imo Twins rocks there even till date. Noise partially, but it already has been moved out of non-pro battles list. Gravity I guess so, not entirely sure if it's in the non-pro battle list.

I'd add sandbox, the arrival of a magnum will destroy an otherwise balanced battle.

Sandbox isn't ruined, a magnum in a close-range battle will prove costly to the team unless he/she can keep his distance. The enemy team can counter it by simply knocking the tank before the shot to falter their aim.

My personal experience with magnums:

As for most battles, the many games I have lost is due to magnums just sitting around and not being able to have a good chemistry. So for a magnum to trouble you at all, it takes a good amount of skill, and with skill comes power.

I personally hardly use magnum protection at all in any battle, simply because dodging is the key.

Maybe the only thing it needs a nerf on is its splash damage radius. But I believe that's about it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay, let's not forget that Magnum has a fairly large reload time, ranging between 5 seconds for an m3+ (m4) to 7 seconds for an m0. Also not to forget the amplification time, up to 3 seconds, most of us will only need roughly a split second in a small-medium map or a second or two for a large map. Assuming 1 second of amplification, we can say that for an m3+ (m4) it takes 6 seconds between average shots.
Railgun m4 with high-caliber amo:
Damage range; 1120-2240 ,Reload time; 6 seconds.
Now to compare this Railgun to an M4 Magnum deals damage between 1160-2330, so slightly more stronger. You may be wondering why I should compare those? Well, it is obvious. Railgun has 100% penetration so, in effect, both Railgun and Magnum are different but still pretty much the same. Railgun is also much easier to use than magnum, and many people use it. Occasionally people get 2 kills, or at least 1 whilst heavily damaging any foes behind. Magnum users may get a few multi kills, but it's their luck that players roam in groups allowing the multi kill.
If you believe Magnum is too strong. then you must also believe that this railgun also rivals it, hence showing that it still is a balanced turret, since we all know railgun will never receive a nerf.
Magnum takes skill? Nice joke. Let's also consider that Railgun needs line of sight while Magnum does not. Magnum has insane splash, Railgun does not. Magnum can one shot any hull in the game on DD, Railgun cannot.
There are far fewer players with high caliber ammo than Magnum players. It's a poor comparison.
well, it's the only turret without automatic vertical aiming... combined with no turret rotation and no alteration to remove self damage you're often forced to blow yourself up. it doesn't matter in ctf or cp but in tdm you cause your team to lose points; most magnum noobs who might as well be mults aren't bothered by this but it's still not good to kill yourself so often.
