Modify prices of Micro Upgrades

Recommended Posts

So, when I originally began playing Tanki, on an old main, I started during the era of separate parameter upgrades (Example: Say you wanted to upgrade Railgun's reload but were fine with the rest of the stats; separate upgrades let you do that.)

Then they introduced the 50-step MU system, which I found to be helpful and innovative but at the same time annoying at costly. Now we have the 10-step system (Which I should mention, I feel robbed because many pieces of my kit were upgraded to anywhere between 7-8, some even 10 times for my M1s, but I only got 1 step upgrade for my kit)

The 10-step system brought some drastic changes to MU and SU prices, which I find ridiculous. Not to mention that to fully MU a piece of gear, it costs quite a bit more than outright purchasing the next modification, that is if you pay for SUs.

Anyways, my proposal is to change the MU and SU prices to a fixed amount for each upgrade, with progressing timers and SU costs. This may seem redundant as buyers will already be able to max gear out but for players who do not buy crystals, this can come in handy.

We'll use an M0 Smoky for the sake of the example. The idea is to make each MU cost 10% of the base cost of the next modification for the turret. So for Smoky M1, the purchase price is 11,000. This would make each upgrade 1,100. This may seem like a lot but collecting this amount has become slightly easier over the years and for expert players, earning 1,100 in 2-3hrs is child play.

Each modification would have more expensive MUs, however M3s are different. Due to the fact that there are no further modifications past M3, upgrading a turret to M4 (Which is 20 steps, as well) will cost the same as it did to upgrade an M2 to an M3. However, because of the doubled amount of steps, this would still cost a fortune, as it does now.

Let me know what you guys think and if this should be implemented!

Declined.

I would recommend you to buy them during a sale, not to mention that they're already 50% off from what they used to be just a little while ago. Also, now there are only 10 steps, and 20 steps on M3 items. Doing 2 steps is 10-20% of the way, that's not nothing. Yes, micro-upgrades are expensive, but it's so much cheaper to get M4 now than before the update that changed all that.

Micro-upgrades were expensive, speed-ups took forever then too. Now the overall price of micro-upgrades (step + speed up cost) is still the same, but the good part is that you don't NEED the speed-ups to micro upgrade your equipment. It's twice as cheap now to micro-upgrade your equipment, as long as you don't use speed-ups.

About 20 steps costing the same as 50 steps, yes (including speed-ups), BUT to get the same amount of progress before, you had to MU 2,5 steps and pay for 2 speed-ups, while now you have to pay for 1 step and pay for no speed up. This, together with the step cost being halved, makes micro-upgrading cheaper, if you have some patience and know how to get the most out of it.

The total step cost of an m4 turret is currently 455900, before it was 911800 (excluding speed ups).

In addition to above, what you propose won't benefit anyone. The overall price of MUs will stay the same, but it will be harder for free players to quickly get the first few upgrades for their weapon after getting a new modification. So while now you need just 2720 crystals to upgrade Smoky M0 halfway to M1, after what you propose, the same amount of steps (5/10) would require 5500 crystals, meaning that it would take longer for a free player to earn that amount, and therefore their Smoky will be weaker for a longer amount of time.

The current system is highly beneficial towards everyone, so I think it's best to keep it that way.
