Now that Overdrive and the combined battle list have been in place for awhile, what sort of games are you finding?  Are most games close matches or are most games blowouts? Or is it an even mix?

Interesting poll. I feel like the number of competitive games increased greatly after the Battle! button and battle creation changes were made. Nowadays it's still very common to see games being very uneven, but I really hope that matchmaking will fix it.

CTF have the most "blowouts", but CP and especially TDM are pretty balanced.

That is true about CP. It is the only format where the other team's score can reduce. So come-from-behind games are the most likely there.

Nearly impossible to find competitive games when some maps encourage spawn killing. I leave the battle when I'm on the losing team most of the times, the rewards seem to have decrased after the recent update.

Not worth continuing to waste your time in a game where your teammates are blundering around cluelessly or lying upside down, while you are being methodically and repeatedly spawnkilled by a squad of drugging cheats for the crime of having the highest score on your team.  This is the norm these days rather than the exception.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I am going to hold off posting myself for awhile to give others a chance to chime in first.

Honestly I haven't noticed much of a difference since the Unified BL was added but the Overdrive changed the game massively in my opinion cause you have a couple people with OD charged , you get together a attack group and waltz into the Enemy base with 4+ people with full drugs , I mean how is anyone supposed to stop that??

I'd disagree with this statement. I believe that in CTF, you usually at least have a fighting chance of turning the match around, whereas TDM is almost ALWAYS one-sided from what I can see. I agree with your CP statement, though, most are relatively balanced. Also, regarding your Poll, I'd go with:

  • 40% Competitive, 60% Blowout
  • I actually think a few more blowouts
  • Depends. If there's like 3 minutes left or if I have an active OD, I stay. If neither, I usually leave.

If i think we're losing and im disgusted with my teammates stupidity then i leave, if its because the enemy team is impressively skilled then of course i stay, even if everyone else on my team leaves.

Magnum and lag switching have turned most games into trash. The lag cheaters are everywhere. That and huge buyers. They buy themselves a game with all m4's and maxed protections and tons of drugs. Then since they are cowards and never want to lose a game they always have an isida clanmate stuck to their rear and some rail in hiding giving them cover. Most fun game I have played all year was a wolfy ctf where we faced a dozen clan buyers (Russians probably) who came at us with everything the whole game. We mined and mined and mined and stuck together at our flag and killed them every time. They never got a flag and got frustrated.  0-0 was a victory.

What are lag cheaters? Are they the tanks that move forward until you start shooting them, then they jump back to where they came from and then jump forward again?

Cheats and hacks are in every match yet mods sit in chat for some reason?????

Clans seem to make players desperate to prove themselves so they power drug even though they already bought the best equipment.  Its no fun or just stupid if i have to hit a twin/viking 4-5 times with a shaft/rail even if i DD drug, the recharge rate is just to slow.  Plus being killed by a noob who doesn't even turn his turret after you make 3 amazing shots while you avoid them.

Well, my team never gets blown out, when a battle just starts, if it's fated for a blow out, it is apparent in one minute, when I leave. If it's a balanced game, my team wins cuz I have m2s fully MUed into m3s, not many others do, not to mention my skills.

Very good poll! And yes, CP is the most balanced mode. I find blowout games more frequently after the two updates. MM will help with the imbalances through uneven team numbers and mults, but I doubt that this will be sufficient to balance out the Overdrives.

You can report cheater i.e. in the chat tab for game violations. and battle mods will then check them out.

Well now that a few posters have visited I will chime in.

I am one of the people who picked 10% competitive / 90% blowout. Frankly I think that is too high for the competitive part. It's probably closer to 2-3%.

Think about this:

When you answered the poll were you thinking about only the games you actually joined? Or did you include the games on the battle list, checked, saw it was a blowout, and did not join?

On average I click on a half-dozen to a dozen games before I find one worth joining,  Then you have roughly a 50/50 chance you picked the team that gts blown out so you have to leave.

When you include all the available games including the ones you need to sift though before you find one worth playing ... what proportions do you see then?  Does this change your poll response?

I see now I should have included this point in the poll questions. Well too late for this poll. Live and learn.

No, I always check at least a dozen battles (on different maps and modes) before I play.

The very few competitive battles I find happen on maps I dislike and those are mostly CP. Wouldn't change my poll response at all.

The recent updates have not changed the fate of the battles I see at all, it's a one-sided massacre most of the times.

Yes I did (and those games in which I was playing after I joined and the initial round ended). Before I answered I read again to check how you phrased it and voted accordingly.

Yepp, no problem. We're all human  ^_^

When I voted, I took into consideration the battles I've been in and the battle list. If I'm in a blowout, I leave. Even using drug doesn't change the outcome. Getting less than 100 crystals won't even begin to cover the drugs used. Logistically, it makes no sense to stay in a blowout battle.

Looking at the battle lists from the lobby, the difference between the winning team and the losing team scores has too much of a gap. I've been playing tanki for several years. There used to be a lot of close games that were worth seeing to the bitter end. Usually, the winning team became apparent in the last few seconds of the game. Those battles were fun and got your adrenalin up. In the past year or so, I venture to say I've been in about 4 very close battles. The fun isn't there any more and the adrenalin is non-existent.

I used to play every day and on into the evening for hours at a time. Tanki was the go-to game, but not any more.  For the past couple years, I've played less and less. Now, my actual play time is about an hour to an hour and a half when I login and it's no longer on a daily basis. I spend more time in the forums than I do in battle. The blowouts make the battles boring, ridiculous and frustrating. I have found other games that suit my interests. Those are the games that get a piece of my paycheck. Tanki hasn't earned a place in my wallet.

Nice Poll

I voted 70% blowout.  My votes were based on CTF battles as that is pretty much all i play apart from when i have to do missions.

I think the problem appears worse now due to the limited number of battles available rather than a change in the battle structure.

A lot of time people are now forced to play in maps that they do not like.  This means that they are not going to want to stay on a map they don't like when they go behind.  This means that as soon as a team gets 1 or 2 flags behind, the people that didn't really want to play there anyway will leave the losing team.  This then means that obviously the opposition will now easily capture a few more flags which will cause more players to leave and hey presto - battle overrun.

I very very rarely used to leave a battle because my team was losing unless it was an absolute slaughter.  Now i will leave if i don't think my team will win.  This is because Tanki is forcing me to play how they want me too rather than how i choose to do.

Well, till about the rank of first lieutenant, I used m2 isida, and then I discovered twins. When I started using twins, the k/d was .69. Not to mention I have ever since been wasting away in parkour battles. My average k/d after each battle is now 2.00. I'll be above a k/d of one soon.

Also, k/d isn't everything there is, there's more to the game than that ;).

Agreement.  Only definition of K/D that counts is Kraft Dinner.

Campers have high K/D as they never put themselves at risk. Isidas and flag-cappers often have low K/D since they are often at risk.

Until they reward players for K/D score (would be end of all battle modes except DM/TDM) it means diddly-squat.
