In a way I agree and in a way I don't. 

 

If there's a bubble over the tank, I know that player is chatting and not a mult or AFK. Either way, you will meet the business end of my turret. However, on the other hand, sometimes when I'm respawning I'll light my pipe, grab a handful of chips or pet the dog. I may be accused of being a mult or AFK when I'm not.

You would have to be typing for the icon to appear over your tank. I don't think it would be seen by the enemy, just your team. 

 

Since the merger, I seldom chat. I end up on more Russian servers than I do English and the Russians couldn't care less about my English. I know sometimes they may have a game plan, because my teammates shoot at me or block me from doing something. But I just ignore them. After all, that's the way the game is suppose to be played. Right? Teams aren't supposed to be able to communicate. Nope. Not getting on my soapbox.

I don't see how advantageous this would be. Unless they're writing an article or having a hard time writing something, you'll see their message pop-up in the chat after a few seconds and you'll know they were typing, otherwise they're AFK or doing something on another tab.

That'd be so good and much understandable, but there would be of course some cons.. that the player might abuse this feature by opening the chat tab and keeping up a pending message so it would appear as if he's writing meanwhile he is AFK or something else.
