Replay Limit for Basic Battles

Basic battles are are not created by players but rather by the system on random maps. Players looking to join a Basic battle must therefor join one of the existing* selections, Quite often this means a battle created on a map might be 'in play' for hours upon hours. When one battle ends some players leave. But they are replaced by new players. The same map and the same rank bracket stays active.

 

This can be an annoyance to players looking to complete missions, especially those that require exp or Cry in one of the four game modes.

 

Some of the available games are likely to be full. Others are blowouts. Joining one of these means being spawn camped with little chance to work on the mission. This leaves a limited number of available potentially competitive games. The can mean the few games available are all on maps unfavorable to that player's turret/hull configuration, and/or their current rank.

 

Players can log out and try their luck later. But the 'eternal' nature of Basic battles means the available maps and rank brackets might be the very same a few hours later.  Few entirely new battles are created because no one can create a new choice so long as one battle has one open slot for that player's rank.

 

The flip side of the coin is also a factor. Some maps are very suitable for certain hull/turret combos. Shafts love Highways, for example. Once a Highway battle opens it tends to stay open because many Shaft players will join it over a smaller map with fewer sighting opportunities.

 

Basic battle players are therefor left with the much the same offerings all day long. Some days the random creation process gives a player many choices for battles they will enjoy. But other days leave the player with noting but battles they'd rather not play. There is a lack of variety in each 24-hour cycle.

 

The suggestion then is to assign a replay limit to each Basic battle as it is created. Let's use ten for our example. After 10 battles on a given map/rank bracket have finished that battle choice is closed out. Ten repetitions allows for up to 2.5 hours of play on a given map. This will lead to more random battles being created in each 24-hour cycle. Basic battle players will see more variety in each 24-hour cycle. Players will have a better chance to find a battle they will enjoy instead of having to make do.

 

This issue will likely grow in significance once the Matchmaking system forces all Basic battles be joined at random. Forcing players to play in condition they do not enjoy is not a very good way to keep players interested in the game.

You know, I did not realize that. But now that I think about it:  Duh!  :lol:

Once the matchmaking system is finished and released, battles would become more balanced due to the fact that players will mostly be filtered by rank. If there are not enough players in the selection of players when entering a battle in the matchmaking system, the rank bracket will become wider, just to make battles always full.
