Hello readers.

 

With December release, we reached a roundish 70th issue and we are happy you are here with us to enjoy it!

 

This way we would like to inform you that we decided to postpone the New Year issue to January 15th, 2018. Since late December and early January is a time of celebrations, we think it's proper to give reporters a break so that they can spend some quality time with their family and friends.

 

On January 15th, we will release smaller issue, and from February we will get back to the old tracks. Till then, have a blast!

Would appreciate it if the puzzle contest didn't require us to submit an image, but a way to submit with just text. Like, Q on the g form asking : "1 down:" answer slot where you can write "blah"

There is a huge problem with the contests right now, the timing based contests have literally ruined the newspaper for players like me and I hate them. What I really dont understand is what the reporters are trying to achieve while designing such contests at all. By the time the notification of the new newspaper is out, these contests are already over and the usual winners have grabbed the prizes again. In a game where people should be encouraged to play the "actual" game more, the newspaper does the opposite by requiring players to be on-time to take part in these contests. Its uploaded at a time which favours the Europeans better, doesn't take into consideration people's timezone and it is basically "first-come, first-win" I hoped TTC was the last contest of this type, but no, rather the newspaper team seems to be happy with these types of contests which undervalue a person's answer finding skills and focus on being on time for the newspaper release....

 

This is some positive criticism from my side... I've been trying to win EN newspaper contests after the closing of the Hindi newspaper but these contests dont help players like me at all. I hope the newspaper team considers this and does something about it. I am expecting more quizzes like Hexxed's "biggest, meanest quiz" which actually challenge a player.

Quizzes were highly requested in the Newspaper Survey we held through the summer. That's what people wanted and that's what we provide them. I understand your concerns, but when it comes to quizzes, there will hardly ever be a completely "perfect" system. We must put some limitations like Speed or number of winners picked by randomizer. If we would let everyone with correct answers win in the quizzes, the system would soon fall apart, because there would be no way to stop people from sharing answers and thus we would end up with hundreds and hundreds of winners that did not earn prizes by their own skill or knowledge.

 

When it comes to Speed, there will never be a perfect time zone that would suit anyone, because people live in different parts of the world. If you open the quiz in European favoring time, people in America complain, if we open it in US favoring time, people from EU complain. If we don't take time in to the account, people complain that we pick players randomly by some sort of randomizer.

I'm ok with the randomizer thing.... atleast you know you have a chance to win the quiz then, but in this speed based system you hardly have a chance of beating others unless you are on time. There can be a balanced quiz of this sort though, the rewards can be made lesser so that a larger amount of players in the community can earn them (a good thing about TTC) and so that the regulars dont lose out on stuff. Or else, making it a periodic challenge like "THE GAME" is also an option which gives people plently of time to think about but they must be regular. I hope this gets implemented in the next part of the newspaper
