Mines should not be immortal

Recommended Posts

Declined (for the moment)

I think the idea to deactivate mines without nuking yourself up is a good idea and would be a good add on to the gameplay.. but I don't see a way how to combine it with today's game mechanics / how to adapt the game mechanics to make your idea work.

Let's see what happens:

  • Smoky, Rico, Rail, ...
Those turrets have to aim very carefully (horizontally) in order to hit a mine. The vertical auto aim (up/down) will do the rest. That's ok.

  • Vulcan, Striker (Lasermode)
A Vulcan that fires just has to turn it's turret and the vertical autoaim will lock on onto every mine. Same goes for a Striker in Laser mode, that sweeps the battlefield with it's laser. But if we switch off the vertical autoaim for mines, those turrets will not hit them any more at all

  • Thunder, Magnum, Striker (arcade mode = single shots), Twins
Those turrets will clear a minefield in seconds, which will turn the mines literally useless.

As you see, mines become pretty useless if the autoaim locks on them; or they can not be hit at all if autoaim does not lock onto them. If they can be hit by splash damage effects, minefields get cleared so fast, that it does not make sense to plant mines any more.

So I leave it as declined for the while being. If you can solve those issues above then we might reevaluate the status.
