easy alternative to "Games Violation Section"

Hackers...we've all seen them and had to deal with them.  Once in awhile a conscientious player will make a video that conforms to Tanki's rather rigid standards, uploads it properly and the culprit villain is dealt with by Tanki accordingly.

This current system is fine but it leaves a lot to be desired, especially for us lazy folk that don't bother with recording or even have the facility to record.  I suggest a "thread of shame" in conjunction with the current system.

If you see someone hacking, you copy their name (use the vote/ mechanism of course) then after the match, post their name and the type of hack they were using on a dedicated, pinned thread.  No punishment would be meted out, but eventually if the hackers name appeared a number of times, Tanki might wish to investigate or at the very least notify the accused hacker that he has been accused of hacking and told the punishment for hacking.

This is not a cure for hacking, but it might deter it s bit.  If someone sees that they have been turned in 3 or 4 times they might start to get a little nervous and stop hacking.

If a person is innocent of hacking and just the target of another player's ire, there is no harm done to the player and the chances of his name being listed by other players is very small.

First of all, this would result in countless false accusations by players, who hope to get someone innocent banned. And since any name that has been reported a bunch of times needs to be investigated, it would be a waste of battle_mods' time. Besides, how do you even "investigate" someone without any video proof? A moderator would have to catch that player online AND in a battle AND actually hacking.

Second, hackers don't care about getting banned. Hacks are mostly used on accounts that are low rank, were stolen, or bought really cheaply. So them being notified of being reported for hacking will either have no effect, or it will make them switch to a "fresh" account and continue to use hacks.

Third, how long would it take to actually get a hacker banned? Not that many people use the forum, so it could take days and even weeks until a hacker is reported enough times to be investigated, whereas with the current system it takes a single good video from a single player in order to result in a ban.

I'm not sure your really read my suggestion.  I said NO PUNISHMENT would be meted out.  I said Tanki MIGHT want to investigate someone reported many times.  My emphasis was, and is not on banning like your three points are.

I fully agree that video evidence is the ONLY way to ban someone, but having accused hackers listed over and over might be a deterant and might make violated players feel better that they could do a little something.

If someone lists an innocent player as a hacker, there is no real harm done since there is NO PUNISHMENT.  Real hackers would start to show up on the list frequently and innocent players falsely accused would not be on the list too many times....and this would NOT be a road to being banned...I never even mentioned being banned as part of my suggestion.

Just a list...no banning.  The banning procedure is already in place.  This is a deterant in conjunction with the banning procedure...not part of the banning procedure itself.  And Tanki, or mods, need do nothing other than maybe looking at the list from time to time to see if there might be a name to look out for...a very informal thread, not even a mark on karma.

I see what you mean, but this kind of topic is still pretty much pointless. All it would do is potentially create conflict between those reporting and those being reported, especially if the report is false.
