2FA Authentication + Additional Features | Tanki Account Security

Recommended Posts

So. This will contain a few of my personal ideas in which I think could greatly help out every-one within the community. Both new, and old. So, let's start.

Phone Numbers -

Phone numbers. Adding a phone number could add a lot of benefits if implemented. Below will be some pro's, as well as con's for using a phone number on your account. [would have to be added].

[PROS]

{ - Extra account security.

{ - Would allow/disallow authorization-login attempts on a user's account, including the IP address of the location signed in. This would be sent via SMS.

{ - Would be harder for people to "hack" into another tankers account. This would greatly help with preventing account theft.

{ - Could notify a user of payments being made, password changes, and email changes (yes the email already does, this but this can be used as a extra contact method.)

{ - Would make recovering a user's account easier. As if they lost access to their email, as another security feature, they could have them authorize the password reset, by having them receive a SMS containing a 24-hour use code. How-ever the number would have to be the same on which is on the account.

{ - Would make players feel more secure, and might bring in more payments by doing so.

[CONS]

{ - Would be harder to recover your account (can also be a pro how-ever), if you lost your phone.

{ - Users would have to put in a phone number, which some might not want to do.

[ * END OF THE PHONE NUMBER * ]

2FA Authentication -

By adding the 2FA Authentication into tanki, account's can become next to "un-hackable". By doing this, we can ALL feel safe and cozy driving around in our tanks, because NO-ONE would be able to log into our accounts without the auth code.

[PROS]

{ - I won't name all of the pro's, as it basically is the same as the phone number, how-ever users who don't/can't have a "phone" which can contain "minutes" can simply download a applications such as authy, and do this. No fee's would be charged to them, and this wouldn't be to hard to implement.

[CONS]

{ - Would be harder to recover a account.

I get it if this kind of system was used for a personal online profile or a bank account, but a game? Doubt it. Yes, it would be more secure, but it would also discourage players from registering in the game, because when they see the option to input a phone number during registration, they may consider it not worth their time and leave the game altogether. And if the phone number is required, then there will be even less players, since I know from experience how annoying it is to have to confirm registration via SMS, especially if it's something non-essential (like a game).

What about the actual 2FA part?

User's wouldn't have to put in any SMS, or anything like that.

I do how ever completely see where you're coming from with that part.

What about the actual 2FA part?

Still the same thing. It requires users to download something, which will discourage them from completing the registration.
