Constellations

 

“I never did get why they called it Great Bear. I mean c’mon, it looks nothing like a bear!”

 

“Is it really all that hard to...bear?”

 

“Oh jeez, that was bad.”

 

I laugh, stretching out on the checked blanket spread out beneath us on the grass. She’s smiling too, I can tell.

 

“Seriously though, why do they call it a bear?”

 

“It’s ‘cos you’re supposed to imagine that there’s a bear outlined there. See, if you really think about it, the one at the tip is a nose, and that one there at the end is that little bobtail thing that bears have.”

 

“So what do people with no imagination do?”

 

“The question doesn’t arise, because they wouldn’t drive all the way out here and lie down on a blanket in the middle of the night and catch pneumonia just to stare at a bunch of stars.”

 

“Well, sucks to be them. Screw you, unimaginative people!”, she yells, waving a fist in the general direction of the distant glow of the city.

 

“You do realize they can’t hear you, right?”

 

“But it feels so good…”

 

This time it’s both of us laughing, shuddering together under the night sky. We keep going for a while, helped no doubt by the two empty bottles of cider next to us. Non alcoholic, but with a fizz to die for. The laughter eventually tails off into comfortable silence, broken by the occasional recurring giggle as we stare up into the great canopy of the night sky.

 

“What’re we going to do tomorrow though?”

 

“The usual? Wake up at seven, go do outdoorsy stuff, eat, laze about for the rest of the day, and then go home and fall asleep while the Monday morning blues set in?”

 

“I s’pose...or we could be interesting for once and go help with the kids at the library.”

 

“Oooh yeah, I bought those books for them and all, we can go pretend we planned it!”

 

“Please. They know us. Never in a million years would they believe that we planned something.”

 

She looks over at me, the beginning of a smile curling up one side of her lips. “Have we hit that part of our lives where people know how we tag-team at being dysfunctional?”, she asks, her eyes growing innocently wider.

 

“Why, I think we have.”

 

“YES!”

 

She’s waving her arms around above her in a sort of horizontal victory celebration, making various celebratory noises at the same time. She sees my expression and starts laughing helplessly, still waving her arms around, and I can’t help but join in again.

 

When we finally stop again, her hand finds mine in the darkness, and I take it, both of us squeezing gently at the same time. I look over at her, and she looks over at me.

 

And all the stars in the sky couldn’t make a better constellation than she does, lying next to me in the darkness.

Someone triggered an interesting debate here.

The Newspaper is meant to publish reviews, guides and opinions. Why? Because they are the ones with the most views and also because the questionnaire sent to its readers says so too. There is no question about that. The questionnaire also showed that people wants more contest, who do not want those?  :D

But saying that we could still have more stories in the Newspaper. Because it completes the newspaper and it make it whole, more beautiful and divers. And it still might attract a few more readers. The main watch out is that after a time the newspaper only contains stories.

If you ask people that come to the AWC, yes you will have people asking for those, If you go to the e-sport section and ask if they want more e-sport news in the Newspaper you will also get a positive answer.

...you do know there are more constellations than just the big and small dippers right

 

there was no actual info about the constellation given to the reader, apart from the fact that it was indeed The Great Bear.
