If they actually put some effort into implementing it perhaps it wouldn't be dead.

Yeah that mode is dead and when I first played it I just fricking wanted to tear it down

It would be cool if the ball was a physical object which moved when you either shot it, or pushed it with your tank. I know it copies other games but it just seems funner than a 1 flag CTF IMO.

Imagine trying to navigate a physical ball through terrain like Massacre, Silence, or Noise. Now you can see why they make it something you carry instead.

--

If they're going to call it Rugby, they should adhere more closely to Rugby rules. First of all, you can't pass the ball forward! In that case just call it Football (FTL)!

But I think the hype is going to quickly die down when people realize they can just plant a couple Magnums in strategic locations and bomb the hell out of the ball position so noone else can take it. That's the same issue with ASL mode...that and the multi-flag thing that another person mentioned in this thread. Rugby should be a little more balanced than ASL though, depending on where they put the goals at.

There are multiple drop points for the ball also. I really hope the devs put more effort into this because it's a cool game mode. Part of the problem is that people are taking the game for granted. Compare TDM and CTF. CTF is really TDM with some addition. So is RGB.

I started playing it today.

It was really fun! :D   :)

Its like a sport in Tanki ^_^

There were a bunch of Dictator Users, probably using the hull to easily steal the ball. :(

I just know that the fund in rugby mode is really high.... On the test servers even if I was in the losing team I would get fund equivalent to about 75% of my score which is comparatively very high as compared to other game modes and the winning team usually got 1.5x or 2x the fund as compared to the score they put up. Considering the fact that everyone was a marshal in test server, I believe actual games would have really high fund due to the constant killing.

rugby in my books is like TDM and Flag combined into one game. if you have players who are good then the battle will be worth playing but once you have a team who gives up half way threw it. then all is lost and you wasted drugs ( if you use them )  .

not sure if others seen this but new mission

I just played my first came of rugby!

I was going to upload an image of just how dismal it was but the forum doesn't like the image or the host so I'll not bother. I doubt if anyone from Tanki will read it anyway.

The developers should be very happy with this game as it's going to triple the sales of supplies easily.

They also need to produce a special rugby kit. My suggestion would be Mammoth/Magnum and 1500 supplies.

I had a rugby mission (earn experience thankfully) and in 15 minutes I managed to see the ball once and the longest I managed to stay in the game was about 1 minute thanks to double armor.

From my experience the devs have managed to add nothing to the game but have exposed the flaws in it instead.

Drugs now rule the game, Overdrive, if used by the whole team, is devastating. You may as well have kill everyone instantly button.

Magnum. intended as a support turret. is about the best thing going for CTF and rugby Mammoth/Mag+isidia+drugs is practically unstoppable, you might as well just clear a path the the base to cut down on the respawning.

In the middle of a melee to get the ball a gold box drops and everyone, except me, hauls ass across the map to get it. it's a 1000 Xtals FFS if you're any good you can make that in 2 battles. But getting Xtals is more important.

Frankly I'm getting fed up with tank online. Drugs rule the game, the hulls and turrets are very unbalanced, and the balance changes at each modification level. Team games are not rewarded for playing as a team and game objectives are not rewarded enough to keep all modes from decending into TDM.

In my opinion adding to the game is just making it worse.

However, releasing the maps for ASL and Rugby for pro battles might rescue the situation. Here's hoping.

play with low ranks, like from recruit to master sergeant, there are no druggers

This mode could be fun with supplies off, hope it's added to PRO battles soon.

Yes there are plenty of druggers at low ranks.

I'm still waiting for ASL to be released in pro battles, it might just save it as a game mode. I played a game late last night ASL on Massacre, about 5 a side no extreme drugging, just picking up the drops. It was brilliant game going right to the end which was really close.

As an experiment I played my usual gatekeeper role, Dictator/rail, on various maps sitting near the base and picking them off as they come close. Loads of Xtals and Exp just proving my point about there being not enough of a reward for capturing flags/goals/assaulting.

I would like to see Tanki run parallel maps. For every normal map have another with drugs and overdrive disabled, just the pickups on the map, and see how many players play in each. The main reason I pay for a pro pass is to play in games with no drugs. Daft isn't? Tanki is the only game you have to pay for less!

Okay I've got to throw in my two cents about Rugby mode. Overall I enjoy it and I think it is a very dynamic mode. However, there is so much drugging it is insane. That can make it hard to play unless you are willing to dump supplies all the time. But overdrive is another option that can be used to combat this or just increase the problem depending on your perspective. This really needs to be worked on. When playing in Rugby mode, it is really easy to just chill on the side and pick off people fighting over the ball which can help your team lose (but give you a ridiculous k/d), but I was often drawn into the thick of it. Honestly, there was constant action, never a dull moment, no stalemates like CTF. Just constant battle, the way it's supposed to be. I was concerned that it would be like ASL (which I enjoyed over the holidays a few years ago) and die quickly, but I think if people take the time to understand it, Rugby mode can become a favorite for many. The passing mechanic should be improved to be faster, it felt too slow considering the overall pace of the game. If the devs can fix that and come up with a solution for the ridiculous drugging, Rugby will be a hit.

A marker over the tank with the ball would be good too just so you can see where the action is on the lager maps when you spawn the other side of the map.

It would have been good to see this as a large ball you could move around by shooting at it. at least it would have been something different than TDM with a twist.

Having some kind of indicator for which team has the ball would be a great addition.

I don't have anything against this new mode except that I would have liked more if it was available as a pro battle mode so players could create, practice, have fun, enjoy the mode especially in Parkour battles, imagine Silence battle just like the ones we see now except that this new mode was applied to it. Many tankers most likely would have enjoyed spending time in Parkour battles by just passing around the ball, etc...

Useless,

They should focus on Modifying the older updates,

These kind's of modes should be implemented in Special Holidays. Really, Those 2 are team battles, and I've to play DM's every time. Every corner is my enemy.

Check out ASL, Only few battles in Wo-5.

Does anyone know if there is a a guide to rugby mode, or if there is one in the making?

If so it needs translating into Russian, preferably using small words, so that players know what to do when they have the ball.

I've witnessed players backing away from the ball when it was dropped by the opposition inches from our goal, and another player drive the ball all the way to our goal and try to throw it onto the containers behind the goal in Massacre. Needless to say a fully drugged enemy swooped in and scored with it.

Can someone explain that the ball re-spawns when out of play like a dropped flag so there's no point in hiding it.

This is going to be a great game mode for saboteurs. In one game one of out players kept running the ball back to our goal and then throwing it to the nearest enemy.

You know I might just start writing a guide on how to play as team in Tanki. Seems the best time to get a sensible game is about midnight when all the kiddies have gone bedebyes.

I find it hard to notice where the ball is in rugby mode.

When no one has the ball, that green ball showing where to find it is a great idea and helpful.

But when someone does have it, ...  I don't know if it is my team with possession, or the enemy. And sometimes I have just absolutely no clue where it is.

With ctf... sometimes this happened too, but you had clues. A big shiny orb of blue or red that lit up everything within a few meters for you to track it down.

The ball in rugby mode is faint and see through. Maybe on purpose? I have a titan as my only tank... and I can score more often than I figured I should be able to. So maybe this problem of not knowing where the ball is is actually helping me to score.

But I find it overly frustrating.

I like the no stalemates like you have in ctf. Everyone is always converging. It's funny when goals come. And it is very easy to score because anyone who decides their odds of getting gold are low... can easily get a point in no time.

I mean I dunno. It's not my favourite mode yet. I haven't even played all the maps yet. To know how the maps are designed for it. But yeah I dunno. Anywyas.
