Live battle feed on billboards

Recommended Posts

So, you know those billboards that dot the landscapes of most, if not all, maps? I was thinking they could be changed into a live camera pointing at your teams base; each team sees THEIR base, not the enemies. These screens would differentiate between teammates and enemies by a red or blue border on the outside of the tank. Of course, the boards would need to be enlarged quite a bit, but that shouldn't be an issue. DM could possibly be something like a spectator mode with no one controlling the camera.

Before someone complains about another idea that just adds lag unnecessarily: we're switching over to HTML5 anyway.

Valid

Technological issues aside, I seriously doubt that you'd be able to see anything on the relatively small billboard screen. More importantly, you simply won't have time to stand there and watch TV in the middle of a battle. Looking around for enemies, moving and shooting is a much better use of your time.

Agree.

You mentioned making the billboards larger and you didn't see that as an issue. With that, I disagree. On some maps they prevent you from shooting at the approaching enemy at a distance if you are on elevated ground. Offhand, map Year 2042 comes to mind. Red team. There's a sign to the right of the dirt ramp and just before you go up the metal ramp. In that position, it's difficult to shoot at the enemy that's under the bridge. If you lean your tank out a little, you can do it. But if the sign was bigger it would be impossible.

There are other maps where the sign is an obstacle. Making it larger would be an even bigger obstacle. Many times I have cursed those signs and wished they were someplace else or not on the map at all. If a player isn't a sniper or doesn't go into sniping mode, this wouldn't necessarily pose a problem.

Using the signs as a camera would be a big distraction or ignored completely. I see no real advantage to your suggestion.

HTML5 does not mean unlimited resources. Players with potato computers will experience low FPS on HTML5 too. Rendering views from multiple cameras is quite resource intensive.
