people could still pick and choose what they need/want the most though, even if you restrict it to the same rarity level

But why? Please explain the purpose and benefits of this idea, because at the moment it seems rather pointless. Also, Tanki X has a similar system where they give "schematics" in containers which you then use to make modules.

Hmmmm... Please no. These would be just a filler to prevent you from getting good rewards, especially since the would be on the rare side of the spectrum. Instead of getting an XT skin, you get a random alteration.... yick.

But you can buy alterations for crystals, and they are pretty cheap with sales. I mean, I guess theres that one guy who prefers alterations, buuuut...

But consumables like crystals and supplies are what makes the containers valuable even after you've fulfilled all your cosmetic wants.
