My earlier guess in the teaser thread seems to be pretty spot on :D

I’ll also reiterate that

-KD comparisons will favor teams with less lag =>> RU

-Total kill comparisons will favor larger player base =>> RU

-larger player base will be further bolstered by all the whiners who know the above and will buy RU paint expecting a free lunch

I expect to sit this one out.

Agreed

+ K/D comparison will favor teams with the biggest druggers =>> RU in general

It might have been fairer if we were randomly assigned to a team after just spending 100 crystals as proof we want to take part. Randomisation is key, hence scientifical studies with the highest evidence are randomised.

Streamlining the interface is always good .... if done right of course.

The War side-game sounds quite interesting. Not sure comparing K/D is a good idea. Shafts will rule and Isidas drool. But aside from that it looks quite interesting. Clans suddenly have a function..

Interesting. But I think the Vlog spoke of average K/D. So a good small team will actually have a good chance against a Russia from your example. As you say a lot of wanna-bes and hangers-on might join the obvious favorites thus dragging them down.

The distrust of using K/D seems pretty common to people posting so far.

Yup - nothing like a lower account to mult on another team and drag that k/d ratio into the cellar.

People do this on a regular basis.  imagine what they will do for a limited event?

Once they pass any minimum threshold to participate, will be sitting there like fat hens in front of wolves.

Also the VLog specifically showed Deck9 during the War announcement, implying that PRO battles are in play.

Unless that was another mistake.

Only non-PRO battles will count.

Yeah multing seems a titanic Achilles Heel for this system. Or Talos's heel if you will.

This update sounds terrible, it will be impossible to hide with the flag because enemies will see you trought the buildings -.-

The Vlog says that this viewing icon is disabled when a tank has the flag because of exactly this reason.

Don't see the point of the Flag change....Sometimes I intentionally don't return my teams' flag if an enemy lost it somewhere awkward that is harder to find or get to than the flag at base. Then I can just guard the flag until an enemy comes near and then return it, wastes a bit of enemy time which can be especially useful towards the end of close battles. Or I can return it if a teammate is close to capturing an enemy flag. With this change all of the enemy will be easily able to locate it, not just the guy that lost it.

I actually think this is a bit of a noob change TBH. Literally noob. One of the challenges of CTF is locating an uncarried flag, at certain times in battles it can be the difference between winning and losing, why simplify it?

I think the flag should be like the rugby ball is today, in that when you drop it it shows its location, but it shouldn't show when someone has it. Let's say those two things have some sort of RFIDs that send a signal when in the air or the ground.

That could help in balancing the mode, because if a drugger passes the flag to a well mined Titan to then go and try to return the the flag, the other team will at least know where the flag was when passed. But it could also serve as a distraction. All that better than the drop flag and pick up again to make the other flag carrier think someone is about to return his/her team's flag.

No doubt every change brings good points bad points and strategy adjustments. This might be a bad points type strategy adjustment. But maybe more good will come to ofset this. Or maybe you'll think of a new way to be sly.

This is my idea for the icons...

icons.png

And like I said, the flag and ball position should only show when the flag is dropped, and when the ball is on the ground or on the air.

Also, the goal icon of one team should blink when the enemy has the ball, that would also tell their noob teammates to defend base, and tell noob enemies where to take the ball.

PS: A color like the background of the image should be the background for the client when the skybox is turned OFF.

I think that's how the new flag locating indicator thing will work, tho I might have misheard it. I haven't been corrected yet so I assume it works like so,....

If anyone has the flag = doesn't show where flag is

If anyone doesn't have the flag = location of flag is shown through any obstacle

Here's a couple of scenarios that this change effects, every relatively experienced player would have experienced these in battle.....

Towards end of a draw battle, your team is bringing a flag back to base and a lone light hull enemy is escaping with your flag. Teammate Heavy long-ranger one-shots the enemy flag-bearer somewhere in the middle of a big map that only the long-ranger that rekt the flag-bearer knows, then begins the hunt for the flag. Currently you'd return the flag with some element of communication, knowledge or pure luck. Returning that flag is a battle winning situation, where's the challenge if the flag location is shown? It also makes it very easy for the enemy to get to that flag if they happen to be closer.

Another scenario.......2 of your team is hiding with the flag. Flag-bearer supported by Isida. One enemy comes along and takes out isida and flag-bearer, but gets destroyed by a teammate before enemy gets a chance to return the flag. At this point every single enemy will know exactly where the flag is. Any teammate that then picks up the flag is at a huge disadvantage, any direction they run to hide to is very likely to be spotted, definitely if your team was under almost constant attack. The Isida and the guy that originally held the flag can chase to support....but the advantage they held of being one of few that knew where the flag was is gone.

This is especially bad for teams that are getting overrun, but are putting up a brave fight using battle smarts. For a clan takeover it takes away just about the only challenge that might prevent them from winning in time, locating the flag quickly enough.

…......just because there's a magical indicator that happens to show the location of an uncarried flag through any obstacle.....Pffft!!

:D  :D

When it comes to Tanki, I will always find a way to be sly.

If this new system works the way I think it'll work.

….....If I'm hiding with an enemy flag I can confuse the enemy by temporarily dropping the flag in one location, pick the flag up, then move to another location, drop the flag...etc.etc. Would this work against smart players? Doubt it, doing this is more likely to give them a clue of the hiding places I use. As soon as I get rekt, enemy will know exactly where to head to.

Just seems an 'it ain't broke, but we'll fix it anyway' type of change to me.

GMTA. That was exactly the 1st trick to come to my mind. Honest to gods

Hi, everyone! :)

For the next V-LOG, we'll try something new — developers will answer most common questions from the players!

If you'd like to ask about the War, current or future updates or give general feedback on Tanki, you can >>here<<
