Talking with the stars: Marc

Today I have with me the newest, yet lightyears from incompetent, Reporter Marc. Marc is a Wiki Editor as well as a Reporter, and he can frequently be found helping out on the Forum. He is also very quick to reply to any messages and has helped me a great many times. Regardless of that, this interview isn’t me incessantly rambling on about how helpful I think Marc is, so let’s get on with it.

Tankers section

First, let’s start with the tankers section. My goal here was to ask Marc questions about his Tanki career and get to know him as a tanker. There are questions in this section such as his beginnings, but there are also Hypothetical questions.

Me: When did you start playing Tanki? What kept you playing? How did you discover Tanki?

Marc: I joined in 2015. I played enthusiastically until around mid-late 2017, which coincidentally also happens to be around the time I was accepted as a Wiki Editor. The only thing that has kept me in this game till now is the community and my three major jobs. I was introduced by a close friend via. Miniclip. You can read more about my story here.

Me: I do suggest to anyone reading this to just take a minute and click that link. I’d say that the story is quite interesting and definitely a worthwhile read. Also, I was introduced to Tanki the same way Marc.

Me: What was your very first purchase? Do you remember it fondly or do you not like it?

Marc: My first purchase was probably Twins M0 or something like that but my first 'proper' one that I saved up for was Railgun + Hornet M1, with Tundra paint. I saved for months for it.

Me: And here I am. The sad little noob who’s never saved up crystals to splash out on sales. Any tips for saving crystals, Marc?

Marc: Don’t spend them.

Me: Thanks for that. Moving on then, what In retrospect, was the way you built your garage good for you, or has it interfered with your playing style a lot?

Marc: I'm not that sure. I never really played with much equipment on my main account, so once I hit Major, I pretty much exclusively played XP/BP, so other equipment didn't really bother me. My alt account, however, is much better in terms of its garage (@Authority).

Me: You must have great skills at XP/BP then I suppose. I struggle to even hit a stationary wall, so I think that your skills definitely warrant a duel to anyone who challenges you.

Me: So I’ve gotten to know you as a tanker… but what about as a Helper? What led you to apply for Wiki Editor?

Marc: I always looked up to Wiki Editors, they were always such admirable people. It took me a few weeks to be accepted as Candidate and a long, thorough 2-month wait, but it was worth it. If I'm being completely honest, I was probably quite stupid back then, so I applied for the job partially for the perks. However, in hindsight, I wish I hadn't, for those who apply only for the rewards never succeed.

Me: I feel you, Marc. I’d rather not admit it, but I did once in the past (3 or so years ago) apply for the perks. Needless to say, I’ve fixed my ways and now I just want to become a Reporter because I would love to do it. Speaking of Reporters, Why did you apply for Reporter? Was it a desire you had for a long time?

Marc: I've always wanted to be a Reporter since I was probably a Warrant Officer. I gave up that dream when I was chosen as a Wiki Editor. After a while, I felt that my writing was suppressed - I could write for the Wiki, but not without limits. I didn't like being 'creatively bound' and wanted to be a bit more free with my writing, hence applying for Reporter.

Me: That makes sense. Your interest in English paired with your wiki, matter-of-factly writing style are a formidable combo, I’d say. Now, my next question is purely hypothetical. If you could live in any one time period in Tanki, when would it be?

Marc: Tough question. Early 2016 was great for me - I had a lot of friends playing the game, daily STG's with cool guys, a nice Clan, just overall a lot of fun. I know I missed the golden era of Tanki, but 2016 will always be cherished.

Me: Agreed. I among lots of other people miss that time too. Before going on,  How long can we hope to see you a reporter? It’d be a shame to see you go early on.

Marc: Well, I don't plan on leaving anytime soon, sooo forever?

Me: That’s great!

The Marc section

To the Marc section! Yes, I’ve talked about/with Marc for all this time, and there’s a Marc section. This part is all about getting to know our keyboard warrior, friendly reporter, and Wiki editor. There are some partially personal questions which Marc answered as well as a few What if? scenarios.

Me: Would you mind sharing your name and hobbies in real life other than Tanki?

Marc: My name is, obviously, Marc and some of my passions include cricket, gaming, and sports in general. My main passion would definitely be cricket, though. P.S that's a sport for all you non-Commonwealth nubs.

Me: I see. I used to be quite the cricket fan just like you. Now I’m not really much for it, but I’ve grown into other things like Maths and science. I used to wish I could be a cricketer. Speaking of wishes,  If you could have one wish (other than more wishes) what would it be?

Marc: To end homelessness. Oh yeah, and this, too:

Me: Sounds like a good request Marc. On a rather unconnected note, If you don't mind sharing, what was the happiest moment of your life?

Marc: I've had some pretty awesome moments on the cricket field and some cool holidays, so probably them.

Me: I see. On the flip side, If you don't mind sharing, what is your biggest regret?

Marc: I'm not really sure, in Tanki, it'd probably be one of my old keyboard-warrior moments.

Me: I see. Well, that must mean that you’re quite a satisfied person. You said that your passion is cricket earlier on. But what is your favorite thing to study? As in perhaps Math or English or History, and why?

Marc: English, Geography, and History intrigue me. I enjoy writing and writing creatively, hence why they'd be my more enjoyable subjects. I tend to do well at maths but I hate it to bits.

Me: Interesting! Your writing definitely gives away the fact that you enjoy writing. I’m pretty much the opposite of you then I guess, I love Maths. Anyhow, let’s talk about you! If you could change a detail of your Tanki career or your life, what would it be?

Marc: My previous bans from 1-2 years ago and stupid things said.

Me: I’d wish the same without a doubt. Now let’s get to the more philosophical parts of this interview.  What would you say to anyone reading this article now?

Marc: Stay in school, don't do drugs, don't drug too much, don't lag too much, don't mult too much. Oh yes, and go read the Newspaper, Wiki and participate in Tanki Thinking Challenge kthxbai.

Me: Would you have any final remarks?

Marc: No, I don't have any final reMarcs. Huehuehue

Me: I get the pun! Nice one! Well then, I better go off to look for my next victim… err… I mean interviewee. Great getting to know you, Marc, bye!

Conclusion

As you could probably tell, Marc is one of the most friendly people on this forum, which was quite clearly shown through his not minding to answer the more personal questions. His skill on the battlefield is also quite remarkable, with his 650+ hours no-lifing honing his skills with Railgun and Hornet. To end the Interview, I just hope that you got to know Marc better.

Quite a few edits, mainly to do with structure and organisation. I'd recommend that next time you go for separate colours to divide the interview up. Perhaps look at some other Interviews from the Newspaper for some inspiration. Apart from structure, it was a good read, nice to be part of the interview. :)

I see. As it was my first time, I wasn't really sure where to go. Thanks for your advice though, I shall definitely take it into account for my next victim interviewee
