Who is good with MATLAB? 

I'm not good, but might be able to try to help you. Would you have anything in particular?

This topic is to discuss math, and really anything about it. I suppose it can serve as a place for non-PHD people like myself, to ask questions about maths such as "what is the proof for e^pi(i) = -1?". This is also a club for people who like Maths. If you wish to join our club, please post so and you shall be made a member of the club.

Not a PhD student either, but I'm pretty sure there is no proof for that equation.

At the time I wasn't fully aware of it, but what I do have now is:

 

e^ix = cisx

 

if this equation is assumed true, then the following can be noted for x = pi

 

cis(pi) = -1

 

Therefore, e^i(pi) = -1

 

A few things aren't shown in my "proof," for example the proof for the imaginary number form e^ix (although this comes from the use of calculus) and also the equivalence of cisx = e^ix. Cis here is to say "cosx + isinx" in short hand, in relation to imaginary/complex numbers.

I'm already on my hardest unit of alegbra. Quadratic formulas, square roots all that stuff -_- I already flunked my first 2 quizzes

Don't give up! Persist through!

 

One day, you'll look back and wonder why you found Quadratics so hard and that will be when you start doing something harder.

Always had that issue back then.  ugh... don't understand why it didn't work then and now it works!!!

If you refer to Math (and I'm not sure you do so apologies if I misunderstood) I would beg to differ. Without the concept of Mathematics NOTHING can exist (I refer to Mathematics as in including numbers, operations and everything else).

Mathematics is itself a topic of studying. Before we were studying advanced math and finding things out, the world still existed.

it did, but without any concept of Maths it could not. Even the first humans must have had some concept of Maths to survive.

What he (or she, but with a very hostile name) meant was that Maths is involved in the various occurrences in this universe, including its beginning.

My point is that yes, math does explain and describe the systems of the universe, but it is not something the universe relies on.

In other words, math is not an entity that sustains the universe; it is only concepts and rules that explain the universe.

I'm probably thinking wrong but yeah.

Well in that sense I'd agree, the universe is not sustained by Mathematics but I'd still say that humanity is sustained by Mathematics

For any natural number n,

(n-1)!=n!÷n

Therefore, 0!=(1-1)!=1!÷1=1.

I felt this question hadn't been answered.
