Overdrive activates automatically by default

my Idea is to Activate Overdrive in 1 min If the player didn't Activate it

Because in Events like gold X10 and this new Update ( gold drop in 10 Sec ) player doesn't press Shift waiting for the gold and that effect really bad

Yep, I can see it now. Auto OD activated. Player is on the way to the enemy base. Loads a DD and picks up a DA and SB on the way. 3 seconds later OD activates. OD doesn't last as long as what you pick up or load, but I think it takes precedence over what is already loaded. Player reaches enemy base, OD starts to decline and everything, but RK is in cooldown.  

 

In one of the posts, a player said that he doesn't believe in supplies and doesn't use them at all, therefore, he doesn't use OD, either. It wasn't developed to be mandatory so it's up to the discretion of the player whether or not to use it. (Paraphrased). I agree.

You would have a timer - it's not spontaneous.  So don't pick up supplies just before it activates - or - maybe... USE IT.

 

The whole reason for this discussion is for the noobs who have no clue, or the selfish players saving it only for gold.

So, we all know and have experienced those tankers who just DO NOT want to use their overdrive, because, hey! Tanki is throwing out a x5 goldbox drop rate party!

 

They need that overdrive for the most important thing in their lives, that are golds!

 

Now, such 'saving' results in mostly a frustrating loss for that one tanker trying to win the game. 

 

How do we fix it? Simple, just implement a timer in which you HAVE to use your overdrive (3 minutes sounds reasonable). If they do not use it in that time, the system will automatically activate it. 

 

Plus, for a nice bonus, Tanki could implement, say +5 score for using the overdrive for yourself and 0 exp. And +10 score and 5 exp for sharing the overdrive with a teammate. 

 

+20 score and 10 exp for sharing overdrive with 2 of your teammates, and the number rises as the number of teammates go up.

 

There is no need to implement this in DM, however. As, you are just hurting yourself by not using overdrive, not others.

Plus, the OP talks nothing of the bonuses.

Bonuses have already been suggested in another topic. So the idea of it being disabled in DM is just an addition to the OP. And I'm not sure why you'd want to prevent disabling it completely. The idea of activating it automatically is so that newbies and other clueless players will still use their overdrive despite not knowing how or forgetting to use it.

 

If someone knows how to use overdrive and be smart with it, then it would be annoying to have it activate randomly when you're just waiting for a good opportunity. Personally, I would rather not use my overdrive in CTF for most of the game and only use it when I have to help a teammate capture a flag, for example. And one overdrive used at the perfect moment is better than 3 activated randomly.

You know, just make a new account whenever Tanki throws off a x10 or x5 goldbox party, and see for yourself what I am frustrated about. 

 

Also, this is not the case only for low ranks. Even on Legend games, I still find those 'OD savers' doing the saving and not activating for ONCE, unless/until the goldbox drops. Like, when I am going for the flag and coming out, with low health, they just do NOT activate their overdrive or ANY supply at all, to even destroy the incoming enemies. 

 

And to add, they are the M4 guys. 

 

Please tell me how this is a 'smart' use of the OD. Or how an M4 Legend , who turns their turret, does not know about how to use the OD.

So if their overdrive would activate at a random time, then how would it help you in the situation you described? The only difference it would make is that instead of them having overdrive and not using it to help you they simply wouldn't have an overdrive and the end result would be the same.

Overdrive will change how it works in a few months - or sooner, due to the All New Overdrives, that was mentioned nearly a year ago, and I can tell Overdrive will change how it works very soon because with the XT skin update, all hulls in the Garage contain information about what happens when it activates Overdrive. The only hull that will remain the same when it activates overdrive is Dictactor, I wouldn't worry too much about how players save their overdrive because most of the New Overdrives are basically for the use of one specific player.

@Total_SkiIl Adding specific points/score for the usage of Overdrive now will become pretty pointless due to Overdrive getting a buff soon, and most of the new overdrives don't share their ability with teammates.

Not a random time - a timer would indicate when it goes off.

 

If a player with star can't find a good use for OD within 1-2 minutes (not counting the pre-star countdown) they need other help.

 

Or should stick to non-team battles.

Still makes it random. A player could be anywhere at that point, and 9 out of 10 times they will be alone with no teammates nearby, thus the only thing overdrive will do is activate all their supplies, for themselves only. And that's no use to anyone on their team.

 

Right now players are angry at teammates at times when they could help, but chose not to. So the only "benefit" from this idea is that these moments will no longer happen (or will happen less). But if then those teammates who used to hoard their overdrive may want to help but won't be able to, due to their overdrive being forcibly removed, which, in my opinion, is much worse.

How can you not be near someone when you know 1) when it will be available and 2) when exactly when it will go off... ?

 

There's  a decent chance in 8 vs 8 battle that a team-mate will be randomly going by when it goes off - a better use of the OD than those that refuse to activate it.

What are the chances that you will be near any of the "Noob" players you mentioned who don't use their Shift ? Its only wise to raise awareness and show them it's importance about the feature rather than making it a forceful action.

I assume most people who hoard their overdrive really don't care much about teammates, so either they will ignore overdrive and let it activate whenever, or they will activate it when convenient for them, regardless of teammates.

I disagree. Unless it's CP where you're constantly near points with your teammates, it's actually not that common to be near a teammate at any given moment, on average. Of course there are exceptions, like when you're an Isida following others around.

True - my gripe pretty much applies only to the "all supply" OD.

 

The advantage some teams have over the teams with selfish players will be reduced a lot once the different ODs have been introduced.

Still, someone not finding the use of the overdrive 3 minutes after it is charged, then, I cannot possibly think what they can actually do.

 

By the way, a respawn takes 10 seconds from the time of getting destroyed, until spawning again. And 15 if you self destruct.

 

My point by stating this is simple, you calculate how many seconds it would be before everyone in the team is respawned.

For me, My life is more important and I'm saving it from death. No one know when death will come to take my life so better I save it as much as I can. That's the reason when Gold is far from me or powerful players are going for Gold box, At this moment I go for flags, Cap Points or kills ;P

Why make a new account when easily she can use Spectator mode (if she have).

So then all the noobs who don't like this will turn it off......

Personally, I use overdrive every time when Teammates are near so we can go together for the flag and I think it's better then saving your overdrive for the teammate who is coming with the flag.

You miss my point. If this is implemented. Then those who don't like it will turn this system off. He is not giving you the option to use it whenever you want. So those who don't want an automatic overdrive will just turn it off, thus resulting in no overdrive being used......

 

And no, I am not for this system. I would rather choose when to use my overdrive that way when I am playing Massacre It does not activate when I am alone in the field or when I have 100hp....thus wasting it.....

 

Do not implement this into game the mechanics.
