Will the new matchmaking be the end of tanki?

Recommended Posts

Edit: I was misinformed and mixed up private and public pro battles, so my rant below is invalid. However, feel free to discuss, I'd like to know all your thoughts about the update.

For starters: I'm not fully familiar with all the details of the new matchmaking, so I might be wrong.

C'mon devs, why do you do try as hard as you can to lose people? I love this game, but I'm afraid I won't be able to play it enjoyably after the new matchmaking. Non-pro battles are only fun with Magnum which is currently OP, so I only play pro.

I think not giving the xp in pro battles is a bad move. Players want options. Some like to drug, some hate micro-upgrades, others find gold boxes distracting. New matchmaking would be great if it included same checkboxes before going to battle as the pro battle creation page has. E.g. gather all the people who selected no drugs and create match for them (with the skill-based algorithm as the vlog said or whatever) or take into consideration those who want to play in space mode.

Also, what about the XP/BP battles? I only play those after completing my missions, only this mode is both challenging and fun for me.

TL;DR: Currently non-pro battles are bad and the new matchmaking will be a disaster because it will force everyone to play non-pro.

Change my mind.

Not very helpful to form an opinion on something if you're "not full familiar with all the details."

When the update is released, you will have two options: use the matchmaker, or use the battle list. The battle list will consist of PRO battles which anyone will be able to create for free, without PRO pass. You will also be able to name battles. The only drawback will be the inability to complete missions in PRO battles. It's not that bad actually.

No. The most important drawback will be no xp (yea, technically, 1 xp per kill/cap) and maybe less or no crystals.

Edit: as the vlog said, no crystals in pro battles.

That's only for private battles, not PRO battles in general.

No, it won't be.

Tanki has released more controversial updates than this. In 2014 Smart cooldowns and the removal of crystal boxes was huge. Lots of people complained and threatened to leave the game. (More than the amount right now about MM) Huge buyers and lots of clans said they would leave if you could no longer press 234 at once, but did they? Some did, but a lot stayed and realised it wasn't all that bad.

Likewise when crystal boxes were removed lots of non-buyers said they would leave because now they couldn't earn the necessary crystals. But the same thing happened, lots stayed.

The MM is exactly the same thing, and it isn't that bad. The only battles that will have 1 EXP per kill or capture is PRIVATE PRO BATTLES. Normal public XP / No supply etc battles will be fine and work the same way as they do now.

Many people like to see player in the team before joining.

And as they said in v-log battle are going to be short maybe 10 min and you can't play in same battle after it end so you need to wait another couple of min( if not more) to get in another battle who has that much time ?

For almost 1 year every tanki celebration are taking place only in non pro battle so for playing 10 min we need to wait for 5-10 min that will be frustrating at least for me

so the answer is NO but many will leave

Okay, well, seems like I mixed up private and public pro battles. Sorry. After so many controversial updates I assumed the worst lol. Now I get it, thank you guys!

Answering my question: no, it'll be better.

Nowhere did they mention MM being based on equipment, as that is the biggest issue for me.

If I can't see what battle I'm joining, or who's in it, or what equipment they're using - then how is matchmaking based on rank and experience going to be any help?

Two weeks ago I had M2 and one rank above me joined with full M4s.  Similar rank, similar experience, but huge difference in hull & turret.

On top of that, the announcement in the vlog suggests that teams will be made up of weak and stronger players so that indicates equipment is not going to be considered.

And am I the only one who sees the first two minutes (garage is really slow for me) of any battle is going to be spent rapidly changing hull, turret and module to suit the map.

Only for you then to be screwed for the next five minutes until you can change again, because you couldn't see who your opponents were and what equipment they were likely to have.

The ONLY way MM is going to work at all is going to be if it is based on equipment.

If you're not going to base MM on equipment then this will continue and MM is doomed from the start.

My opinion is that it's devs' way to force players to buy crystals and kits to be able to compete against M4s

That actually doesn't work.

You cannot buy M4s and - as I am discovering - you buy an M3 so you have a chance of defending yourself against M4s, but even if you have the 450,000 crystals, it is actually still going to take you NINETY-FOUR DAYS for you to upgrade that M3 to M4.

The vlog says they'll put strong and weak players together to make a team.  A strong M2 player in a team of strong M4 players is going to get absolutely murdered by the weakest M4 player on the other side.

Yes, it will stop sabotage happening.  But it will be unplayable for everyone else.

My opinion is that Tanki want to push through Matchmaking, regardless of how bad they make it, or how badly it Fs up the game.

threatened to leave the game. (More than the amount right now about MM)

after mm it will slowly drop to 10000

The only people that will be okay with that will be those who have already got M4 and don't need crystals to buy anything.

Everyone else is going to have to find or steal a credit card, because earning crystals for new hulls and turrets is going to be impossible.

I really hate that over exaggeration. It was around 80k players online a day. Yes there are less players but compare it to some other bad updates. The complains aren't much more than that for a so called 'worst update ever'.

Not really. In theory battles should be fairer. So those M4's at Lieutenant General will be playing with Commanders and above, or those with the same equipment type or skill level. Earning crystals should be easier. Now that battle funds will be adjusted towards your effort in the battle, it's really down to you.

Can't remember. Either stream or some forum thread or both. But I am sure it was mentioned somewhere.

In the vlog there is no mention of equipment type, only rank and experience.

So I won't be up against someone one rank above me and two M's higher than me?  I'll believe that when I see it. <_<

The devs have mentioned using the ratings system to match up teams of equal skill. So far the ratings system has worked pretty well and I don't see why there will be a problem with it hen used for MM.

I only have problem with the tank controls as proposed by the short video of Hazel on a chair.

What I assume is that they will make PC's tank control tough n lousy just to keep us on a same ground as to a bunch of kids who play COC on mobile and thinks that's an MMO and they are pro players.

TO should give the mobile players a choice to battle with players that have same devices, that's it, why screw our tank controls?

But I may be wrong, and I hope I am.

Rest as already mentioned in the vLog thread, let's wait for MM, and if u don't like it, don't play non pro, as complaining or leaving will not change a thing.

If TO loses it's PC community they will shift focus to mobile community, I mean many players have left before n what did TO do?

Just Developing the mobile version for the last 2 years.

If used for MM, there are anomalies in the ratings system that could cause mismatched battles.

  • A parkour player that spends a lot of time messing about in parkour battles has a lower Cry/Exp ratio than they'd normally have = lower rating.

  • An isida healer or someone that plays a lot of Poly CP XpBp might have a lower profile KD,which lowers their rating even though they're still influential in non-PRO battles.

  • Non-Premium account buyers have a much lower rating than constant premium buyers.

You'd assume that being considered more noob than u actually are by Tanki's efficiency rating system will have advantages if it's used for MM.

Example.

I have a group of 3 buddies that play a lot of Poly CP XpBp with me. We get an average of 1 KD in these battles which we play most of the time, rekting all of our profile KD and efficiency ratings in the process. We jump into MM battles as a group and the system picks a battle of 5 efficiency noobs and 5 efficiency Pros on each team. Because we're rated far worse than we actually are we get dumped into one team as 3 of the 5 efficiency noobs. In reality, we are good M4 heavy druggers in non-PRO battles and the battle is actually 5 Pros vs 8 Pros....3 of which are guaranteed to be heavy Druggers.

Of course it depends on how Tanki dumps noobs and Pro's into MM battles, it's possibly better than the many mismatch battles we have now,...just sayin'....MM could be based on efficiency, equipment, drugging rate...etc.etc.

Ideally, I wouldn't have MM at all, but devs seem to have made their mind up so I guess we're stuck with it.
