Players leaving a battle before it has ended: Adding consequences

Recommended Posts

Actions require consequences and I propose that Tanki take immediate action by hitting players in the crystals!  When a player joins a battle, Tanki could deduct crystals from the players account.   Players that remain in the battle until the end have their crystals returned to them, but players that decide not to remain in the battle forfeit their crystals with the surplus going to make up part of the battle fund.  At any point during a battle the player is free to leave it, but at a cost - perhaps on a sliding scale.  Many people will be familiar with arcade video games machines where a player would insert a coin and play the game.  Such machines do not offer refunds when the player decides they don't want to play anymore!  The idea I put forward here is of a similar vain except the only penalty is for those that join a battle and leave it before it ends.  This will have the added bonus of penalising those players that take advantage of a system that allows a player to duck out of a dual before being destroyed only to return to the battle almost instantly.  I believe that by implementing a system whereby players have to consider the consequences of their actions, the game would benefit greatly from it.

Developers previously said that this will never happen. People have many reasons why they may need to leave a game, so forcing them to stay to avoid penalty wouldn't be good for anyone. As far as I know, they plan to implement a different method of encouraging players to stay until the end of a battle.

Nice incentive for putting mults on a team.  team with mults getting slaughtered - leave since they won't get any crystals anyway.

Then the winning team that placed the mults gets even more crystals.  Win+WIN / Lose+LOSE

Tanki-X tried something like this - was not well received.  Well - the players who liked to spawn-kill certainly enjoyed it.

When match-making comes back there's possibility of getting put on the losing team with only 6 minutes left, maybe in a map you don't like.

Who wants to stick around for that?

I look forward to seeing a method that encourages players to remain in battle until the end!  Just recently I've noticed that players will leave the battle, wait for it to end and then join again. ... what the heck is that all about?  Go figure!

Happened to me last night.

I joined a 1-1 CTF battle to make it 9 vs 9 with 10 minutes left.

Not long after that the other side seemed to overwhelm us, and capped two quick flags. I hit tab and noticed it was now 9 vs 5.

Where the heck did my team go in two minutes during a tied battle?  I guessing MULTS - placed by other team to lure in players.

When there's enough players so timer wont trigger those mults are suddenly inactive - and get kicked.

Needless to say we lost badly being outnumbered like that in Polygon.

I'll admit I'm one of those who will leave a losing battle.

To get less than 100 crystals for my efforts is not cost effective nor energy efficient.

Isida trains with 3 Isidas and all of them with OD ready to activate. Eventually, all three die and stay at the base until they have OD ready, rinse and repeat. Many times that's an invitation for the enemy to swarm the other base for the win.

ODs are not created equal. A winning team's OD will become ready to activate much sooner than a losing team, making the battle very unbalanced.

Spawn killing with very little chance of recovering

The other team has your team outpowered. Example: 4 good Magnum users on one team and yours has one or none.

I see no sense to stay in a losing battle just to raise the battle fund of which the losing team gets very little.

Beside all that, life happens. Players may have to leave for personal reasons and you want them to be penalized for that?

To take crystals away from players when they enter a battle is the same as paying to play that battle. I guarantee you, this will not discourage players, especially buyers, from leaving. Even if those crystals go into the battle fund. Who's going to get those extra crystals? The winning team and the losing team will still get less than 100 crystals each.

I don't think this the way to encourage players to stay or invite new ones in.

why ? you want us to stay with the losing team which is full of noobs so the enemy team can beat us even more ? we can at least leave with dignity rather than stay and get smashed .

If this happens I basically will not enter a battle until I am 100% sure that my team is the winning team , I join to earn crystals not to lose them !
