Are Updates Always Gonna Have Complaints?

 Share

Recommended Posts

I scrolled through the News Archive to see what people actually thought of the game back in 2012 and guess what I found. There are some comments appealing to remove a certain update, some threatening to leave the game. Sound familiar? To be fairly honest, people say this game is dead, it really isn't it just takes people a while to adjust to 'bad updates'. I think Tanki is doing some good things, but when they do a negative update, people threaten to leave the game without even trying it first! Please, just accept that the game is just trying to become better, don't just leave right on the spot!

hmm i could agree with some parts of what you said
but there is point 'people who leaving with out trying the new update they are leaving because they already saw many updates before and in it was bad anyway in the last they give up and they didn't wanted to test the new update so simply just left to take rest :) .

Remember, there are always going to be haters in this world. There are always going to be people that dislike updates. Some do it for their reasons, some bring up a valid point against the update, but there will always be haters

Is this a rhetorical question?

I think what he's trying to say is that even though players go on about 2012-2014 being the best years in Tanki, when it came to releasing updates it's the same as it is now. Some complain about it, some like the update and others threaten to leave the game if it's released. Which is true and nothing has really changed.

People say that they don't like change, when in reality change is the only thing that keeps so many players in the game. It's a really strange phenomenon, but that's just how human psychology works. If players release updates, they will always get complaints from people asking to stop making changes and keep the game as is. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" - sound familiar?

But then at the same time, if developers DON'T make changes and actually keep the game as it is, players don't complain and instead they simply get bored and leave without announcing it to anyone, so in the end developers actually lose more players while at the same time getting less complaints. It's really messed up behaviour and it makes management of projects like Tanki much more difficult.

Another thing is that almost any kind of update in the game benefits one group of players while being a disadvantage for another group. And this results in one group enjoying the update and quietly playing the game, while the other group hates the update and complains about it on the forum and everywhere else. So as a result you may have more people enjoying the update than hating it, but there will still be more negative feedback than positive.

And then some updates are meant to help the game survive and to prepare it for future changes. In those cases it's inevitable that players will hate the update and developers are aware of it, but it's something that needs to be done in order to make progress. The repair kit change, removal of missions from PRO and the infamous Update 123 are great examples of that.

I agree with Maf.

I used to play a Massively popular MMO that goes by the name Clash of Kings (not clans :D ) till last year.

The game was popular like hell, I knew a lot of players who spent ravishely on the game, even more than $1000.

But then players suddenly started leaving, even I did.

The reason was quite clear, I had almost everything in that game say like the current M4 garage in Tanki (all my 2 years of hardwork) so I was losing interest, and mostly the players who had maxed their levels and equipments had enourmous resources and Power, so they started attacking other maxed players.

It was fun before like if legends play with legends its a matc of skill, but soon like TO players got bored (because people would get their power back and so everyday the map was foged with war say like how the legends drug like hell and soon players lose interest).

Another phase began, now the strongest players formed an alliance and started to attack low rankers (I am glad that does not happens in TO to the extent it happened there).

We enjoyed it, but soon we saw the map became empty, like 80% of the players had left and who were left were like the most top rankers, so I left the game as I lost inetest in it.

And now after more than an year the company has not sank, it's even stronger than before and I am soon thinking about playing again from my old account.

What they did is what games like COC can not even dream of doing.

  • They added a whole new storyline to the game, with introduction of 4 civilizations, so basically they changed the whole graphics for every civilization.
  • They added 10 more ranks above the max level and believe me its even better than TO, not like Legend 29, then 30, but like a whole new level after legends.
  • Addition of new features which the players never thought of, and they were welcomed by a massive number of players.
  • Adding a kind of Matchmaking thus allowing the low ranks to fully grow, and for the high ranks they created numerous missions to earn a lot of goodies.
  • Merging servers, from different kingdoms and making the map bigger than ever before.
  • Allowed a cross kingdom event once in a month that lasts for a week, like War.
  • Added the best ingame tournament battle for the throne, its like the esports tournaments but not just the top 2 tiers fight for it, the low ranks are allowed to forge a group of atmost 10 alliance together as one, so low ranks can have 1200 players fighting against 120 players of high ranks.

I saw all these things from play store and I am more then excited to play that game again.

So if TO is bringing updates we should accept them, as soon we may witness a great n intriguing game, and maybe a lot of old players might one day return :) .

Change is something most people dont like , they play it like they know it so they want it to be the same . Any change will always bring on complaints by some players . When its a usefull change , meaning nerving some weapons or re-adjusting , you hear bad comments from the people who use it , because they offcourse like their OP weapon , but the majority agrees that is was something logical that needed fixed  Any unneeded update will bring more neg comments because nobody likes change since it benefits nobody , its only changing the game for no reason . Same like the MM , there is NO point of doing it . If somebody can give me the answer on it pls let me know . They only make the choice of play limited . Sure i can go pro , not at all difficult , as a play most of my games in pro anyway but you also need to think about new players . A pro pass , when you start the game from 0.0 , is expensive and not being able to choose map , will take a lot longer or put you of the game because they put you in a battle/map which you dont like . Everybody with routine , experience , who likes the game , can figure out some ways around it ( like 10 times leaving battle and enter again to get a map which they like ) but now players will just give up and play another game which doesnt give them the mess .

Well, its a likely chance
Diff players have diff opinion or view.
Some people probably like the new update, others mine not.

You make a fair point on human psychology however I would like to point out that the devs could have easily added updates that add new features instead of removing old features. A new game mode or a new paint would have much more support than removing everything good.

Almost all Tanki Online updates were really good, for example separation of paints and modules (I want the camo not the protection) or removal of vampire effect from Isida and buffing its DPS.

I am looking forward to Matchmaking which will make all the hulls and guns equally strong (maybe devs should give Dictator slightly more health than Viking and Hunter because of its ridiculous height).

Only 1 update was really bad. Addition of the Magnum. Please, nerf it dramatically or remove it from the normal maps.

It should be used only in a format against other Magnums (maybe also Isidas for some healing and maybe flanking enemy Magnums).
