I hardly play ASL and noticed it's not played in general, being one of the least played game modes of the 6 currently. Personally, I almost never opt to play the red team, as they never seem to win. What are your thoughts on the mode? What kind of changes could be made to increase its popularity, or will people just never grow fond of it like ctf or tdm?

Honestly, it's not that bad. It's just that it gives out the lowest funds out of all the game modes except for TDM because all your points come from kills. A successful assault only gives you 4 points or something around that. Plus, it's a game where everyone on the defender side camps until the attackers are getting rekt, and then they unleash the onslaught by spawn killing everyone on the offensive.

 

On some maps, where the point is placed on the end of a map, it clearly favors the defenders more such as Silence or 2042. On others, such as Highland, where the point is placed right in the middle, it clearly favors the attackers more.

Honestly, I dont think its really balanced.
Some players flavour diff team depending on the map. 
But its good they updated that u can't drop the flag for another team mate.

It is balanced in some maps and in others maps it's absolutely awful. I personally think every map needs working on with different flag points, point positions etc.

I personally think ASL should be played in really big maps such as Skyscrapers, magistral, lost temple, Dusseldorf. They are massive maps especially Dusseldorf.

It was much better in its original version. You received lots of xp for capturing a flag, and the blue team could return them for xp. Now it is just lame, as kills are the only way to get xp. Especially now that the blue teams get points for kills. Though all that really did was make it favor the blue team instead of the red team.

I noticed Assault Mode used to give out nice funds. Not any more.

 

Rugby is the new hotness, so funds are higher there.

 

I’ve ranted on other threads about ASL balance being map-specific and others have made the same point above.

 

Tanki isn’t even talking about fixing this, although I do see unannounced changes to flag and assault point locations every once in a while.

I'd argue Rugby is less balanced on every map, but ASL tends to vary based on where it's played. I sort of like that, I'm of the opinion that maps should have a sort of "flow" to them that remains a constant. There's always going to be a sentry in the intel room on 2fort, just like there's always going to be Shafts on Highways.
