I have a few accounts. If I feel an account needs the extra benefit, then I'll buy a few days, but that's very occasionally. Does that make me a buyer? I guess so, since I bought something. Personally, I just don't want to advertise what I consider my business and no one else's.

Your logic makes no sense. The special rank icon is an intentional bonus of Premium accounts that allows their users to stand out from the crowd and show off how cool they are. So by removing the ability for others to see your premium, devs basically made Premium less valuable. Another minor benefit is that hiding others' Premium does help reduce the amount of negativity in chats, since players can no longer accuse others of being "buyers" just because they have Premium.

 

I don't know why you're talking about P2W here, because Premium doesn't give any more advantage in battles than, say, buying containers or buying crystals directly. It just makes it easier for the player to gain EXP and crystals, which is what you would expect when you pay extra money for a service, i.e. free is slow and hard, while paid is fast and easy, just like in real life.

I'm not going to pretend that I know everything. Most likely only devs know the real reasons behind this.

 

I think one of the reasons was because players were joining the teams with more Premium Accounts to have better chances in battle, which is similar to joining the team with higher ranks and avoiding teams with lower ranks.

Just because someone's a buyer doesn't mean they'll buy golds that only give you 1k of crystals.

If I wanted crystals that badly it's cheaper to buy them in the store, not as Gold Boxes.

It depends, if your team is winning you can wear the flashy ones, but if your team is losing camouflage can help, it also depends on your style.
