A guide for newbies - M0 to M1

Recommended Posts

Are you a newbie? Thinking how all those 'pros' have such high amounts of crystals at low ranks? Want to know the secret behind all that? Then read on!

As you would have read, I am writing this guide for M0 to M1, that is, from Recruit to Warrant Officer 1 (Also called WO1). Let's begin!

All about M0s

As you have finally ranked up to the rank of Private , you would now be thinking, "Hey! Something new just unlocked! Let's get it!". I will not suggest that, as you have just started out playing this game called Tanki Online, you need to learn about a few things before you feel confident about a purchase. For not suggesting to get any more M0s, the reason is simple, your, and everyone else's first combo, Hunter M0 + Smoky M0 is pretty good to take you to the ranks where the first M1 product kits unlock, that is, Sergeant . Plus, micro-upgrading M0s, if not done correctly and with a plan, can result in your account being broke, so stick with the Hunter + Smoky combo for a while.

How to earn those Crystals?

This thing is quite easy. You would be saying, "How?", Well, let me tell you. Completing those things called 'missions' can help you out a lot on your journey on Tanki, that is if you complete at least one mission every day (I would suggest completing all three if you want to get to the high ranks fast), as completing these things called 'mission chains', will give you a sweet reward as you go up the number of weeks you completed and claimed at least one mission every day. Also, the reward goes up as you progress through the ranks. However, if you miss a day and do not claim/complete your mission, you will be pushed back to the start of the week, and then weeks will be subtracted per the number of days you did not play for. Now you might say that "I cannot play this game every day! I have a life!", Then fear not, because Tanki Online developers are here to your rescue! As per the latest V-Log (Episode 169, to be precise), the Tanki Online developers have announced that in a future update, they will be changing the mechanics of mission chains so that if you miss a day somehow, that will change nothing, for full info, please watch the V-Log episode 169. Plus, beginners get a special pass called 'Beginner's Pass' that lasts for the duration of 3 weeks. While active, it would give you 50% of additional experience points and 100% of crystals for every battle played. If you have Premium Account and Beginner's Pass at the same time, their bonuses add up, which means that you will get twice the number of experience points and thrice the number of crystals for every battle you play. However, I would not suggest ranking up fast if you want a good number of M1s at quite low ranks, but if you are okay with playing with a small amount of M1 combos (Like 1/2 or maybe 3), then you are welcome to rank up fast and get to those higher ranks!

All about Supplies

By the rank of Sergeant , you would have unlocked every Garage and Shop available alike, things called 'Supplies', now you would think what do they do? Well, in simple words, they make your tank more, stronger. Now, you may say, "Did you say stronger? I am gonna use them right away!", However, my newbie tanker, supplies are not that simple as you may think they are. You will be tempted to use them, and by the time you are getting your first M1s, you would have used them all, that will leave you with zero supplies when using them means anything. Now, how to get them? Well, if you want, then you can get the '1500 Supplies kit' from Shop which will cost you $19.99, if you want to spend your real money, but if you do not want to, then there's a simple way by saving those who come from your missions, mission chains and things called 'Containers', and using them carefully when REALLY needed.

Now to M1 product kits

So, now you have saved your supplies, done your missions chains and finally saved up for that shiny product kit in the garage, but is it the right choice or not? I will only be reviewing product kits that have the maximum rank until Warrant Officer 1 , so let's find out which kits are worthwhile and which kits are best left alone!

1. Savage kit - Smoky M1, Wasp M1 and Ocelot DD M1.

   Unlock rank - Sergeant

Maximum rank until which it is available - First Sergeant

   Price -  19,640 crystals

My review of the kit: A good kit if you like attacking, especially in short/mid range maps and it can be also be used in long range, but do not play very short. If you wander in open spaces too long, you will be destroyed. Smoky with Wasp is a deadly combo if appropriately used, but you do not know how to use it, I would not get this kit. The module provided serves it well because the turrets it from are made short/midranges, but in low ranks, you rarely see the combo of and operating in such ranges. My final judgement -  Overall a good kit, if you look at the price it is relatively cheap, the protection module is still quite useful. If you do not know how to control it, then I would not suggest getting it, but if you do, then get this.

2. Vampire kit - Isida M1, Wasp M1 and Grizzly T-A M1.

   Unlock rank - Sergeant

Maximum rank until which it is available - First Sergeant

   Price - 32,340 crystals

My review of the kit: A good kit if you like to be an Isida healing your teammates, and want to be highly mobile. Same as with Savage kit, it is made for short/mid range maps and not very short or long-range maps. Also, if you wander in open spaces for too much, same as with Savage kit, you will be destroyed pretty quick. Isida, after its self-heal was removed is only good for healing your teammates, and with Wasp, the only thing you can do well is going for and switching teammates quickly for healing, do not expect to rack up kills. As your enemies will swiftly destroy you before you even get within their range. The protection module that comes with it,

Grizzly T-A is suitable for the ranges this kit is made for, as it protects from Smoky, Twins and Freeze, as you would be seeing a lot of them in your battles, but the kit overall is quite overpriced.

My final judgement:  As I said, Isida and Wasp is not a good combo for anything except healing, but the protection module is pretty useful for the ranges this is made for, but the kit's price minuses any advantage given by anything as it does not provide anything useful except for the module. Overall, do not get this kit.

3. Firefly kit - Firebird M1, Wasp M1 and Ursa T-A M1.

    Unlock rank - Sergeant

Maximum rank until which it is available - First Sergeant [rank =9]

    Price - 20,050 crystals

My review of the kit:  Ah, another Wasp M1 kit, what is it with Wasp M1 and Tanki devs anyway? All jokes aside, this kit is made for small and medium- maps. With this kit, you would mostly be attacking and faring quite well if you can handle this combo. The protection module provided is quite useful as it protects you from Smoky, Twins and Shaft. The Smoky and Twins protection is helpful as you would be seeing a quite a few of them around these ranges, but the Shaft protection is not beneficial as you would rarely be seeing them in very short to short maps, but the number goes up if you move to mid-range. The price is pretty much the same as Savage kit, only a few hundred crystals higher, which is a steal if you ask me, as you get a triple module and far more useful protection for just a few hundred more crystals.

My final judgement: Since the turret here is a short-range one, with Wasp, this makes the kit harder to get used to, but once mastered, it can be very well. As I said in my review, the price is pretty much the same as Savage kit only you get a far more useful module for few hundred crystals, but if you like mid/long range, then definitely go for Savage, if not, then get this.

4. Striker kit - Smoky M1, Viking M1 and Badge T-F M1.

    Unlock rank - Staff Sergeant

Maximum rank until which it is available - Sergeant-Major

    Price - 32,085 crystals

My review of the kit: A kit which fares well in mid/long range maps, and in any role. Smoky and Viking are one of the right combos, in my opinion, almost anyone can master it, be careful against other Smokies as they can knock off your aim, so can you do to theirs. The protection module provided protects from Firebird, Twins and Freeze, which are quite common at these ranges and ranks, so it is pretty much useful. The price is a bit high, but if you save smartly, then you can surely afford this at unlock or the rank after unlock, which is Master Sergeant .

My final judgement:  As I have said, the kit is overall good and quite value for money, but a bit expensive. If you like playing in these ranges and want something sturdy (Although Viking is not very stable, it is hard to flip it), then get this kit. Overall, a good buy but not a steal.

5. Cupid kit - Freeze M1, Viking M1 and Badger T-B M1.

    Unlock rank - Staff Sergeant

Maximum rank until which it is available - Warrant Officer 1

    Price - 38,070 crystals

My review of the kit: A kit made for mostly very short, short and short-mid range maps, Freeze is only useful if you know how to use it, and if you do a couple it with Viking and you get the combo of your dreams! It has enough health for survival, and enough speed to circle your opponents while freezing them and get away with it. The protection module is not all that useful because you rarely see the combo of Isida, Freeze and Ricochet in these ranks and ranges. Plus, the price is quite high I must say.

My final judgement: If you know how to use them, then Freeze and Viking make a deadly combo. However, the protection module is not all that useful. Also, the kit is quite expensive for the price, so I suggest against buying this kit, as Freeze and Viking are tough to master, and the protection module plus the price makes no sense.

6. Hammer of Thor kit - Ricochet M1, Viking M1 and Grizzly T-B M1.

    Unlock rank - Staff Sergeant

Maximum rank until which it is available - Warrant Officer 1

    Price - 43,440 crystals

My review of the kit:  Let us break the flow and move to the pricing first, which is very well overpriced I must say. This kit is made for mid/long ranges but not very long. Ricochet takes much time to master correctly but is still not very that useful at M1, plus at long range, it starts to struggle, but Viking is a good pair for it since it has some speed. Now to the protection module, which protects you against Railgun, Isida and Hammer, which is not at all useful considering the price, as you would rarely see Railgun, Isida and Hammer all together at these ranges.

My final judgement: As I said, this kit is overpriced, and the contents it provides doesn't even make up for the price asked for it. So, I would suggest against getting this kit.

A few things

Now, you may ask, "Can't I buy this separately instead of kits?". Yes, you may, but only on sales, I would, however, suggest getting product kits at these ranks instead of buying them separately, to have the edge over your opponents.

Saving your supplies is a must at these ranks, as you do not have to use them, but if you need to, then try to keep the usage as low as possible.

Also, if you want to, you can participate in contests to earn crystals, but do not expect to win every single one. Your entry has to be very good to beat others. So, I would suggest participating in contests as well as doing your missions and going up the number of chains. So you don't entirely depend on them, because if you ended up losing the contest and did not keep up with your mission chains because you thought, "I will win this for sure!", then your journey in this game up to the higher ranks will be a lot longer.

Conclusion: I hope you this article helped you in going up the ranks, successfully. If you have some tips and want to share them, please post them below! Also, please do leave feedback, whether positive or negative (If negative, please carefully list out my shortcomings), so that I can improve upon this. Thanks for reading and your feedback! :)

Approved!

Certainly an interesting read. It's good to see that someone's taking the initiative to write guides for lower level players. That being said, I noticed certain things which could be improved.

  • Format: I found this to be a massive problem. I think it must have been the forum, but for whatever reason, your article was extremely broken up and separated. while I managed to fix the main content of your article, the supplies section was pretty much impossible to salvage due to how badly it became fragmented.
  • Vocabulary: I felt that this was another issue that could be fixed. You used "Really", "but" and "Just" a lot. I would suggest using other words due to the fact that using these words again and again can make your article worse. Also, and I'm sure you are familiar with this, but "and" should not be at the start of a sentence.
  • Formality: This is another thing that could use lots of work. While I managed to understand what it was you were attempting to say, the way it was presented was almost forum slanguage. Not in the whole "noob" and "XD" or ":P", but it was still difficult to interpret.
  • Pictures: Pictures would be highly appreciated by readers and can really make your readers focus on your article. By eliminating them, you risk having readers not read your article.

Sorry it took this long. Your article presents good information, but in a nutshell the presentation of it needs lots of work. That being said, welcome to the AWS!

le real honest stuff

Formatting must have been messed up by forum. Or me

Would sure refine it.

This was a rushed attempt (4 hours to be precise), and I can certainly try to do better.

slanguage

waw

Okay, not a bad guide at all. Like Lol said, your formatting is seriously lacking (I probably skipped half the 2nd paragraph due to it being so large). To build upon Lol's formality point, you should very rarely be using I, me, or my in a guide. In a story or a review, yes, because you're giving your own personal opinion/story, but for a guide, I don't want to hear only your opinion of something, I want to know the facts.

Also, ask someone on forum (, @Cpt.JackHammer) who knows art to help you make a banner. I need some colour in an article.

A very informative, helpful piece :)

I like how you reviewed the only 3 wasp M1 kits and then complained about there being too many wasp M1 kits...

A small note, you should try and be more definite in your comments. Someone who is new to the game is going to get more out of:

This is a good module, protection against Twins and Smoky is extremely helpful, and will save you when pushing for the flag. However, the Ricochet protection is not such a good fit, but will still help in DM

Than:

This module is pretty useful, twins is kinda common, smoky can be a bit annoying, and ricochets are somewhat annoying, so yeah it's pretty good.
