Gold Box no-drop, just appears in dropzone

Recommended Posts

Just an idea, what about having Gold Boxes that don't drop from the sky but just appear at random dropzones?

It would stop the scrum that happens as everyone follows the GB down from the sky to see where it lands - and anyone already there is toast.

Maybe if it just appears - without falling from the sky - there would be a hunt for the GB rather than mass-murder of whoever happens to already be near it or waiting for it to fall.

Valid

This already happens to golds, which are under a cover (in a tunnel or under a roof). They simply appear 10 seconds after the siren and are usually instantly taken.

Now, while I'm not a fan of golds taking up gameplay time and being a distraction from the game's objective, I feel like they are still a very big part of Tanki and a lot of players would be upset if the time between the siren and gold box was reduced to just 10 seconds. But if you're suggesting that the time stays at 20 seconds, then I don't think it will solve the problem of pile-ups, since people will still find the location and scrum underneath it. I think the parachute variant is more interesting.

@Maf

I wasn't really taking the time aspect into account at all, merely that having something fall under a great big parachute means that everyone can see where it's going to land, and kill anyone already there.

The idea similar to that of the tunnels is what I was getting at - siren goes off, gold box appears x-seconds later, no parachute, no falling from the sky.

Even if people do find it, it would be rare for a group to all find it at once and have a scrum.

It would be nice if it went to the first tank that got there, not to the one that beat the crap out of everyone else to get it.  Isn't that supposed to be the "randomness" ethos of Gold Boxes?

Thinking longer-term, with the hull that's going to get the protective bubble that kills everything around it, all that tank has to do is be near a falling gold and not one person at all has any chance.

Maybe as an option in pro battles, I can see this happening, but not in non pro battles.

Here is an idea about a gold box setting for PRO battles that I have posted, if you want to check it out

What about no siren? It should just randomly appear on the ground and be taken by the nearest player.

That would make the GB too luck based

Wasn't that what TO said it was supposed to be?  I know they said it should be a bonus, not something we should expect as a right.

The problem is the Speed Boost hackers that drive under your tank.

Haven't seen any so far, and googling "speed boost hackers tanki" brings up some guy doing a lap from 26secs down to 16.

In any event, hacker would have to search the whole map.... and one of the 19 honest players would more than likely find it before him anyway.

Just exactly what I suggested.

Gold boxes must remain at their 10 seconds drop after the siren goes off. Gold boxes should drop in three ways. They are as follows:

1. Parachute gold box drop.

2. Gold box appears on the ground.

3. Gold box drops from meteorites, like in Cosmonauts Day 2018, (only in pro battles).
