Fast engines, rivality, ambitions and smell of burning asphalt in the air. That's what the racing is about. Believe it or not, this particular activity that pumps the blood in your veins can be found even in Tanki, and today I have just the guy who knows a lot about it. Please welcome, D_A_R_K_F_I_N.

Hello there D_A_R_K_F_I_N, I hope you are nice and comfy. Thanks for accepting my humble request for interview. To kick things off, let's start with some preliminary introductions. So please, tell us a little bit about yourself.

I'm from Finland and I'm 23 years old. I got job in real life and really enjoy doing it. I work as a salesman in a department store. I'm a positive person and friends are important to me. Also respecting other people is very important in my opinion. I have been playing this game almost 4 years and I love organizing the events in Tanki Online. I like football and ice hockey. I love to listen music. (Hollywood Undead, Disturbed and Skillet are my favourite ones). I like to watch movies & series on Netflix. (Mostly CW and Marvel series).

Now with the introductions out of the table, let's get to the real business. How did you stumble upon Tanki? When did your journey begin?

One day in 2014 I just searched for good multiplayer games on Miniclip. I found Tanki Online and I really surprised how good game it was. Before Tanki I played "Runescape" which is also a multiplayer game. Got some friends there, had fun and was hoping the same from Tanki Online. Now I can say it was right choice to pick this game. In my opinion, It's the best free multiplayer game so far.

It must have been a long road, but how did you learn about Tanki Races? Was there someone who introduced you to this?

It was the year 2015 when really good friend of mine suggested me to join the unofficial event called "Ricochet Club". We both loved using Rico and it was the first event I was interested to participate. We made some ”Rico Battles” which were lots of fun. Later I became leader of the Club as well. After Ricochet Club wasn't active anymore.. I decided to make my own Club.

Can you tell us what the Tanki Races actually are? Who came out with the initial idea? How are they organized? And who and how can join them? How often are they organized?

Our Tanki Racing Event is mostly for fun, but it's also about showing players actual driving skills with Hornet and Wasp. After Ricochet Club I came out with the initial idea to have races in Tanki. I just imagined: What if we had races like in F1 in Tanki Online? We also could have "time trials" before the actual race and "starting positions" like in F1. After I figured out which kind of race would be good and what kind of race tracks to use.. I asked my friends would they be interested to join to in racing event. I think there were 8-10 friends of mine who joined at first. I also contacted my friend GeneralVeers and asked him would he be interested to record and commentate races for us. He said yes, and that's how it all started. I would say without GeneralVeers it all might have been for nothing.

We have 2 kind of races:

Public Race:

Anyone can join our Public Race. We have Public Race almost every week, on Sundays at 1-3 pm UTC. Link of the race will be posted on our Topic. We have had 49 public races so far. Even races have been public ones, the most of players have behaved and followed the rules very well. Some players even want to drop lots of gold boxes after the race has ended. I have huge respect for them who has dropped gold boxes for us in Public Races.

Official Race / Private Race:

This kind of race is very well organized. Only players who have proven good behavior and follows the rules can join our Official Race. Before the actual race, me or other organizer make "Time Trials" for every racer who is participating in the event. Basically time trials are about me or other organizer taking time while racer drives the race track. Racer drives usually 1 lap in time trials. The racer who got the fastest time in time trials has first starting position in the race. Official Races are always recorded by the Spectator. We have also commentators almost in every race. After all, we have had 37 Official Races. Sadly, it's been almost one year from our latest one. We simply didn't have spec recorders anymore. I have tried to ask some new guys to record for us, but seems like most of spec recorders are too busy to record for us. I'm really hoping that we will have spec recorder some day. It has been soon 2 years since our very first race. It would be nice to have great racing videos again with the race commentator in the near future.

Tanki Racing Event is organized by helpers of the event. We make map with CTF & Parkour mode.

1st Helper is putting red mines at the edges of race track for guiding racers which way to drive. (Racers are usually racing only in red team).

2nd Helper is putting blue mines which we call "explosive mines". The purpose of these mines is to make cheating harder in our races. We put explosive mines at possible shortcuts and corners of the race track.

3rd Helper (New) goes to blue team and he/she is taking cheaters out by shooting them with Shaft.

If I am not mistaken, GeneralVeers was once the topic owner, or maybe we can say organizer. Did you take the leadership batton from him?

I came up with the idea and created the topic. But before I created topic, I had to make sure that someone could record races for us. GeneralVeers is a good friend of mine and I asked him if he could record races for us. I wouldn't have made the event without him and after all he recorded lots of our races. I'm very thankful to him for doing that.

What do you think is the most interesting thing about these races?

If you are a good driver with Hornet or Wasp. then it's really exciting experience to race versus other racers and show them your truly driving skills. Example. It must feel really good if you start like in 4th or 5th "starting position" and became 1st in the whole race.

Do you have any words of advice for those who have racing in their blood? What to do or not to do in the event if they want to be on the podium?

I think the most important thing in Tanki Race is to drive the race track turns good. Hornet is the perfect choice for racing because it's drifting and fast. It requires good driving skills at turns of the race track. Before the every race, it's really important to check race track picture. In the picture you can see which way to go and where are the explosive mines at. It might give you advance to win the race.

What not to do in the race?

Well, it's like opposite what I just told above. Making bad turns in the race track. Don't get blocked by road barriers like walls or other racers. Most important might be.. Don't lag out during the race.

Do you have any ideas or plans for future of this unofficial events?

There might be one idea. It's about Football/Soccer in map of Stadium. If it wasn't possible to make before, Rugby mode might make it more possible indeed.

Thank you for your time. best of luck with the races. Don't let anyone to pull you over (smirk)!

And so there you have it. If you are interested and full of adrenalin after reading this, do not hesitate a second and give a look to the unofficial Tanki Racing Events. Good luck and drive safe!

Please, American Football played with Hammer-Vikings in Space mode and such sports.  :P
