I have tested MM thoroughly on my alt account and have come to the conclusion it sucks. Wished it worked better, but unfortunately not. I've given some feedback on the flaws yesterday and others have too. Devs should be fully aware of how useless this update is, they made it.

I've a feeling it will be binned soon.

Hello!

 

I am not really interested to make intros in this text, so let's get to the point.

 

 

Matchmaking, the biggest update in TO history.

First of all, for Matchmaking, you need a lot of players, especially because you need 16 players per battle. Several years ago, in 2014/2015, this was possible. There were 24 servers, each server having at least 5000 to 10000 players (average =7500, total = 7500*24= 180000 players). Now, on 1 single server, you have no more than 7000 to 10000 players. Let's say that each rank has same number of active players. That would be 10000 / 31 = 322.5 players per rank, but we know that there are more players at rank of , and rank worse than rank of . Then also, we know that many players are: 1. chatting on global chat (Global 1, 2, 3, 4....), 2. Playing PRO battles (either parkour, wasting time in Silence CTF or doing who knows what in private battles), 3. being AFK (away from keyboard), 4. doing something in garage / shop / clan / waiting to join a battle * . Let's say that's 50% players (it's even more).

You get a number of 3500-5000 players ready to go to non-PRO battle (about 137 players per rank). Divided to 6 modes we get very low number of 23 players per rank & mode. Ideal battle would have 2 or 3 ranks in battle. But not everyone press PLAY! button at the same time. What happens?

We get a battle that's full, 8v8. Since System can NOT divide players equally (many factors - drug count, equipment modification, internet connection, skills...), one team will most probably get more score. Players in losing team will of course leave. Now, either battle is 8v7 / 8v6... or losing team gets lower ranked player. And that process repeats. Why low ranked players?

You can't always get a player in those rank brackets because TO lacks players. How it works? Legends are all in battles. They now need some players. They will get Gissimos. If no gissimo is suitable, then we go to Commander and so. When Commanders need players, they search for lower, lower and lower.

*high waiting time. Why?  System tries to find a battle with as much players on your rank. It can't find enough. Then System waits and waits for players to make good brackets. When system gets 13+ players, it's close to goal and sends closest ranks, even if Legends go against rank lower than Brigadier. Is Brigadier happy to encounter M4 tanks? I don't think so. This is where we get to something that was supposed to be solved with MMS. Not being available to find a battle for your own rank. Now tell me, what's the difference between entering first battle from battle list, without waiting a single second, or playing against same players & ranks after waiting couple of minutes to join that battle.

Why TO reduced battle time from 15 mins to 10? So everyone could be able to play at anytime. If it is so, tell me the difference between waiting 5+ minutes to join full battle of 10 minutes (if u r lucky enough), or being in a battle that lasts 15 minutes and playing all 15 minutes? That is something that got reverted by MMS.

Tankers now can't decide with who will they play with or where. Groups. If your friend is in a battle, you can't send him/her invite to group. Why can u send invite to PRO battle then? If playing against highest ranks is necessary, before MMS, you could at least play with friends.

Why can't we replay a battle after it ends? Why do we have to leave, wait again, play on different map with different players? What's the point to make someone who wants to play again wait several minutes? Just refill the map.

About choosing maps. If you add option for players to choose maps, waiting time will be over 30 minutes. Not enough players. This is something that players don't like. That could be partially solved by making matches replay.

 

Now no more things come to my mind, but I will write in comments / edit this post if this gets under review at least.

I want to say, Tanki Online is not yet ready for such an update. What could be done? Give some reward to tankers who invite other people, promote tanki more, give more crystals to newbies, for this update tanki needs MORE PLAYERS. I am not asking for rewards, you can require players to reach rank of WO1 or something to get reward. When you promote tanki, give newbies something like free drugs, crystals or premium. This "giving" will not be permanent, just to get more players. Like, for 1, 2, 3 months or idk.

 

If EN servers wait long with most number of players (idk if there is RU server, i think not), imagine for Brazil and other communities.

MM SUCKS

 

2.5 to 3 mins waiting... 

 

Enter 1 vs 8 Legends... Really Tanki??? whats is happening to this game?? new administration or new developers roles?? theres lot to fix if Tanki still wants to be one of the top online games... right now is getting far from that :(

Why can't we replay a battle after it ends? Why do we have to leave, wait again, play on different map with different players? What's the point to make someone who wants to play again wait several minutes? Just refill the map.

MMS system tries to balance battles. After a battle ends a lot of players from both teams generally leave, refilling the battle is harder for the matchmaking system to do than simply kick all players and start a new game. Moreover, while the system is looking for players the battle either has to start with less players or the players have to wait for it to fill up. It's simply more efficient to end the battle and start a new one.

Please specify which map you experienced the issue.

Brest. Guzel (number 3 in tab) and me captured and we got 0 points. The point was blue (you can see it in the right), we captured it and 0 points.

I still see multing going on. 

 

Brest (Non-Pro): Our Magnum got killed twice by a Firebird. He never moved. Later, I respawned and he was still sitting there. I materialized, moved him around a bit and still didn't move.

 

Sandbox (Pro): Team size was 2v2. My teammate disappeared shortly after I arrived. I fought off the other two the best I could and went after the flag a few times, but didn't make it. I looked on the team list and his name was still there, but he wasn't. I was out gunned by Magnum/Mammoth and Railgun/Titan. I couldn't use supplies fast enough. But they had all three active all the time. I never saw the blue dome. 

 

Kungur (Non-Pro): There were 5 on each team, but only 2 (counting me) were active. The other team knew that 3 on our team were inactive and spawned killed them. The other player and I managed to get a few shots in before being killed while they were spawn killing the mults.

What if there is super close CP battle. And 3 minutes before the end, a player leaves (own choice or lag). The team is supposed to play 8 vs 7 for the last 3 minutes?

YES - they play short for 3 minutes. 

 

How often is someone going to leave a "super close CP battle with 3 minutes left"?   Not very.

 

On the other hand...

 

How often is someone going to leave a blow-out battle with 3 minutes left?  Apparently quite often since I get plunked into those battles on the losing team.

 

So NO - I never want to get placed in a battle with 3 min left.  Not enough time to do missions, get a decent score or build up OD.

It works now on map where it didn't work before.  I just did a CP game on Aleksandrovsk (3 CPs), and one 2 hours ago on Tribute (3 CPs) and it worked for me - I got 25 battle points for capping every time.

 

Please specify which map you experienced the issue.

 

7 control points: Highways

5 control points: Brest, Desert, Iran, Future, Industrial Zone, Kungur, Massacre, Osa, Rio, Serpuhov, Solikamsk, Wolfenstein, Yorkshire.

3 control points: Aleksandrovsk, Barda, Bridges, Highland, Polygon, Red Alert, Silence, Tribute, Year 2042

Brest did not work.

 

 

I am actually backing off from taking points to allow my team mate to get something.

If you don't want MMS, complaining will not be effective.  I am starting a revolt.  When I see 26K players at peak hours, I know devs won't bring back the old Tanki.  So everyone, please dont try to play MMS.  The day the number of players drop below 10K at peak hours, you dont have to say anything and the change will come very quickly.  So you can keep complaining BUT PLEASE DON'T LOG IN TO PLAY

GETTING MISSION BONUSES (in random maps)

or

PLAYING THE MAPS WE LIKE...

Me too.  I was thinking tanki would announce MM would be pulled so they can fix "bugs" as an excuse

True , for the tanki birthday sales , do not buy anything with cash . Hurt them in the pocket .

For me they can stuff their sales in a place where the sun doesnt shine and give me tanki back . Ill be happy when MM is down the drain . I however think that you are right and that the comment you give is what we will be getting with the Vlog .

the waiting time is not that long though. but battle start with full and end with few player left happen most of the time. In my view, match making in tanki is not necessary. because it always unfair. Although losing still have decent amount of crystals, you still don't want to lost too much because it is such a shame. tanki should focus on other update instead of matchmaking

No, they can probably milk the PRO battles and new players for awhile. But you are right that we do NOT have to play a system that we don't like, just because they can't or won't police the original concept.

It's simply more efficient to end the battle and start a new one.

More efficient. Well, that's good, except not good for the players, who will almost universally dislike it
When did you start choosing more efficient over doing what the players enjoy doing?
Eventually, the players will choose to do something else. Then devs have to get real jobs...

Could have told you that without even trying. Can't choose battle? Can't choose team? Can't keep playing on the same map?

How could that NOT SUCK???

Because you get like 3x as many crystals. And does anyone ever choose a team beyond picking the winning team? And maps don't matter anymore, they made them all stink, with the exception of the originals in pro battles.

I guess I am going to have to start to look for a better game now that this one sucks. I have played for years and it used to be fun, now the fun is fleeting-I hope they fix it soon or I am gone.

Well, I thought I'd give MM a chance since the "bugs" were supposedly fixed.

For some odd reason I never got to play on a map I particularly liked.

In fact I got put into battles on maps I wouldn't have picked at all.

 

This MM crap is ridiculous.

You've managed to suck all the fun out of playing Tanki.

Cheer up. The devs got paid a lot of overtime getting it working. Oh, you wanted it to be FUN...? Sorry about that -- that was never the plan.

All battle modes will now need to be renamed....

 

QuickBattle - Certain Destruction

Team Deathmatch - Team Mismatch

Deathmatch - Mismatch

Control Points - Chaos Spots

Capture the Flag - Let loose the Lag

Assault - Insult

Rugby - Thugby

Battle List - At least its more fair in there. And more importantly you can choose your own poison

Mismatch = double the wait time = half the fun = less play time = no more the maps you like to play

What is the gain here???

Playing is about fun, isn't it!?

Now less fun probably mean less playing to no more playing
