Let’s Compare Other Games’ Successes to Tanki’s

Ugh, another stupid topic about that ripoff game.  <_<

This ls like comparing apples and oranges.

Fortnite ripped off built off of another game's success, PUBG. Tanki was built from scratch.

Also, why are you comparing a DM kind of game, with Tanki, which is primarily about teamwork and drugging at the right times.

Ok, so tanki isn't the most popular, probably hasn't been either, and probably will never be. However, the fact that there's still quite a bit of players playing this game means that the devs are doing something right.

Games should not be based on how popular they are. They should be based on how successful they are.

Tanki’s matchmaking takes about 3 minutes to join a battle.

Fortnite takes maximum 3 seconds.

If Tanki had the 400M+ active players and 3.4M concurrently playing players Fortnite has, of course the Matchmaking System would take you to a match in less than ten seconds. You can't really compare the two, the differences are just way too big, for example, the development team, funding, player base, advertising etc.

^Well, that would never happen because Tanki is too poor to buy better servers :)

Let’s Compare Other Games’ Successes to Tanki’s

Change this to , let's compare Fortnite's successes to Tanki

"Let's compare the world's most popular game with an old MMO that has a tiny development team."

I'm sure developers are flattered that you're comparing their game to the world's best, but it's honestly rather pointless. I'm not saying that devs' decisions are perfect and shouldn't be criticised, but this comparison doesn't tell us much.

Well, Tetris is by far still doing good after over whole 30 years, still using 2D techonology and never dies.

Oh sorry, are we talking about world's most popular games because I disagree Fortnite is amongst them. As well for the 'best', it's just your opinion and you should state that.

Everything has to move on, and I'm really amazed by the fact the game even survived 9 years and still grinding, not for the fact that even many indie video game companies die by that time, and this one living on only 2 games...

Well, confidence has been build upon experience, but not everything worse should be not considered and everything better taken as bad comparison 'because [that reason]'.

Well, for this comparison, I can only say the guy is comparing two games of kinda different paths.

Yep. From the start developers went on a path of equipment upgrades and purchase of power, so at this point it's far too late to go away from that model. They tried to sell only cosmetic items in Tanki X, but so far this doesn't seem to be bringing them much success. They did introduce more cosmetics in Tanki Online though, and P2W items are more accessible to free players now than they were a few years ago, so in that sense the game is getting better.

The other comparisons are irrelevant. MM waiting time is due to player numbers, youtuber popularity is again due to game popularity (pointless argument), issues with the community are caused by the audience, not developers, while fortnite has 100+ people per server because they have a different game engine, which is probably a lot more expensive than what tanki devs can afford to buy and maintain.

Tanki is an active game, meaning it’s constantly updated and maintained. The devs have been working actively on the game for the past 3 yrs, so it is still a 2017-2018 game.

That's a very wrong statement there. You're comparing something that is old with a concept that is completely new.

It's like me trying to sell my 2006 Ford Focus by telling people that since it is constantly serviced and well-maintained, it is just as good and desirable as the lastest Ford Focus model which was released this year.

Exactly the point I wanted to make.

Tanki online devs aren't trying to create the most popular game. They're trying to create a successful game.

It is possible for a game to have a high popularity for a short while. Maintaining that popularity is impossible because new games will pop out and might be better.

I dont give a Damn if the game is the most popular game of its time, if I don't like it, I ain't playing it.

I have been playing tanki for 4 years now ( on again off again). During the first couple years, I thought I was gonna quit, but I was so drawn to it. Maybe it has to do with how successful the game is.

I did some diggings but no analysis. Feel free to use and comment:

WOT Unofficial stats since the start: You can select different servers - zoom in and out.

We can see a huge spike of new player in the early 2011 and then going down. Aslo more battle start of 2018 when they massively advertised.

91,311 players 23/01/2011

World of Tanks has set a new record with a total of over 1,114,000 gamers playing concurrently on the Russian cluster on January 19, 2014.

Since then I did not find more extraordinary data on attendance, probably numbers are going down.

PUGB & Fartnite
In February, Epic Games said Fortnite had broken the world record with 3.4 million people playing at once. The previous record of 3.3 million simultaneous players was set by PUBG.
According to Bloomberg, PUBG has generated sales of up to $1.3 billion (£980m). While Fortnite is free to download, players can buy cosmetic skins for weapons and characters. Analysts suggest the game generates more than $200m a month.
