The Blue Screen

(This is all fiction, no actual hacks were used in the making of this story :P)

John slammed the door to his room shut. He was angry. Angry at his parents for fighting. It seemed to him that they were always fighting. He flopped down on his bed and sighed to himself "I guess I'll play some Tanki while they cool down." He got up and walked to his computer, and turned it on. After logging in to Tanki he noticed an interesting link in the chat. He thought to himself for a second "Why not, I'm bored anyway..." He clicked it, suddenly he was brought to a blank page and something started downloading onto his computer. It was labeled TankiHack.exe. John thought he had heard somewhere not to trust exe files, but this seemed interesting. He shrugged his shoulders and clicked the box. A pop-up screen appeared with the message. Welcome to TankiHack! In just a few clicks you will be able to hack Tanki! "I know this is against the rules... But maybe just for a little...". He clicked the box "Install", and watched the green downloading bar. Suddenly he heard his mother call up to him "John! It's time for supper!" He replied "I'll be right there mom!" Tanki hacks could wait, he jumped out of his seat and ran down to dinner.

 

After his dinner he walked back to his room, and noticed his computer running. "Oh yeah! The thing was downloading". He sat down and opened up the new shortcut, he opened Tanki and tested the fly hack for a little. He was having some fun when suddenly his computer screen turned blue. It displayed this message in blood red "HAHAHA, SO YOU THOUGHT YOU COULD HACK TANKI AND GET AWAY WITH IT?" John jumped and backed up against his closet door "U-uh..." he stammered. "THIS'LL TEACH YOU" the computer replied. Suddenly his computer screen returned to normal. All John could do for a moment was stand there and stare at his computer. Slowly he crept towards it and looked for the hacking shortcut, but it was nowhere to be found. He slowly moved his mouse to the Chrome icon and clicked it. Everything seemed normal. He opened up Tanki, to his horror, he got a message "YOUR ACCOUNT HAS BEEN BLOCKED FOREVER: REASON: HACKING ATTEMPT BY USE OF 3RD PARTY SOFTWARE." "Oh no... no no no" Not his high General account! Instantly, once again his computer turned blue and another message appeared "SO, HOW DO YOU LIKE THIS?" John put his head in his hands "I'm sorry!" he cried "I didn't mean to..." the computer seemed to laugh at him "THIS IS WHY YOU DON'T HACK, THOUGH THERE IS 1 WAY YOU CAN GET YOUR ACCOUNT BACK..." John read the message and his eyes widened. "How? I'll do anything!" The computer hesitated for a second "HACK THEM YOURSELF, BRING MY CREATORS CAREER TO AN END. STOP OTHERS LIKE YOU FROM GETTING BANNED, I'VE DECIDED TO CHOOSE YOU FOR THIS MISSION." "Hack myself..?" John said out loud. "YES... HACK THEM, AND STOP THEM FROM DESTROYING OTHER TANKERS." John thought to himself for a couple seconds and replied "Well, what have I got to lose?" His computer screen returned to normal, except that now he noticed a new shortcut, "HackerToolX." He quickly looked around to see if anyone was watching and opened it up. Immediately he knew that it was written in a programming language called Python. He had learned some coding with his dad, and Python was one of the things they had learned. He knew that somehow he had to communicate to TankiHack and destroy their server. He typed in some code to attempt a connection, instead, he got a message stating "ENTER PASSWORD." John sat back in his seat, annoyed. "Of course there would be a password, but what could it be?" ​He started entering some, but every time he kept getting the same message "INCORRECT IS PASSWORD." He muttered "I guess they don't know English that well..." Suddenly, an idea popped into his head. He entered in "INCORRECT" and his computer dinged! Smiling to himself he looked at the new information on the screen. But to his dismay, all he got was this message.

He quickly translated it through google translate. His new result was:

Players using hack: 385

Shut down Tanki (4m)

 

"Shut down Tanki? That can't be good" John thought. He had to shut it down, and fast. He quickly tried to kill the server, but instead he got an error message. Now he only had 3 minutes! what could he do? Suddenly he had an idea. He jumped out of his seat and ran down to his kitchen where both his parents were sitting. “DAD! I need you!” he said panting. His father looked at John with a confused expression on his face. “What for? Me and your mother were just talking about our budget…” John replied “Please dad, it’s important!” His father looked at his wife and shrugged his shoulders, he put on his glasses and got up. John grabbed his hand and led him to his room. “Now what seems to be the problem?” His father asked as they hurriedly sat down at John’s computer. “I hacked into this server because my Tanki account had gotten banned and the computer told me that I need to stop his creators from causing anyone else from hacking… Anyways, I need to shut down this server.” His father raised his eyebrows at the screen “Shut down Tanki, 1.5 m..? Wait isn’t that that tank game that you like?” John replied “Uh… Yeah.” His father brought this hands to the keyboard. “Hmm, this appears to be a VPN server meaning that I would have to shut down the encryption…” He typed in a few keywords. “KILL SERVER?” the computer prompted. His father clicked “Yes”. “Now son… Let's have a little chat about how you got into all of this…” They sat down on John’s bed as he explained everything. After it all his father looked over at his son and smiled “I’m glad in the end you came to me, and I hope that you’ve learned your lesson not to press odd looking links.”  He looked over to the computer “How about you show me your little computer friend.” He chucked. John looked up and seen the computer turn that familiar shade of blue and the red text appear. The computer said “YOU COMPLETED YOUR MISSION :). NOW I AM FREE AT LAST. ALSO, HELLO OLDER GENTLEMAN.” John burst out laughing while all his father could do was stare in shock...
