Why I'm no longer going to play tanki online.

Hello. I am a fairly new player to this game and everything that I will post here is just my opinion.

Why do people play games. For fun? Competition? To crush all of those in your way? All three of those are the correct answer. This game offers all of those things that I have mentioned above, but what is it missing? It is missing the ability to be able to thrive without paying out the wallet for a clear advantage in combat like most popular games currently offer. Now I know, "There are many people who are free players and successful..." but when you can only be successful by limiting yourself with things like, "Only play for missions" or "Just play non pro battles" Is the game fun to you?

Supplies: Yes I know I should just play non pro battles but let me explain something first. When you play a game for competition, you will always analyze what you did wrong and how to improve so you don't make that mistake again right? I spawn and get one shot by a magnum or a shaft or a Rail gun. What did I do wrong? Oh you just were unlucky spawning there. OK. I sneak up on someone and shoot then like 6 times with thunder. Why didn't I kill them? They had double armor and I didn't use Double Damage. I shoot a wasp fire bird with smoky three times he uses repair kit after third shot catches up to me and kills me. Why did I lose? Not because of a skill difference, but because of supplies and if the only way to escape that is to play non pro battles, the game's original concept is flawed to begin with.

Kits: Once again yes I know, "Free players can afford kits by saving crystals by only playing for missions and logging off." but the free players aren't the problem. There is absolutely no reason I should be facing things that unlock ranks before I'm supposed to be fighting it. Fighting twins m1 at sergeant ranks? Really? This isn't really that big of an issue for me though.

Micro Upgrades: This. This right here is the cancer of tanki imho. It even triumphs supplies. The ability to increase the stats of your turret and hull sounds nice doesn't it? For a user who wasn't going to spend money not because I couldn't, but because I didn't want to; I could upgrade like once or twice before the prices started to drain my crystals away. But running into 10/10s are not as uncommon as people like to believe. It is very possible at warrant officer 1 to run into 10/10 thunder viking. Basically m2 at warrant officer 1. Once again I ask myself. Why did I lose? "Maybe I didn't knock off his aim as much." "Maybe its rock paper scissors and his turret beats mine." Nope he just micro upgraded his hull so he survived more than he should of. Nope he just dealt more damage than he was supposed to.

In closing. A game that in concept promotes using a mass number of supplies or playing non pro battles which are extremely scarce is not a game that I enjoy playing. I know this seems like I'm crying and complaining which I kinda am but, I just wanted to share my opinion on why I feel as though this game is not enjoyable to play at the moment for a user who wishes to work for the equipment instead of just spending money to get it just to have a chance to play a fair battle instead of lose simply because you didn't repair kit in time or because you didn't micro upgrade enough. That's pretty much all from me.

Only because you aren't using them.

Yes, the game has many imbalances and buyers who know what and when to get what equipments can get ridiculous advantages, like when they buy Keeper or Harvester and MUing it to the max, now Magnums, and soon it will be Drones.

But you also have bought too many M1s, that's why you can't afford MUs or save for an M2 kit. And if you want to play more or want to play with a different set of equipments it would be better for you to have another account.

If you want to quit the game is also good, because the future doesn't look good with Drones, Hull based Overdrives, the expensive Module system, and Mismatchmaking.

Bruh, your k/d is 3.8. Either you are killing everyone despite said imbalances and therefore are not suffering because of them, or you are being the type of person you criticize...or maybe you just have skills, but hardly anyone has skills early on...certainly not me

If you saw my k/d, you also saw the amount of supplies I have used. All my criticisms are from the point of a free player. As for my k/d, I'm a very competitive person so I look up guides before I play anything. It also doesn't hurt using a long range turret like railgun.

On my newest account, I've got Hunter M0/10 with Smoky M1/5 at First Sergeant (37500 XP). I'm about to buy M1/6. That account is 5 weeks old and I've played 21 hours on it, but I've only bought one Hull / Turret and I've won 20000 crystals from Containers.

(Containers are another lottery / imbalance, along with how many crystal earning Daily Missions you get).

Free players (like me) can do well, but they have to put all of their crystals in to one tank. Or several tanks, but a separate account for each one.

I play for fun, and most of the time I have fun. But I often wonder how much success in this game is based on skill instead of luck or earning (or buying) an advantage.

I don't think I'm a great player. I've got good situational awareness and know my way around several maps and know where Supply boxes are, and I can turn my turret and circle strafe and drive off ledges without flipping over, but I haven't mastered rocking or aim deflection.

If I win / dominate a battle (which often surprises me when it happens, especially on this account), it is often because of having a more powerful tank or luck: Smoky's ability to steal kills or a chain of Overdrives from teammates.

Supplies are a much bigger problem for me than MUs or Product Kits. I think they fundamentally alter the gameplay by partially eliminating the need to go looking for Supplies and I'd rather play without them (imagine Mario Kart where everyone had a huge supply of Item Boxes), and that gets harder to do as you rank up.

My preferred way of playing is a "try and do and much damage before you get killed" one that relies on dropped Supplies and well-timed use of Overdrive, and I hate it when the different ways of playing collide, especially when someone uses a Repair Kit and kills me after I've almost killed them.

I sometimes play Supply / drug wars on one account and I like the intensity of them (and sometimes I can't be bothered to do a Daily Mission the hard / drug-free way), but I wish people who want to play the game differently could be segregated in some way (but Drones have added had another layer of complication on that).

(PRO battles isn't it; nobody wants to play PRO battles on most of the maps that are in the non-PRO rotation)

I'm thinking about either quitting or playing less often for time reasons because some recent / pending changes have really bothered me:

  • Drones - just not interested (so much for the KISS principle), and another buyer-advantage that I have to worry about

  • Huge increase in Module prices, with the benefits of the new system being mostly irrelevant for non-buyers / casual players because they were unlikely to buy / upgrade more than three triple Modules anyway (if that).

  • Product Kits with protection from their Turret instead of protections which rarely included their Turret, so now I'm facing Keepers and Savages and Strikers with M1 Smoky Modules.

  • Hull based Overdrives which will nerf Hunter and / or force it in to a defensive role where it has to wait to use Overdrive to un-Overdrive a pack of enemy tanks instead of using (current) Overdrive to go on the offensive and get kill steaks / capture flags / score goals.

The not-Drones ones are really annoying because Striker is now a bargain. Better (pending) Overdrive and a Module that I want. I feel like a mug for investing in Hunter and not buying Modules before the update (and waiting for a sale where I could get the "bargain" of three M1 protections for 45K), and I'm not the only one.

I can live with Matchmaking because of the much better payouts for losing teams, but it needs a lot of work.
