Darn! Connection Closed!

Recommended Posts

Somebody help me! Today I went to about five servers, but every time the lobby page loaded, the connection to the server closed. Is this a problem with my internet connection, computer, or something else? Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any helpful tips or answers are appreciated.

Happens when you don't have enough internet speed or when your provider loses pockets. Try pathping tankionline.com (cmd.exe)

You just need to tape it on the 1st line. Than wait about 100 sec. :). May be you have some other system. You may contact your provider and ask him to improve traffic to tankionline.com.

sorry, i don't understand what this means. pathping is all you have to type?

Agreed with Pin4er163, Also I'd suggest that you clean up those cookies on a regular basis and try not make your PC get fat.

pathping works for me in the first second.

cleaning up cookies does help.

I kind of get the feeling I might not have the same computer system you have. I have a PC. It should be able to do this, in theory...

servers are closing down from time to time!

today i connected to serv.1 and it closed later, then i connected to serv.2, the same thing happened again, while refreshing page i saw serv.1 online, so it was kind of weird because serv.2 was offline. im gonna make a guess here.

admins having some trouble with lags or server running, so they are trying to fix those problems, i just hope that next week the servers will be running much better than for the last weeks :)

ps.if somebodies PC running slower than before do a disk defragment, it will also improve internet loading and stuff. after defragmenting, my pc seems to load webpages much faster, also you wanna try to play tanki near your modem if you, of course, have a laptop like i do :)

I know! I hate it when I get the most points on my team, my future is looking real bright, then there is a lag which lasts so long I just decide to quit.

You are such experienced programmers (sarcasm) ... Thank you very much for your advise. Before that we really did not know how to work! We were such a noobs! (double sarcasm)

Don't teach us how to work.

Can someone please explain to me WHAT IS A PING!?

Ping is a computer network administration utility used to test the reachability of a host on an Internet Protocol (IP) network and to measure the round-trip time for messages sent from the originating host to a destination computer. Ping operates by sending Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) echo request packets to the target host and waiting for an ICMP response. In the process it measures the time from transmission to reception (round-trip time) and records any packet loss. The results of the test are printed in form of a statistical summary of the response packets received, including the minimum, maximum, and the mean round-trip times, and sometimes the standard deviation of the mean.

Ping - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Google rocks! Use it with confidence. ;)

In other words, in this case, you use ping to test if you have a connection/packets loss to TO servers. Of course, this is not always an option as some servers/machines may have ICMP port restricted but this is not the case. If you really want to see if you have any packet loss I recommend you WinMTR from here WinMTR Download page if you are on Win and mtr if you are on linux (depending of the linux distro you may have to install it or not). Download, run, and let the app do it's thing for a while. Remember, only the packet loss at final destination hop are taken into account.

You can also do some packet analysis with a network devices sniffing software like WireShark for Win or tcpdump, ethereal for Unix/Linux, that would really give you an idea about what's happening, but only if you know what you are doing. Otherwise there's no point in loosing time.

Quick side question for anyone who can answer: When one player gets a lag due to internet connectivity problems, do all the other players in the battle get the lag too? What is the cause of lags?

Quick answers:

1. Yes/No/Maybe. (I'm not ironic and it's not about TO strictly)

2. Multiple variables. (Also not ironic)

3. (fictive) Yes, you do seem to have a Google connection issue ;)

Quick side question for anyone who can answer: When one player gets a lag due to internet connectivity problems' date=' do all the other players in the battle get the lag too? What is the cause of lags?[/quote']

In short, no (if other players do not have the same problem with their connections).

Now, when server lags are virtually gone, the most popular are microlags due to packet loss (somewhere on the path between a player and a tanki server). Their symptoms are:

 a) the lagging player sees himself moving smoothly, but other players are twitching for him;

 b) other players see each other normally, but the lagging player is twitching for them.

There is a quick and reliable way to check packet loss on your path to tanki servers: in the command prompt, type ping -n 100 c5.tankionline.com (you can use your favorite server number instead of "5"), wait until it finishes (100 pings), then look at the statistics: normally, there should be 0% loss, 1 or 2 would be satisfactory, more than 3 would lead to uncomfortable gameplay and unreliable connection.

As for "connection closed by server" – if you have this consistently when you log in, you may be blocked and should contact the technical support team. Otherwise, you probably have some kind of connectivity problem. Read this post. Excessive packet loss also may be a cause for this.

A separate message, "connection to server failed", generally indicates that something (probably firewall) blocks outgoing connections to port 5222.
