  • Poem must have at least two strophes, 10 lines.

Me thinks you should

Split this so we could

Understand it more easily,

Complete it more breazily,

And of course that would be good.

Or in clearer English: these are two different requirements, why are they mushed together in one rule? Me thinks it would be clearer to separate them...

What does AABBA mean? First two lines have to start with A, next two with B, and last with A? It's obviously not that but that's the only thing I can think of. Also, I don't even know if I can do this contest. I'm horrible navigating around the Forum and Matilda writes better limericks than me. :/

Good luck to all the hopeful writers out there.

If your chances of winning are small, don't despair.

My chances are slim,

And yet I'm not grim,

'Cause I hope that those people who win will share!

What this is telling you is that lines # 1,2, &5 all have to rhyme, and also lines 3&4 have to rhyme, but the two sets cannot rhyme with each other.

1. This line will establish word A

2. Make of that whatever you MAY

3. But short lines must BE

4. Lines four and THREE

5. Whatever you might wish to SAY.

In that one, I took A and B a little too literally just to point them out. Let's look at an earlier example I posted:

It is clear, I should hope, the intent

Of the missives that Thief and I sent

Simple comments we wrote

So we shouldn't be smote

By any admins who feel discontent.

So here, the words INTENT, SENT, and DISCONTENT all rhyme, and are represented by A in the rhyming scheme.

WROTE and SMOTE rhyme with each other, but not with the other words, so they are B in the scheme.

intent

sent

wrote

smote

discontent.

Now, take out all the spacing and you're left with AABBA.

Can it be longer than 10 lines?

And can we submit more than one entry?

It can be longer than 10 lines.

No, you can not submit more than 1 entry.

Spamming?  Not so! I protest!

I have things to get off of my chest.

The limerick strain

Is quite stuck in my brain.

With my torture, you all now are blessed!

My entry is ready, but I'm worried and incredibly confused about syllable count. First line has 6, second has 5, and tada, we have a rather confused thief.

While a little bit of Googling reveals that there is an ideal syllable count, this isn't haiku. The rhyme scheme and the rhythm are paramount in limericks. You can actually have some fun defying the expected meter, like this example I copied from Wikipedia:

There was a young man from Japan

Whose limericks never would scan.

And when they asked why,

He said "I do try!

But when I get to the last line I try to fit in as many words as I can.

A: thank you so much!

B: don't double post

C: you haven't written anything tankiverse since Miracle, why?

D: Corrected  :P

Erm... now another site claims my first line is 7 syllables, second is 6, third 6, fourth 7, fifth 6. Sixth 8, seventh 9, eighth 7, ninth 5, tenth 11. I'm going to lose sanity surprisingly soon now

Why do I have so many questions? Anyways, "about TO or TX" means about anything TO/TX, like about a specific turret, hull or map, a certain game mechanic like gold boxes and crystals? I mean, can I write a limerick about, say, Smoky, Wasp, Smoky/Wasp, crystals, gold boxes, Juggernaut, updates, the forum, etc?
