Make gold drop begging an offense

Recommended Posts

But what about people begging others to drop golds? I see WAY more of that than asking for admins to drop. As said above, you really underestimate the role of admins in the gold begging problem. Nowadays players mostly ask other players to drop, not admins.

waw really..? all the most common spam in battle chat i see is "admin please gold"

I don't know if it's a case of rank difference, but I can honestly tell you that gold beggars at my rank are not that annoying. At least definitely not to a point where battle chat becomes unusable.

This one is a no-brainer.

The amount of crystals gained from completing a mission increases according to rank.  Weekly mission chain rewards range from 210 crystals for a Private, up through 3,750 for Warrant Officer 4 in the middle of the ranking table, right up to a massive 9,000 crystals for a Legend account.  At Legend rank, the 1,000 reward from catching a gold box is small change, whereas in the middle ranks it goes a heck of a long way to improving a tank.  That's why it's not a problem at Legend but it's a major problem for the middle ranking tankers.  Perhaps if you experience just how much of a problem it can be you wouldn't dismiss it as a major issue in the game so casually.

Declined

Begging for golds is already an offence if the person posts it a lot, since that's just spamming. But moderators have more important violations to addend to, like scammers and racism, while some guy begging for gold boxes doesn't hurt anybody. If someone is begging for golds in chat and it's bothering you, simply add them to the ignore list with just two clicks.

Admins and mods don't actually get gold boxes regularly. The only gold box reward is 10 golds for earning Helper of the Month. Removing that reward will have no effect on the amount of people begging admins for golds, since those people begged even before the gold supply was introduced.

In your second sentence, don't you mean "attend"?

OK, the issue being more serious at lower ranks is probably true - that I can't disagree with. But it doesn't change the fact that officially prohibiting "gold begging" in the game rules will have negligible effect on the overall problem. I mean, it's already prohibited by rules against spamming and begging, but as it's stated here, it's not a major offence.

As my colleague said, admins do not randomly visit battles in order to drop golds so it would be actually beneficial if you'd explain to less experienced players that gold dropping is an automated system and forward them to Wiki page to read about it: https://en.tankiwiki.com/Gold_Box

It's not a major issue in the game. @Maf did say that even in the game rules it's stated that it's only for a warn, if even that. Extensive punishment of players who are simply repeating a phrase they heard somewhere without knowing any better would be too much. The best approach is to educate, like I advised above - if more players understand that gold dropping is simply a mechanism that works in specific manner, the less they'll be chanting "admin pls gold". So help your own cause and start explaining it to them :)

then why haven't you explained it? if what you said works so well why isn't it working?

because that's clearly not working we need a better solution.

Thing is though, some players drop Golds for gold beggars just to be nice. So it makes begging worthwhile to someone that's desperate for Gold drops.

Even so, If this was something that did needing fixing, I'd prefer an automated message to educate gold beggars, rather than them getting a ban. An automated message that is shown when any mention of “Gold” happens in chat would do, like the green text message naughty people get when they get a ban.

It would work like so,

Beggar writes “Goldbox admins pls

..Message doesn't show in chat, instead it shows “Admins don't drop Golds noob

Problem solved. YW.

I always laugh/cry when legends ask for gold....like, youve been playing for 1k hours and you still havent figured out that saying "Admin gold pls" doesnt do anything. It is part of the charm of TO I'd say

Yes, sometimes people write it though they know that it doesn't do anything, and they just do it for fun.

The best approach is to educate, like I advised above - if more players understand that gold dropping is simply a mechanism that works in specific manner, the less they'll be chanting "admin pls gold". So help your own cause and start explaining it to them :)  However, it's a drop in the ocean.  It's Tankin Online's role to do that, having the reach in the form of the forum, v-logs, and potential of the loading screen in terms of temporary informative messages.  Even the left-hand panel is a missed opportunity.

Why do you presume that I don't educate?  I am one tanker in a sea of misinformed tankers.  It's YOUR job to educate, via the forum, the v-log, the newspaper, and temporary pop-ups as each game loads, for maybe a month.  Tanki Online has the reach, I don't.  And you are wrong, in the lower to middle ranks, it is a problem.

On my second monitor I have notepad open with a dozen answers I can paste in.  One of them is:

"Gold drops are random, nothing to do with admin.  It's pointless asking for a drop, there's no-one with their finger on a button pressing it whenever you ask.  They make that clear very clear in the wiki and on the forum."

This is either totally ignored, or receves a follow up along the lines of "And who are you, noob?"  Quite often it's "What's a wiki?"  or "What forum?"

I'm here to play Tanki Online, not spend every single game trying to persuade a handful of misinformed tankers in a 10-minute window of opportunity that there isn't an admin with their finger on a drop button that they somehow have to convince to press.  It would take up at least a third of every game I played, and I'd have half a dozen Isidas burning half a dozen holes in my static rear end.

Silly suggestion, Ostrica, with respect.  This is for Tanki Online to sort, not members of the community.  The buck stops with you.

This.  Without the 'noob'.

Also it shouldn't be too difficult to write a routine that detects identical messages posted in quick succession, triggering a warning or even muting the tanker .  Anything repeated more than twice is spamming.

instead of proposing solutions that are more of a cure than a prevention or ones that clearly aren't working can we get a proper mod to evaluate this idea?

I know that as long as you give a solution you get your crystals, wheteher or not what you provide actually works doesn't bother you cause you get your crystals anyway.

Even so, If this was something that did needing fixing, I'd prefer an automated message to educate gold beggars,

We had those, if you remember, yellow messages that were randomly popping up on the chat with random information about the game and the rules. Unfortunately they went off a year ago and still haven't been reinstated, I guess devs have more important issues to deal with. In the meantime chat mods are posting such information on the chat but no matter how many times we post a specific information (for example, that no one knows when the next sales are going to be and that chat mods don't have such info), there are always going to be someone asking that very question again and again, even a few seconds after we said it on the chat...

Why do you presume that I don't educate?  I am one tanker in a sea of misinformed tankers.  It's YOUR job to educate, via the forum, the v-log, the newspaper, and temporary pop-ups as each game loads, for maybe a month.  Tanki Online has the reach, I don't.

Then congrats to you and the ones like you, since there are a lot of players who are active on the chat every day, helping fellow players with inquiries. And yes, we are also educating for years - on the chat, on Wiki page, Help site, forum... all TO platforms have the info and answers to players' questions. We have done what we can but we cannot force someone to read the information we provided. So the most we can do is to keep pointing out to the info that exists and ask players to spread the news and work as our extended hand, to educate others because as I said, the more people know the proper information, the less problems you're going to have. After all, in knowledge is power :)
