Unable to play the game anymore due to constant very high ping values

 Share

Recommended Posts

I have always played Tanki via some kind of stand-alone player (which just says Tanki Online at the top of the window and then it has the Tanki logo and two buttons; "PLAY" in green and "EXIT" in red in the window. Don't know how to insert image, sorry).

I have been playing this game for a very long time (since 2011 in fact, which is 2 years after it first started). But over the last week, all I am seeing is tanks rotating their turrets and moving in circles. I am guessing this is due to high ping values but I'm not even sure whether it is low FPS causing problems also.

I have defragmented my computer, cleared cache, and have a moderately strong wireless signal from my router. Everything else I use the internet for runs fine. So this suggests there is something wrong with the stand-alone player I am using.

Does anyone know how to make Tanki playable again? Please help me. I love this game and don't want to have to quit playing. I have spent thousands of pounds on it over the years.

Many thanks.

Regards,

I-Z

Try playing tanki on game client or browser.

My client lags too, but for some reason Steam works perfectly. You can also report the issue, although the devs have already heard about it numerous times.

what about flash player?

The stand-alone player I described earlier is a flash player (I think). If not, could you please show me a link that allows tanki to run via a flashplayer? Thank you.

Thanks for your reply, sorry I don't understand the jargon 'game client'. How do I play on game client? Thanks.

If you click on download button on main page of tanki, it will install a client on which you can play tanki.

You can search about Steam on google, it is a platform on which you can play games.

Just downloaded Flash player 26 (the latest), from the link you gave and it is operating even slower than the client I am currently using. Any ideas how to resolve this problem? Thanks all the same.

-_- I switch to plan B.
Use my own hotspot data to play tanki.

If it still have the same problem, its might be the server.

Then i give up and come back later to do my mission or something in tanki :p

On the main tanki page you will see a green downloa button press it and wait for the download to complete

then open it and run it

It is the official tanki Client

it gives the best FPS & Ping , Standalone is also good but entering the battles take too much time

client is faster

Nice suggestion, I have just downloaded and tried it and I'm still getting insane ping readings. In fact that 'official tanki client' that you mention is the same one I have been using all along and have been using for years. It is the same one as the image shown in this thread. But sadly, it just doesn't work (for me) - reasons unknown.

I just don't know what to do anymore, how can something that has worked fine for years suddenly stop working?

You can clear the appdata like this

Hit your windows key + R and you should get a run box up

type %appdata% in it like this

XxWGFx9.png

Look for the folder called Macromedia and delete it.  This will remove all settings for the game.

I use standalone flash player 11.4.402.278

Have you tried removing all your cables to your router and switching it off for a minute?

Are you wireless or hard-wired. If wireless, try connecting with a cable.

Do you have any other software running, downloading/uploading eg torrents

Try shutting down unnecessary processes using Task Manager

Have you tried using speedtest.net for ping and jitter values

Failing that, try a different router if you can.

^ I think the folder to delete %appdata% is TankiOnline, not Macromedia. I've always done that and worked for me. I use client.

It's okay to delete the macromedia folder. It comes back again.

This may also be of use, WinMTR

http://en.tankiforum.com/index.php?showtopic=219442

Also, you can have a look at Resource Monitor in windows. (Windows key + R, Resmon)b3eyBUs.png

This gives me the ip address of the server and any lag.

Then there is thinkbroadband

This continuously checkout your internet and plots it

You need to create a topic with all these, name it 'technical resources' or something like that.

Thank you Zero for taking the time to write a detailed post; it has been so helpful for me to see all the different things that could contribute to the problem of high ping. The problem however is that I have tried all you say.

I pressed windows + r & entered %appdata% in the prompt. Then I located the Macromedia folder and erased it. I then went on to install:

as you suggested from here. But when I went to install the version above, it just says:

sow9hv.png

I tried installing the top (selected) application on that list above and it seems to refuse to let me play with an older client. Did I mistakenly choose to install the wrong one of the 6 programs.

As for switching things back on and off, well, that was the first thing I tried. I even used the yellow ethanet cable to connect to the router, but it did not eliminate the ping. I made sure that not too many applications were upon, too many internet tabs; and applications running in the background,  used the Task Manager to 'end process' on un background processes that aren't that constructive.

I really appreciate your time A-Z, however, I am almost certain there is absolutely nothing wrong with my set-up. The matchbreaker update is causing this (or something related to it). I just find it amazing how these problems (high ping) began as soon as the matchbreaker was released: Here is what I see each battle I (try to) play:

2s8ip9t.png

Perhaps it is time for me to quit then, and sadly, I see a lot of players quitting due to this update, 2 from my own clan [Z0N3] in fact.

There just doesn't seem to be a solution to my problem.

Thank you all (especially AbsoluteZero) for taking the time to share your knowledge and help me try to reduce the ping.

Best regards,

I-Z

Did I mistakenly choose to install the wrong one of the 6 programs.

This is the one I play with. It's the SA version (standalone)

0bjWqc5.png

When you run it, it looks like this

DWFBNX8.png

You then have to put the game address in File > Open > Location, like this

R3c12It.png

http://tankionline.com/AlternativaLoader.swf?config=c1.tankionline.com/config.xml&resources=s.tankionline.com&lang=en&locale=en (copy link location if abbreviated)

Once the address is in, it stays there.

Somebody made a helpful youtube video, here.

So after what you have wrote, I'm not sure this will solve your issue but I'm also sure that it's not due to MatchMaking. There are lags in the game but I'm not reading many complaints lately of high pings.

Have you tried to see if the problem is there just after server restart? It should be even quieter then and you could eliminate server load.

I had a similar issue a little while back and I too posted looking for suggestions and didn't really get any answers. It was WinMtr that made me talk to my internet provider. It seemed to me that there was a couple of issues for my situation.

One issue was I was getting loss just to my router. Here is what it looks like now.

DU4FfQ8.png

Ideally, it should have 0% loss and during my problem it was sporadic, especially during peak times.

Another issue was I was experiencing loss in certain parts of the route. It helped to have a friend who also used my ISP and I could see their tracert results to see the route they were using. I expected them to use a similar route but they took a different path and had no problems.

Eventually, I asked my ISP to come out and look at my connection. I had screenshots of various tests and while he couldn't find anything wrong with it, I convinced him to change the router, and in turn, that gave me another IP address which strangely also changed the internet route to tanki's servers. The main problem I had disappeared and I went back to some normality.

You could eliminate your internet/computer if you have access to another pc/laptop.

Have you changed anything lately, eg anti-virus software. These things have a habit of blocking things you don't want them to block. I've never tried this suggestion but try starting your pc in safe-mode, (might have to google how to do that), then running the game and see what your pings are then. The graphics might be a bit messed up in safe-mode but you'll be able to see your ping has improved any. If it does then it's probably software related.

Perhaps it is time for me to quit then, and sadly, I see a lot of players quitting due to this update, 2 from my own clan [Z0N3] in fact.

There are lots not playing now. My clan went down to 3 regular players so I had to disband it because I didn't want to be in a clan where players, due to the constant updates and changes, have lost the will to play regularly anymore.

It's not just us, I maintain a list of 500+ players for the druggers topic. My script filters out anyone who hasn't played for 10 days or more so they don't make the topic spoilers. I'm not talking about banned players either.  This list is getting bigger and bigger every day.

Hope you get to the bottom of your problem and I'll be glad to test things with you if you like.

AZ
