Massacre Strategy Discussion

Warning weird topic:

Lemme tell y'all a little story... so basically I was playing TO while my gf was chatting her "too-good-for-me-rich-white-girl" friends. Normally, I don't try to look like a dork who plays TO in front of my gf, however, I was in a pretty terrible mood because she forced me to take her to her friend's party, so I wanted to play some TO and wreck some noobs (or get wrecked by twins and magnums) and ignore her for a while because I was definitely not in the mood. She, who was trying to get something going between her and I, saw that I was playing TO and made a bet saying that if I won my deathmatch, she would let me go to second base with her. This may sound a little strange, however, I was not in the mood for that stuff, and when I jumped into the DM, I was 3 minutes late in the battle and the battle was in...

MASSACRE DM.

Great! I tried to lose on purpose. But, I tried to look like I was trying my hardest. I decided to try playing freeze in Massacre against legends. I would have lost, l could have lost, I should have lost. But then this happened:

i won...

So, yeah, the story goes on, but to cut it short, the end.

Massacre is the most hated MMS map to play in, by far. Everyone hates it. Everyone hates it because it is extremely hard for the average Joe to play in... zero cover except for the hills and craters, impossible to aim and drive well due to terrain, camper central, etc... How do you guys go about playing in Massacre?

It would actually be extremely helpful if everyone shared their expertise, or simply their strategy even if they are not good at playing in Massacre.

Advice for all game modes would be helpful.

The hills actually can provide decent cover. Oh, wait DM? I can't say anything. But in team battles, remember to use the hills as cover. Use the terrain to your advantage. (And kill the campers)

I don't even dislike Massacre (can you believe it?!) but I miss the old one. You know, the one with inverted flags.

Great idea for a discussion topic that's #1,

I loved old Massacre so this one s a double disappointment. The sightlines are too long. It might not be so bad if the four corners were pits instead of mounds.  Those four corners just dominate the map. That's whre I go with my Shaft account.

If you are not a long range hull you have stay screened from sight at long as possible. Little scraps of cover sometimes make all the difference.  It is often betetr to go around a ridge mid height at its end instead of cresting over the ridgeline itself.

For smoky it is one of two main concepts.  Either hug the terrain unil you are vclose enough to make a mad dash to the enemy rear. Once there it is trench warfare to dig out the campers. OR ThHis is one of the maps I use the slower shoooting exta damage Sm,oky alteration.  Then I popshot from more of a distance.

For Sriker his is a long range turret so you either counter-battery fire tehir campers across the mpa or you maneuver to a vantage point for closer shots.  It is a strong map for Striker.

Isida? Hug the terrain and help you like pretty much anywhere.

Wasp Vulcan is ofteh in a tough spot. Vulcan is great for long range exchanges but wasp  vulcan on that map = easy flip overs. And like any light hul you are shaft fodder.

I actually quite like massacre if there is a supportive team. Flag steals with 2 Isidas behind you are exiting. Another thing I've done is to wait for a teammate to attack solo and use their distraction to suddenly attack fast with Wasp.

Good combos for Massacre:

DM- Viking/Hunter Ricochet

Other modes- Titan/Mammoth Shaft

Ricochet is very useful in Massacre because I sometimes hit an enemy with a shot bounced from ground which is not so common in other maps.

When I am feeling lazy I equip Viking isida, and heal teammates with double damage while staying under cover myself as much as possible. I also use Railgun, Hammer, Twins, and smoky with relevant tactics.

I LOVE Massacre (both new and old)!

Strategy (new map): I usually don't go for the flag right away. I need to see the "aggressiveness level" of the other team first. Rail can pretty much control the far corners from a few "flat spots" on the map that is near cover. The majority of attention is looking to see if there is movement towards the flag. What I like to do is outflank, pillage, then spawn-kill. Two or more of us doing that will make it easy for a teammate to capture the flag.

massacre is a decent team map - especially for Vulcan - the 50% "weak damage" is awesome and surprising to enemies at other end.

Even striker works well here - equip heavy hull for CTF, or medium for CP.

DM though... meh.

But then again, I'm not a big fan of overcrowded DM battles where you are lucky to survive 15 seconds...

Great responses from above, how about the best protection modules for this map?

I would assume Shaft, Railgun are necessary? Any thoughts?

Yes, shaft and railgun are common, and so are Vulcans.....sometimes .-.

I usually sit in the base with Shaft and Mammoth and stick that... thing trough the hole on one of the concrete barriers. I tried it with Viking but I couldn't see anything because its profile is too low. Mammoth is the ideal choice. Much of the action is inches in front of you when your base has been breached but you will be safe most of the time because of the concrete. You can hide your laser on the concrete itself and aim when an enemy pops up way back on the other edge of the map.

The view in this position is pretty good. You can keep watch on a couple of hills and a large portion of the enemy base.

This is in CTF, I hate DM and never play them.

Oh and never bring Striker in Massacre.

One of the few maps I will use Striker on.  Very little swarming happens and I find Striker not effective at all when swarmed.

Heh. No Striker? :)

Why not?

Low height is the point of Viking and Hornet. It makes them great with short range guns like Freeze, Fire, Isida and Twins.

You can also shoot through these holes with Hunter or Titan. I use Titan Shaft in Massacre.

I don't think you have to necessarily be "good" at Massacre. I think all you have to do is be "better" than everyone else at what you are doing, because quite frankly, I played Massacre a lot trying to fulfill my 1500 point CTF mission, and it appears to me that everyone is pretty bad at it, except for the shafts.

That's true, to everyone's taste ofcourse but I struggle to aim on rough terrain especially that crater filled wasteland.

I can't manage single shots there... if it ain't the Railers, it's the invisible obstacles that ram my Viking around out of nowhere.

Massacre is where I use salvo the most but lock on is too slow most of the time.

Desert on the other hand, with its flat ground, is Striker heaven. This is where I train my single shots and have no trouble to lead targets.

Perhaps someone could give me some tips on how to use Striker in Massacre that'd be great.

For CTF I play defense in a heavy hull - allows for salvos. Then if my team is beating back enemy I move up. Control of map important.

CP... probably medium hull better if you want to cap & kill.
