Ability to block specific players from being in your battles

Recommended Posts

People are always frustrated with mults and hackers and people who harass people on chat. Problem is that right now, the only true solution is to get that person banned (which only works about 5% of the time).

Instead of banning mults, players should have the ability to "Block" certain users from being matched in the same battle. For example, if there is a guy named sensei_mult and he mults a lot and he is hurting my team, I can click on his username and block (sort of like the upcoming report feature) him, resulting in the MMS to prevent me being matched with sensei_mult until I decide to remove him from my Block List (which will probably be located next to the Friends list). Or, if there's a hacker named sensei_hacker, I could Block him too to prevent him from battling with me ever again.

This is very different from Report, which only can be activated with a certain number of reports. Blocking a player simply prevents any interaction in battles with you and the specified player. This does not prevent blocked players from queuing with you in chat. For chat, just use the ignore function if you want to block them there.

Eventually, mults and hackers will find out that they can't find any battles left and the only battles they can find is battles with other mults and hackers.

Meanwhile, players who don't do bad things can have nice battles where no one is multing/hacking.

Unlike the report function, this cannot be abused at all. If you do try blocking everyone you see, good luck finding a battle :P

After reading some feedback, I decided to add a rule where you can only block at most 50 players at a given moment. Therefore, you cannot use this to your advantage.

Valid

Only if there's a limit on how many people you can block. Otherwise you could just block every single person you ever encounter (just to break the system, I guess) and that would make their experience worse, since they won't be able to join your battles, as well as battles of anyone else who blocked them, and that would result in longer waiting times.

True, but I believe that this scenario couldn't happen because the player who is going around blocking for no reason would find him/herself unable to find a battle, so really, they are just wasting their time even more. But knowing how many trolls and mults there are in the game, it would make sense to create a block limit.

I've had this idea for a long time, I would love to see it be added, it would be very useful. Totally agree with you. I love this idea, please implement it devs!

You could block everyone higher ranked than you and dominate battles...

Have fun finding a battle... :P

Anyways, I updated my first post and decided that the maximum amount of people you can block at one time is 50.

I have a way to improve the suggestion; Instead of pressing on a player's nickname and press "block", there would be a special form to block players from joining with/against you. In the form, you should provide info about why you want to block player X and then, a Moderator will review the request he will decide if your reason is valid.

Interesting suggestion. However, I believe that this idea isn't as effective because there are tons of mults and battle mods can't spend time checking to see each one of the mults and then give you permission to block the person. It should be instant, and I already feel like this feature cannot be abused in any way effectively. Maybe, battle mods can always check block lists and be able to weed out hackers when they have time.

I've had this idea 3 years ago too and would have liked it to be implemented back then. When you see the Ignore button as an individual ban (you don't see chat of him/her), you can see this as an individual block. I think a pretty big game had something like this implemented (dunno which one exactly, could've been WoT or OW) but they removed it after a while, because it was focusing too much on negative aspects of the game as far as I remember. It also seems that people expect it to solve things, where general solutions (those for the whole community and not on individual basis) are better, like penalizing saboteurs/cheaters or providing a proper game balance.

I think it's very unlikely that this will be implemented, as it would give constraints to the matching in the MMS.
